Just Whippets Rescue

Trustees Report

Financial Year Ending 30 April 2023

The Trustees present their annual report together with the audited financial statements of Just Whippets Rescue (the charity) for the year ended 30 April 2023. The Trustees confirm that the annual report and financial statements of the charity comply with the current statutory requirements, the requirements of the charity’s governing document and the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) ‘Accounting and Reporting by Charities’ issued in March 2005.

Objects of the Charity

The charity’s main purpose is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home whippets and whippet looking dogs, that have either been neglected or requiring a new home.

To achieve these aims the charity uses the following arrangements:-

The charity will also provide assistance to dogs that require long term medical treatment and even to those who are not re-homed by the charity. This is reviewed on a case by case basis and at the Trustees discretion.

The charity’s website provides the general public with details on how to adopt or re-home a whippet.

Public Benefit

Trustees have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit when reviewing the charity’s aims and objectives. All of these aims are undertaken to further the objectives for the public benefit.

Achievement and Performance

The charity’s does not receive any external funding so relies on receiving donations to operate. Although, the main source of income comes from the selling of whippet related merchandise.

With the reduction in the number of dogs the charity has re-homed this financial year this has been reflected in the amount spent on Veterinary fees.

Financial Review

The charity reports a surplus of £8,943 for the year (2022 loss of £19,312).

At the end of the financial year 2023 the charity’s received income of £44,411 compared to £22,927 at the end of 2022.

This was offset by expenditure within 2023 of £35,468 compared to £42,239 at the end of 2022. The main area of the expenditure was veterinary fees £15,584 followed by Merchandise Purchases £5,656.

Merchandise sales continue to be a significant source of income, although the charity is aware that these streams of income are dependent on the generosity of the public and the hard work of Just Whippet Rescue’s many volunteers.

Structure, Governance and Management

The charity is controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust, and constitutes an unincorporated charity. The trustees have a duty to identify and review the risks to which the charity is exposed and to ensure appropriate controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error.

Reserve Policy

The trustees aim to ensure that the charity has a reserve of at least six months of expenditure.
