ORGANISATION AND STRUCTURE
Mango Tree Goa
Mango Tree Goa is a charitable trust registered with the Charity Commission, number 1148049. It was founded on 9[th] June 2012. The objects of the Charity as set out in the Governing Document are:-
The relief of poverty and sickness, the preservation of health, the advancement of the education of disadvantaged children and young people up to the age of 25 in India, primarily but not exclusively in the state of Goa, by providing grants, items and services to individuals in need and/or charities or other organisations with the same objects.
From the very start, the Charity operated without paid staff or an office and continues to do so. It is administered on an entirely voluntary basis by the Trustees. We are also fortunate that our accounts are maintained and drawn up on a voluntary basis and that our website is developed and maintained by a volunteer. The contribution of volunteers means that more of donors’ money is available to fund projects on the ground in Goa.
We understand that the best way to deliver our objectives in Goa is through Indian Trusts made up of local people who understand cultural values, religious sensitivities, and official requirements better than we ever can. Consequently, we work with partner organisations. During 2024/25 our partners continued to be The Mango Tree Trust and the Grace Educational Trust. The UK charity and the Goan Trusts are separate legal bodies, and each must work to the legal requirements of their country. However, in practical terms, we work as one to achieve our shared objectives.
SUMMARY OF THE MAIN ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT IN RELATION TO OUR OBJECTIVES
In planning our activities for the year, we kept in mind the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit at our Trustee meetings. During 2024/25 the Charity continued to meet its objectives by supporting the following projects:-

The Mango Tree House project based at Duler, Mapusa. The projects work together to help children living in slums and other poor-quality accommodation to navigate their way out of the cycle of poverty. The projects provide a registered pre-primary school and afternoon tuition classes. These activities help disadvantaged children access and remain in school thereby discouraging child labour and empowering children to break free from a life of poverty. Whilst the support given focuses heavily on education, a daily meal, medical care, and fun activities are also provided.

The Chimbel project which is based in Indira Nagar, Chimbel - a slum of around 10,000 inhabitants. The project provides a pre-primary school and afternoon tuition classes which help disadvantaged children access and remain in schools.
SUMMARY OF THE MAIN ACHIEVEMENTS DURING THE YEAR
Our main achievements continue to revolve around the provision of activities which help disadvantaged children stay fit and healthy and to access and remain in school. Working with our partners we achieved the following:-
- Funding of the Mango Tree House project which supported over 300 disadvantaged children daily through the provision of pre-primary schooling, afternoon tuition classes, outside tuition classes, meals, support with health care, extra curriculum activities and a counselling and support service.

Funding of the rent, afternoon tuition classes, pre-primary teachers, play resources and extra curriculum activities which enables the Chimbel project to provide pre-primary schooling and afternoon tuition classes for around 120 disadvantaged children.

Funding the provision of books, stationery, school bags and uniforms for all the children at Mango Tree House. These help to ensure that children can take an active part in lessons and have greater self-esteem at school.

Funding the college and university fees for young people at Mango Tree House to enable them to continue their studies leading to better qualifications and better job opportunities.

Funding the provision of a dedicated social worker to support both parents and children with many challenging situations which make studying difficult.

Providing financial support for older children to go for outside tuition classes which ensured they got more tailored support with subjects they were finding difficult.

Providing initial funding which made it possible to secure new superior premises for the Chimbel project and to begin works to convert them into a suitable and safe educational establishment. Ultimately, not only will children have improved indoor facilities with space to enable children to benefit, particularly in the form of learning through play, but the new premises have a large yard which for the first time will enable children to play outdoors which will bring many benefits in their development.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
Income of £100,354 was higher than the previous year (£89,992) which mainly reflects an increase in donations of £11,228. This is mainly accounted for by two large one off donations and a more successful Christmas Challenge. Other sources of income continued to include Gift Aid, Grants and Fundraising. The unexpected increase in income is greatly appreciated, particularly as the number of overseas visitors to Goa continues to remain low compared to pre-pandemic years and visitors to our projects consequently remain low as a result. The lack of visitors together with cost of living difficulties faced by many supporters remains challenging and concerning.
In the same period expenditure totalled £96,819 of which £94,152 related to Grants and Charitable Activities in Goa. Expenditure was around £11,306 more than the previous year and largely reflects the fact that income was higher than the previous year.
The Charity had £21,592 in hand on 31[st] March, 2025.
RESERVES POLICY
As in previous years, Trustees reviewed the Charity’s reserves at the year end. The Charity has an approved Reserves policy as follows:-
Mango Tree Goa requires reserves to protect against fluctuating income, falling exchange rates, contingencies, to start up new projects pending identifying income streams and to achieve its objective of ensuring its major projects in Goa have their own permanent accommodation.
As the Charity had £21,592 in unrestricted reserves at the end of the year; the level is considered justifiable in the circumstances.

PUBLIC BENEFIT STATEMENT
The trustees confirm that they have complied with their duty to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit published by the Commission in exercising their powers and duties.
FUTURE PLANS
After thirteen years our objectives remain unchanged. We will therefore continue to focus our efforts on raising the funds to ensure that the good work conducted at both Mango Tree House and Chimbel can continue unhindered as they inevitably expand each academic year and salaries and other prices continue to rise.
During early 2025 we were made aware that an opportunity had arisen for the Chimbel project to relocate into much improved premises. Such an opportunity is rare, and we committed to assisting in ensuring that the new premises are adapted so that they were safe and suitable for children and to endeavouring to seek funding to enable the project to expand and have some security in the medium term.
