The trustees present their report and the financial statements for the year ended 30 September 2025.
## **Objectives and Activities**
## **Aims and Objectives**
Aims and Objectives
The aim is to promote community involvement in healthy recreation throughout Sandwell and the West Midlands by providing opportunities for training and competition in swimming, water polo, and other aquatic disciplines governed by Swim England. This includes involvement in activities overseen by the British Triathlon Federation.
## **Significant Activities**
During the year, the club maintained its provision of swimming, water polo training and triathlon coaching.
The trustees confirm that all club activities comply with the governing document and align with the charity's aims and strategy.
The financial year began on 1 October 2024, by 30 September 2025, membership had reached a remarkable 440 members— comprising 65 volunteers/coaches, 151 Club Train, and 227 Club Compete members.
## **Swimming**
Sandwell Aquatics hosted four successful open meets, including a joint event with Stourbridge Swimming Club.
The club participated in several swimming leagues: Nuneaton Junior League, Arena League, Mercian League, Swimgainz League, and Worcester Winter League. These provide a significant number of swimmers with competitive opportunities. Mini Meets were launched to encourage first-time competitors from the Club, Sandwell Leisure Centre, and West Bromwich Leisure Centre, serving as a pathway from learn-to-swim programs into the Club.
Growing the Club remains challenging due to our inability to teach learning to swim. This means recruiting swimmers at an optimal age and ability to compete in the junior competitions remains very challenging. Efforts continue with Sandwell Leisure Trust to try and overcome these difficulties.
Congratulations to all swimmers who represented the club admirably across these leagues.
At the 2026 Worcester County Championships, Sandwell saw more finalists than in 2025 and ranked third overall based on total medals won. Although medal counts were slightly lower than last year’s top finish, the club has established itself as a leading force in the county over the past three years.
In the County relays, Sandwell secured second place overall and for the masters team, and took home the trophy for top female competitors.
Meets attended include:
- Coventry L2 Winter Qualifier: 8 swimmers, 4 qualified for Winter Nationals
- Stourbridge Open and Derby Excel Open meets, November-December 2025
- Masters National Championships: 12 medals (3 gold, 4 silver, 5 bronze), 20 Masters Club Records broken
- Winter Regionals 2025: 25 qualifiers, 6 medals
- County Championships 2026: 82 qualifiers, 99 medals (36 gold, 28 silver, 35 bronze)
- British NextGen Champs: 2 qualifiers
- Summer Regionals 2026: 35 qualifiers (including dual club), 13 medals, 14 more final swims than the previous year
- Open Water Regionals: 10 swimmers, 7 home entrants, 6 medals in 1km-3km events
- Summer Nationals: 9 home qualifiers (two more than the previous year), scheduled for July-August, including open water events
- 3 DiSE Applications submitted
Participation in open meets is vital for swimmers to achieve qualifying times for higher-level competitions, and it is encouraging to see increased attendance and numbers of qualifiers.
## **Water Polo**
Summer regionals matched the previous year’s medal tally, with 14 additional finals achieved.
Nine home swimmers will attend this summer's National Events, including the British Championships and Open Water Championships, while four dual club members have also qualified.
March marked the start of the Midland Water Polo League season, with two Senior Men’s teams and a mixed Youth (U16) team participating. The season concluded in October, with Sandwell A finishing second in Division 1, Sandwell B taking second in Division 2, and the Youth team finishing in a tie for first in their division. A play-off against Solihull determined the League Champion, with Sandwell scoring 9 to Solihull’s 12.

