Shoreharn Baptlst Church Annual Report 2023-24
I start this, my last Annual Report, at the close of our year. As 2024 opened up I gave notice
to the Fellowship that I would be taking early retirement and my last Sunday as Pastor of
the Church would be on March 31st. Easter Sunday.
After much council and prayer, I came to the conclusion that my ministry had run its God
intended course and it was time to step down and for the Church to find a successor.
This report therefore gives me one more opportunity to express what a privilege and
honour it has been to work with my Eldership, all the Deacons who did their service at
various times and of course the whole fellowship. Through thick and thin, the saddest of
times and all the joys, I think we have together faithfully ser4ed the Lord with gladness.
Twenty-three and a half years is a good shiftl Well done Church and once again, thank you.
Our year began as it often did with Easter upon us. Back-to-back we had Maundy Thursday,
Good Friday, The Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday and of course Easter Sunday, that great
celebration of the resurrection of Jesus from the dead that confirms to us that as Jesus was
raised to new life, so shall we - Hallelujahl
Church life has its seasons and its day-to-day existence. Ours had been much the same.
Home Groups continue on. A few changes here and there but the core of the Groups are
virtually the core of the Church, plus some. Faithfully led and faithfully attended they serve
one another in building up the Church in their most holy faith.
People come and people go, and some go home to be with the Lord. We shed our tears
again at the loss of David Allen. Eve desilva, John Skinner and Amanda Reed.
Terry Tulley left the fellowship to attend Emmanuel Shoreham. Additions to the Church,. we
welcomed Juley Edwards into Church membership along with Dawn Bond, Dougie Bullen,
Rueben Henwood, John and Allson Podesta, and Jason Braiden, all through the waters of
baptism.
Alison, John and Jason came to this point in their walk with Jesus after attending Alpha
which started in early January 2024. With new faces and team members it was probably
one of the best Alpha courses we had experienced. Following on from the previous year a
prayer covered Alpha event was vibrant with chat and excitement. Fed well as usual by
Hilary's catering team.

Back in the Autumn of 2023 our Harvest Lunch was well received and with the ministry of
Messengers Choir and Singwell along with Men Only and the Ladies Ministry we touched
base with people, got to know them and encouraged them to come along. It's often a long
haul with people but these are the seed sowing tirnes and you have to sow before you can
reap. The Harvest Thank Offering this year was over £4,000 a rich blessing for those who
received it.
It was good to see Chris Le88ett return to the UK along With the rest of the Team from
Bosnia. Always good to have Zeljko with us and a rich blessing to have Tea,, Magdalena and
Isabella too. It was good also to have our long-term Missionary, Jill Hitchcock coming back
for a short Vlsit.
Early in March 24 it was good that Cindy and I took the opportunity to fly out to Bosnia
ourselves and encourage the Church there. I spoke at their two main services twice then
made a recording for their mobile church. This was a seven-minute version of the sermon
preached in the service. Something I would imagine you would have liked to have had in
previous years at SBC!
A lot of travelling, a lot of talking and a lot of ministry, but a good vislt.
One other mlnlstry that keeps on serving is our CaP Debt Centre. It was good to hear of folk
coming out of or being relieved of their debt burden through this highly valuable ministry, A
rlch blessing also to have the Area Managerfs Day at Shoreham too. Something that was
much appreciated by all who attended. Prayer is essential for this ministry and
encouragement to Denise and her team equally essential as it continues to help those
desperate for some support and relief.
In October of 23 we were able, after my marriage to Cindy Love and the subsequent
vacating of the Church's Manse. to lease the Manse out. This had obviously a good effect
on our finances. These will continue until the new Pastorfs housing needs are known.
Easter came around again and it marked the end of our financial year. All the usual servlces
and our Easter Egg Hunt with all the trimmings took place. Easter Sunday marked new
beginnings for those baptised, and a new beginning for myself. As I preached my last
sermon I felt the peace of God. For sure I didn't hear a well done good ondfaithful servant
and that's because I'm not home yet. But as I close this annual report, I can say to you, well
done Church, good and faithful friends. You have seen me through the worst of times and
see me blessed again. Thank you.
Ray, former Pastor of the Church
