The Trust Fund of The Holy Trinity Armenian Church Annual Report for 2021 calendar year

History

The Armenian Church of the Holy Trinity was opened on Easter Sunday 1870 by the relatively small but prosperous Armenian community in Manchester. The church is thought to be the first purpose built Armenian Church in Western Europe. A trust was set up in 1909 to hold the title to land and buildings and a separate trust was set up in 1920 to hold and manage financial assets. The trusts merged in 2000 and brought up to date with current charity law.

Purpose of the Trust Fund

The purpose of the Trust Fund as currently constituted is to:

Activities in 2021

The church trust income is mainly generated from the investment managed by CCLA and car park rental. The investment income was £33K in 2021 (£35K in 2020) and income from the car park rental was £8K in 2021 (£8K in 2020). The received income supports 70% of the operating costs of the church.

The total operating cost was £29K in 2021 against £32K in 2020. The reduced costs in 2021 is due to reduced church activities (COVID pandemic related) in 2021. The main costs are utility and council tax costs (£7K), deacon’s salary (£10K), church building insurance (£5K).

There is £3K spending in 2021 for the “Armenian church 150[th] Anniversary” project which is financed by the government grant.

The trust bank balance is £38K as of 31 December 2021.

Divine worship

The public church services were held in 2021.