## **Significant Activities - continued**
Water polo continues to grow, offering established training sessions for men, women, and juniors. Sandwell competes in the Midland Water Polo League with:
- Senior Men A
- Senior Men B
- Women
- Junior Men (U18)
- Youth (U16 boys, U17 girls)
Results for 2025:
- Senior Men A: 2nd in Division 1
- Senior Men B: 2nd in Division 2
- Youth: 2nd
- Junior Men: 3rd
- Women: 4th
Filippos Psychogios is part of the U19 England Talent Squad. Terri Halstead served as team manager for the GB Senior Men’s team at the World Cup in Malta in March 2026. Several junior players represented the West Midlands Region in Inter-Regional tournaments.
Sandwell Aquatics partners with other regional clubs in the City of Birmingham National Conference League. Talented junior athletes compete in National Age Group competitions if Sandwell cannot field a full team.
Emily Pyper now plays in the GB Senior Women’s squad.
## **Triathlon**
The Triathlon section continues to expand and is working closely with British Triathlon to try and grow the sport. A very successful Aquathlon was held in July at Sandwell Valley Park.
Courses completed:
- Two senior players recently qualified as Water Polo Coaches (one Level 1, one Level 2)
- 5 Swimming Coach
- 4 Assistant Water Polo Coach
- 1 Assistant Swimming Coach
- 24 DBS checks
- 17 Safeguarding in Aquatics
- 3 J1 Judges
- 1 J2 Judge
- 1 J2 Judge & Starter
## **FUTURE PLANS**
The Club seeks to develop soft skills in young members to help them excel in school and the workplace, using swimming, water polo, and triathlon as vehicles for growth.
Plans include expanding aquatic sports provision within the local community, strengthening ties with schools, and aiming to host a Junior School swimming gala.
A new four-year vision focuses on further development at all levels to establish Sandwell Aquatics as a leading Community and Performance Club.
Other goals include continuing effective communication with parents via social media and the website, maintaining partnerships with Sandwell Leisure Trust and the Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council, recruiting and training officials and volunteer team managers, running two swim camps during 2026 (one for water polo, one overseas for swimming), and enhancing coaching and volunteering through access to training.

The charity operates under its governing document, dated February 2022, a deed of trust, and functions as an unincorporated charity.
## **Club Structure**
At the AGM on 13 July 2025, the club adopted a revised structure—a Management Committee with subcommittees oversees daily operations, supervised by the Trustees.

## **Statement of Trustees' Responsibilities**
The trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees' Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).
The law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the charity for that period. In preparing the financial statements the trustees are required to:
- select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;
- observe the methods and principles in the Charity SORP;
- make judgments and accounting estimates that are reasonable and prudent; and
- prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in business.
The trustees are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at anytime the financial position of the charity and to enable them to ensure that the accounts comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 and the provisions of the trust deed. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities. The trustees are responsible for the maintenance and integrity of the corporate and financial information included on the charity's website. Legislation in the United Kingdom governing the preparation and dissemination of financial statements may differ from legislation in other jurisdictions.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Sandwell Aquatics Club (the Trust) for the year ended 30 September 2025.
## **Responsibilities and Basis of Report**
As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
## **Independent Examiner's Statement**
Since the Trust’s gross income exceeded £250,000 your examiner must be a member of a body listed in section 145 of the 2011 Act. I confirm that I am qualified to undertake the examination because I am a member of The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, which is one of the listed bodies.
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:
1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Act; or 2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or
3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and contents of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fair view' which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## **1. General Information**
Sandwell Aquatics Club is an unincorporated charity registered with the Charity Commission, registered charity number 1147581 . The principal address is 18 Streetly Lane, Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, B74 4TT.
## **2. Accounting Policies**
## **2.1. Basis of Preparation of Financial Statements**
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) "Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)", Financial Reporting Standard 102 "The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland" and the Charities Act 2011.
The charity is a Public Benefit Entity as defined by FRS 102.
## **2.2. Incoming Resources**
All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.
## **2.3. Resources Expended**
Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.
## **2.4. Stocks and Work in Progress**
Stocks and work in progress are valued at the lower of cost and net realisable value after making due allowance for obsolete and slow-moving stocks.
Cost is determined using the first-in, first-out method. Cost includes all direct costs and an appropriate proportion of fixed and variable overheads.
Work in progress is reflected in the accounts on a contract by contract basis by recording turnover and related costs as contract activity progresses.
At the end of each reporting period stocks are assessed for impairment. If an item of stock is impaired, the identified stock is reduced to its selling price less costs to complete and sell and an impairment charge is recognised in the statement of financial activities. Where a reversal of the impairment is required the impairment charge is reversed, up to the original impairment loss, and is recognised as a credit in the statement of financial activities.
## **2.5. Cash and Cash Equivalents**
Cash and cash equivalents are basic financial assets and include cash in hand and deposits held at call with banks, other short-term highly liquid investments that mature in no more than three months from the date of acquisition and are readily convertible to a known amount of cash with insignificant risk of change in value, and bank overdrafts.

The value of voluntary help received is not included in the accounts but is described in the trustees' annual report.
