Section D
Achievements and performance
The charity has continued lo support the health and wellbeing of the
people of the Madina district.
The children's feeding centre remains the 'flagship' of the charity and this
continues to be very successful in Irealing children wrth malnourishment.
Referrals continue to come from the OLrtreach clinics and other health
units in the area. Many referrals are by word of mouth and via information
from the radio. Help Madina has also now produced a Posler for the
Govt. Health Units lo enable these referrals. The Charity is entering into
negotiations lo purchase the feeding centre on behalf of the diocese.
The charity continues to send a paid TB outreach worker from the
feeding centre. This is lo follow up children wrth malnutrition and TB in
their villages after discharge. to ensure that they are continuing with their
treatment pathway.
The outreach clinic$ continue twi￿ a week. Approximately 36 villages
are visited in rolalion. The main priority is health education and
screening.
The eye clinic continues weekty in Madina. There is no other eye clinic in
the area and so the clinic is a vital resource for the population. The
charity continues lo screen patients for cataracts and those that are
suitable are offered corrective surgery at the Kambia Government
Hospital. Approximately 50 patients have had cataract operations in the
last year.
A new hernia project started in 2022. Farmers are often unable to work
because they have large hernias. Helpmadina pays for hernia repairs as
funds allow. These are undertaken al a local government hospital.
The charty continue$ to support a ￿gister of approximalely 90 elderly
vulnerable people in Madina. They are given assistance with clothing,
provision of rice and healthcare.
The charity continues the repair of water wells in Madina and surrounding
villages (as funds allow). This has given people fresh clean water and
slopped the use of drinking polluted stream water. This ye8r 13 wells in
the area were rehabililaled.
The charty conts'nues to build Ventilation Improved Pit Latrines for
householders in Madina. A total of 225 have now been completed.
Helpmadina has successfulty converted the old Church into an after-
school sludylresource centre for secondary school children. These
children have no textbooks and no light in their homes to enable them to
study. The centre provides both these missing elements.
There is continuing support for the development of diabetes services in
the Holy Spirf( Hospital in Makeni. There is now a fully operation81 clinic
in the hosprtal. The charity helps lo Supp￿ insulin, oral medication,
equipment, and tesling slrips as well as provi(Je clinical expertise. The
number of patients is growing year on year and so a second nurse has
been employed through funds from Help Madina. Help Madina has now
fomied a 'partnership' with 2 Charities called Life for a Child (Australia)
and Insulin for Life {USAI and they are now supplying all our insulin.
The charity continues with rts link wrth the London School of Hygiene and
Tropical Medicine.

Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of Help Madina

I report on the accounts for the year ended 31[st] March 2024 on pages 1 to 2.

## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under Section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is required.

It is my responsibility to:

- examine the accounts under Section 145 of the Charities Act

- to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission (under Section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act); and

- to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

## **Basis of the independent examiner's report**

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statements below.

## **Independent examiner's qualified statement**

In connection with my examination, no material matter has come to my attention:

- (1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect,

- the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or

- the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charity (accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

From the accounting records I have seen, the accounting records were not kept in accordance with Section 130 of the Charities Act. For the purposes of these accounts, reliance has been placed on the representations received from the Trustees of the Charity.

I have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
