OBJECTIVES AND ACTIv￿IEs
Obje¢tive$ and aims
At Ahava Community, our vision is to provide support for people in our community who have become homeless,
been released frorn prison, have addiciion problems, or been through relationship breakups. We provide a place of
refuge for thern, to assist them with guidance and to help get them back on track with their lives.
Ahova Community is a collective of individuals. local churches and businesses who are united by a shared vision for
our ¢ommunity'. "To see all forms of hornelessness made history., We believe that with big faith, innovative strate&y
and open-handed partnerships we can make a huge difference to the lives of those who need it most.
Strategie Aims
l. To provide temporary shelter, assessment and general advice to people who are homeless and rough sleeping-
with further on-going support provided to prevent future difficulties when they have been permanently housed.
2. To prevent rough sle¢pinE and homelessness by engaging in the care and rehabilitation of people who are affected
directly and indiitctly by alcohol I substance misuse and gamblin& and to promote their physical, psychologica],
emotional and spiritual health.
Treatment options may include referral to local services and residential s¢rvi¢¢s plus providing information to
alcoholics, drug users, gamblers and iheir families.
Ahava Community provides the following actlvities:
Catalyst Night Shelter
The Catalyst Night Shelter located in Romford Town Centre, provides= 12 single rooms for our homeless guests.
showers. cooking facilities and breakfast. Each guest is given support and advice in order to get them prepared to be
re-housed and access to properties to rent.
ThrAve CommuDity HousiDg
Thrive Community Housing supports those with medium-level supporr needs. The aim is to develop th¢ more
general gap in life skills and disrupted self-esteem to remove the primary obstacle to securing Accommodation and
accessing employment or training. We helped facilitate independent living in managed properties with goal-orient¢d
support packages and a¢cess to skills trainin& volunteer opportunities and social activities.
Transformation Progr*mmt
Ahava Communhty has a strong desire to build on the success of the work we did alongside men in recovery from
drugs and alcohol in Havering prior to the pandemi¢. We remain in ¢onts¢t with many of the people who came
through our programme. Our aiTll in th¢ fuluie is to provide three residential settings for our Transfom)ations
programme across the UK. As we hive expanded our social enterprise. we have become increasing aware that there
is an extreme lack of provision frorn whi¢h people can discover new pathways and journeys in their lives. We
continue to explore 211 options of renting suitable properties from which to do this from.

AHAVA COMMUNITY LTD
REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES
for the Year EDded 29 Marcb 2024
Between April 2023 and March 2024, Ahava Community were able to provide 51 men and women. each a single
bedroom in our night shelter. Each night 12 guests had access to cooking facilities, showers 0￿d washing machines.
They were then helped in the day to access benefits, health appointments and to find a￿0Mmodation. We worked
with a network of landlords who pArticularly specialised in providing ac¢ommodation that would accept housing
benefit and would need a guarantor. In addition, our volunteer run Hope Cafe also provided a sign-posting service to
the street homeless plu5 a free meal and place to feel safe. Some of night shelter guests volunteered in the cafe and
gained experience and Food Safety qualifications.
Our Thrive Housing has provided support for 13 people. This has included two families with new born babies who
were receiving our services and were not supported by the council. Both families were eventually assisted by the
local authorities but it took between 6-9 months for that to be affoTded. Our focu5 in our a¢¢ommodation has been
enabling people who have been through our night shelter to get back to work and hav¢ affordable rent.
Our Social Enterprise ¢ontinues to provide full time work as store managers, drivers and driving Lssistants from
previously homeless community. The income generated from the Social Enterpi'ise enables us to continue to support
our homeless pi'ovision. We were very encouraged io see people tran51tion from volunteer5 to employees and then
onto further employment outside of the charity. People have volunteered with all soits of differing abilities and
needs including those with autism andlor learning difficulties. rnental health diffi¢ulties' those in re¢overy from
addiclion and people who would otherwise be isolated.
The social enterprise is based on a pop-up model and so the length of tenure for the shops is aiways unC￿taIn. We
therefore took the opportunity to expand to Rhyl in North Wales and Tolworth. There have been concerns about the
profitability of sO￿e of the shops due to their positioning and a¢¢ess to donations and a review will take pla￿ to
ensure that each lo¢ation is able io bring A sufficient contribution to the charity. However, we were consistently able
to provid¢ work experience and confidence building to vulnerable groups and recycling with each expressing their
help to the homeless including.. signpostin& free clothing and furniture as well as food and ww'm drinks.
Our partnership with Pulse, a local church, enabled their Youth Worker and Pastor to base themselves at Hope Cafe
and outreach to groups of young people with poor school attendance. They also rnanaged a youth project in the
evenbng which would have up to 70 young people attending. We are aware that this has had a significant influence
on the youth who were stsxting to engage in crime both drug and gang related. Our aim in enabling this was to
pi'event youth homelessness in the future.
In conclusion. Ahava Cc>mmunity has continued to provide shelter. housing, employment and volunteer
opportunities to the homeless. We have continued to explore social enterpi'ise in different locations and some have
been more successful than othe15 which we will constantly review.
Future Objectives and Aims
AhAva Community continues to have dreams and aspirations for the future and plans for 2024-25 to improve our
service5 to pr¢v¢nt homelessness and provid¢ assistance to people in Havering and beyond by..
l. Providing emergency accommodation and help with pemianenl accommodation to those at risk of rough sleeping
through our Catalyst Night shelter.
2. Continuing to support those in our Thrive Community to remain and return to work.
3. R¢viewing and developing oui. So¢ial Enterprise t4¢ross the country.
4. Assisting in providing youth piovision foy young people at risk of homelessness and addiction.
5. Continuation of our TTansfortnation Programme funding pemitting.
