Where UET Began
Uplands Enterprise Trust IUETI is a Swindon based charity that helps young people with additional needs to
help thèmsèlvés. UET is12d by a knowledgeable Board of voluntary Trustees and run by enthusiastic, skilled,
and creative staff. The Trust is an innovative charity which is CDnstantly developing, expanding and actively
working lo improve the outcomes of young people 8nd adults IYP&AI with additional needs, within Swindon and
the surrounding areas.
This unique charitable trust was set up in 2012 in response lo the need for m&aningfLJI opportunities lor young

extremely hard in partnership with their child's school lo prepare them for a purposeful life contributing lo their
local community.
UET was created to ensure that this aspiration, to be valued by and contribute to the local community, was
realised for these young people, r￿ardlesS of the b2rriers caused by their additional needs, as there were very
few post edu¢8tion opportuniti@s available to them in the local area.
UET is now a thriving charity supportirig over a 100 young people to lead active, fulfilled lives, enabling them lo

Auditors. re$ponsibilitie$ for the audlt of thè financial statements
Our objectives are to obtain reasonable a5sur8n¢e about whether the financial statements as a whole are free
from material misstatement, whether due lo fraud or error, and lo issue an Auditors, report that inclL5de5 our
opinion. Reasonable assurance is a high level of assurance, bul is not a guai¥nl&e that an audit conducted in
accordance with ISAS IUKI will always dele¢t a material misstatement when il exists. Misstatèments can arise
from fraud or error and are considered material il, Individually or in the aggregate, they could reasonably be
expected to influence the economi¢ decisions of users taken on the basis of these financial slalements.
Irregularities, including fraud, are instances of non-compliance with laws and regulations. We design procedures
in line with our responsibilities, outlined above, lo delect material misstalemenls in respect of iirtrgularities,
inclLJding fraud. The extent tD which our procedures are capable of detecting irregularities, including fraud is
detsiled below".
We have considered..
the nature of the charity and sector, control environment and operating performance,.
the chariws own assesstnent. includino assessments made by key management, of the risks that
irregularities may ocGur either as a rèsult of fraud or error.,
any matters we identified having reviewed the charity's policies and procedures relating to..
identifying, evaluating and corllplying with laws and regulations and whether they were aware ol any
instances of non-compliance.,
detecting and responding to the risks of fraLJd and whether they have knowledge of any a¢ttJal, suspected or
alleged fraud,. and
the internal controls established lo miligale risks of fraud Dr non-compliance with law5 and regulations-,
the matters discussed amongst the audit engagement team.
As a result of these procedures, we considered the opportunities and incentive5 that may exist within the
organisalion for fraud and identified the greatest potential for fraLJd in the areas in which fnanagement is required
to exercise significant judgement, such as the disclosure of adjusting items. In common with all audits under
ISAS IUKI, we are also reqLJired lo perform specific procedures lo respond to the risk of management override.
We also obtsined.an understanding of the legal and regulatory framewDrk that the charity operates in focusing
on provisions of tho'se laws and regulations that had a direct effect on the determination of material amounts and
disclosures in the financial statements. The key laws and regulations we ¢onsid8red in this context were the
Companies Act. Charities Act and tax legislatlDn.
Because of the inherent limitations of an audit, there is a risk that we will not delecl 211 irregularities, including
those leading to a material misstatement in the financial statements or non-compliance with regulation. This risk
increases the tnore that GotnplianGe with a law or regulation is removed from the events and transactions
reflected in the financial slalemenls, as we will be less likely to become aware of instances of non-mmpliance.
The risk is also greater regarding irregularities occurring due lo fraud rather than error, as fraud involves
inlenlion81 ¢oncealment, forgery, collusion, omission or misrepresenlalion.
A further description of our responsibilities lor the audit of the financial slalements is located on the Financial
Rèporting Council's website al.. www.frc.or
