## **About us**

Kol Bonaich is running its 23rd year of outstanding service to young people in the UK.

We help kids in pain and teens at risk by providing free food and companionship in a warm and friendly environment on a weekly basis. Our aim is to empower the neediest and poor children and young people in a safe community space – helping them gain the confidence and selfworth needed to get back on their feet. We specifically target NEET young people who have behavioural issues and may have been kicked out of school. The centre is open seven days a week and offers much more than hot food and drinks; we provide IT and employment workshops, job guidance, work opportunities, advice on housing and benefits as well as accommodation solutions for homeless and vulnerable people. We also offer enriching activities, trips and holiday programs including one-to-one mentoring, coaching, skills training and telephone support in times of crisis. There is a perception that NEET young people are outcast and as a result are alienated from our communities. Our aim is to bridge the gap, where NEETs will become positive contributing members of society & who we can finally be proud of who they are, helping them fulfil their potential and address issues in the earliest possible stage.

**At Kol Bonaich we give every heartbroken soul another chance in life. At Kol Bonaich nobody is left behind. At Kol Bonaich No tear will be ignored.**

Kol Bonaich is here to ensure that no lost souls need to face their troubles alone. We are there for them always, providing for them, supporting them, guiding them and most of all encouraging them on their journey while making it possible.

Kol Bonaich makes their difficult past a history and paves their way for a new, positive and brighter future. So their dreams become a reality and life becomes good. So they know they have a tremendous impact and a strong power within and are ready to forge ahead despite their difficult circumstances.

## Philip’s Story

“When our son Philip’s alcohol addiction got out of hand and spiraled out of control, there seemed to be no way for him to emerge and succeed. No hope in sight.

Then some community members got in touch with the organisation Kol Bonaich. They were a true life-saver in every respect. They got Philip the necessary referrals, help, support and practical care. Not only did they support Philip, they also took our whole family under their wing. They guided us and showered us with their exceptional care and support, making this tough time for Philip and the whole family a somewhat more bearable ordeal.”

## Richard’s Story

I felt worthless. Alone. I was depressed and bitter. I was in a dark tunnel that had no light at the end, I was going under, further and further, drifting away … I was on the streets, no home, no family, no care. And when things got so out of hand and the situation became too hard for me to bear, suicidal thoughts filled my mind. Despair. Gloom. A life of failure. Why carry on?

Then something happened; a slow painful journey of healing began. Kol Bonaich picked me up and told me they care. That was the message I needed to hear. Their true concern and love were evident every step of the way. The calls they made to check up on me, their help with renewing ties with my estranged family, the endless opportunities they gave me, allowing me to spend time with other struggling young adults. I felt their hug every step of the way.

## **Feedback**

## Saving generations every day.

Since its start Kol Bonaich has supported and encountered 3000 teenagers. In the last few years itself 700 teenagers have benefited from our services. And over the years Kol Bonaich has helped over 1000 families with the average family being 8 people. The following case study, illustrates how our services directly impacts the people we support and saves their futures. . Josh was at the bottom of the pit but with the help of Kol Bonaich Josh is today a valued and an esteemed member of the local community and wider society. He holds down a very successful job as a sports trainer, earning a substantial living, thus supporting his wife and 2 kids. He also now volunteers at Kol Bonaich in his spare time, which we greatly encourage, giving our users the chance to give back to those who gave them so much. This is unbelievably inspiring to those he supports.

## **Independent examiner's report to the trustees of Kol Bonaich**

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of Kol Bonaich (the Trust) for the year ended 30 September 2021.

## **Responsibilities and basis of report**

As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act').

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

## **Independent examiner's statement**

Since your charity's gross income exceeded £250,000 your examiner must be a member of a listed body. I can confirm that I am qualified to undertake the examination because I am a registered member of Institute of Chartered Accountants which is one of the listed bodies.

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Act; or

2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## **NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 SEPTEMBER 2021**

## **1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES**

## **Basis of preparing the financial statements**

The financial statements of the charity, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)', Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Charities Act 2011. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.

## **Critical accounting judgements and key sources of estimation uncertainty**

The preparation of the financial statements requires management to make judgements, estimates and assumptions that affect the amounts reported. These estimates and judgements are continually reviewed and are based on experience and other factors, including expectations of future events that are believed to be reasonable under the circumstances.

## **Income**

All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.

## **Expenditure**

Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.

## **Tangible fixed assets**

Depreciation is provided at the following annual rates in order to write off each asset over its estimated useful life.

Fixtures and fittings - 15% on reducing balance

## **Taxation**

The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities.

## **Fund accounting**

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.

Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.

## **Hire purchase and leasing commitments**

Rentals paid under operating leases are charged to the Statement of Financial Activities on a straight line basis over the period of the lease.

## **Going concern**

There are no material uncertainties about the charity's ability to continue.
