Trustees 2023 Report for
MSOPC AGM 4[TH] MARCH 2024
Held at
THE EVANGELICAL CHURCH LINDFIELD.
Before I wrote this report, I looked back at last year’s report which I presented to the Committee for the year ending 2022.
My goodness what a period of time it has been, which only history will reflect on, and know the true ` effect of that period in history had on all our lives. Little were we to know that whilst we celebrated the late Queens Platinum Jubilee in June 2022. We would be celebrating the Kings Coronation in 2023.
As if we had not all had enough to cope with through the Pandemic. We were all hit with a crisis in late 2022 early 2023 of huge increases in the cost of living, and especially fuel. I cannot ever remember a time when costs soared the way they did.
As always, it was the Voluntary Sector, and local Town and Parish Councils that first came to the aid of local people. Yes, Government was generous in giving people extra funding, especially to older and vulnerable people to help with the fuel bills. But as everything else soared in price, and people started to suffer the effects of price increases. It was, Local organisations, who looked after local people. The generosity of some shone through, just as it had in the Pandemic. MSOPC rose to the challenge in a truly practical way and with some financial help, we launched our Project. ‘ Step into the Warmth with MSOPC’
The first three coldest months of the year. From early January 2023 to late March 2023, we held warm lunches in Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath, and East Grinstead. We ended the Project with a very lively Afternoon Tea at Ashenground Community Hall in Haywards Heath.
IN all we HELD 17 MSOPC events Across Mid Sussex in 2023 and attended many others across the region, such as MSVA Networking events, Carers Day at Burgess Hill Girls School, always a good event, Lindfield Village Day, and Haywards Heath Town Day, also some on- line events. (Which I am afraid I do not like) Val and I gave presentations to various groups. And so, it went on.
We challenged the closure of Clair Hall and wrote testimonials, to support keeping it open. And many more, far too many to list. But enough to say a lot goes on in the background. Like all good shows the success is in the planning.
On a personal issue you will all now know that I am stepping down at this AGM.
I would just like to say a few things to everyone. Please remember FIRST AND FOREMOST that we are a MID SUSSEX ORGANISATION.
Do not neglect the older people of those towns and villages across Mid Sussex. Reach out to them. Keep up essential contacts, such as local Councillors and organisations that have helped us over the past twenty years. MSOPC has built up through hard work and tenacity, a very respectful and trusted reputation. Try and make sure we have representation from all the three main towns. Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill and East Grinstead.
Pursue the help and support, and advise MSOPC supporters on what is available in the way of help and support from local authorities and other voluntary groups. As it can make a huge difference to their lives.
My thanks to everyone here and past, and those who for whatever reason are unable to attend.
A Big, thank you to everyone I have come into contact with, for the help and support that I have received over the past twenty years. Which has been phenomenal. I could not have done what I have without that help and support. But as in any team, everyone has a part to play. I have met some wonderful people in my role as Chair.
I wish everyone every success as we move forward.
