Spirit of Freedom amateur boxing club is affiliated through AIBA/ENGLAND BOXING-Yorkshire region.

Organisational Structure

Spirit of freedom is partnered with the community and surrounding areas who undertake in recreational boxing classes. In association with the local Primary School, Spirit of Freedom delivers an enrichment programme to disengaged children.

All trustees give their time voluntary and receive no remuneration or other benefits.

Summary of main achievements

The junior boxing class is growing month by month with lots of new members attending classes. The club now has 10 fully carded amateur boxers who go out and represent Spirit of Freedom.

In terms of growth in numbers the club has seen the number of female participant’s increase which is credit to the volunteers as boxing is mainly a male orientated sport. Our recreational group is doing very well with members of the community being taught the skills of boxing whilst maintaining a fit and healthier life choice. The partnership with Doncaster Rugby League is ongoing.

Financial Review

Our main source of funding this year has been fundraising and fees from junior and community participants. We rely on the local community and volunteers to help raise funds with activities such as bag packing, sponsored walks and donations from local businesses.

General improvements throughout the gym have been completed to meet the needs of our growing club.

A great contribution is made by member volunteers. We are grateful for the many hours volunteers have spent coaching our junior classes. Fundraising has also allowed for more volunteers to attend training courses on coaching, thus meeting the demands of our junior classes.

Objectives and activities

Our objective is to promote the sport of boxing in a safe controlled environment. Our aims are to increase the knowledge and skills that boxing as a sport can offer to both male and female participants. The benefits of the programme are seeing the self-confidence, social skills and fitness improve. We welcome all members of the community regardless of personal background, faith or gender. The Spirit of Freedom Programme enriches everyone through sharing the skills of boxing.
