1. Introduction
As Chair of the Board of Trustees, I am pleased to present this end-of-year report for The Butterfly Rooms. 2024 has been a year of stability, growth, and continued commitment to providing high-quality early years education and care. We have worked to create a nurturing, inclusive, and stimulating environment where every child can thrive and develop a love for learning in their vital early years.
⸻
2. Charitable Objectives
The Butterfly Rooms is a registered charity and preschool nursery provision. Our core charitable aims in 2024 were:
• To provide a safe, welcoming, and stimulating learning environment for children aged 3months- 5 years.
• To promote the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of each child.
- To support children's readiness for school through a playbased, child-led curriculum.
• To work in partnership with parents, carers, and the wider community.
• To ensure inclusive access for families, regardless of background or circumstance.
⸻
3. Governance and Structure
The Board of Trustees met regularly throughout the year, ensuring good governance, strategic direction, and compliance with legal and regulatory responsibilities. Our safeguarding, early years, and data protection policies were reviewed and updated in line with Ofsted and Charity Commission guidelines.
We continued to monitor and support the nursery's operational leadership, ensuring that the setting maintained high-quality standards and met the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework.
⸻
4. Activities and Impact
Throughout 2024, The Butterfly Rooms provided consistent, nurturing early years education with a strong emphasis on child development and wellbeing. Key highlights include:
• Daily Nursery Provision: Delivered high-quality care and early education including funded places for eligible 2, 3 and 4-yearolds.
• EYFS Curriculum: Delivered a rich, play-based curriculum in line with the EYFS, with regular observations and individual learning journeys for each child.
• Inclusive Practice: Successfully supported children with additional needs and ensured inclusive access for families facing economic or social barriers.
• Parent Engagement: Use of Iconnect for regular progress updates to strengthen home-nursery partnerships. • Community Connection: Continued close links with local primary schools, health visitors, and family support services to support transitions and family wellbeing.
We received positive feedback from families and external partners, with children demonstrating strong progress in their communication, confidence, and early learning.
⸻
5. Ofsted and Quality Assurance
We maintained a strong focus on continuous quality improvement. Staff received ongoing professional development, and our internal observations and audits informed practice improvements.
