Objects and a¢tlvltles of the charity
The purposes of the Charity.
Ocular Melanorna UK Is the only UK charty Solely dedicated to supporting people affected by ocular
melanoma. We have been helping people Sin￿ 2011 wth this rare cancer so they could talk to others about
their cancer diagnosis and adjust to life il they experien￿ vision Ioss.
We are detemiined to drive improvements so people can live well wth ocular melanoma. This can be a
devastating c8ncer so we are working to ensure people have access to effective treatments and that clear
pathways a￿ in place, all while striving to provide specialist support to people who need it.
What 1$ otutar melanoma?
Ocular melanoma is a can￿r of the eye.
We know approximately 750 people In the UK will hear they have ocular melanoma each year and those
people are likely to need support.
We know we have hundreds ol people in the UK liwng with ocular rnelanoma who may need support
adju5tsng to life after th81r diagnosis.
- We also know one In every hvo people will hear they need ffUrt￿r treatment if the cancer sp￿ad$
We know that no one should face this terrifying tirne alone.
Ocular melanoma includes fv40 Cancers. uveal and conjunctival melanorna. Uveal melanorna include5 th8
ir15, choroid or ciliary body. Both types of ocular melanoma can metastasise {sp￿a￿l to other organs, with
the liver typically involved in 90°/o ol uveal melanorna cases.
If ocular melanoma spreads to another organ, it is currently in¢urable. Some treatments extend life
expectancy and irnprove th8 quality of life for some pat18nts, but patient5 can face difficulties accessing these
treatments.
Ocular melanoma Is usually discov8r8d dunng a routine eye examination. or when the patient experiences
symptoms and goes to their GP or optometrist. If the optometrist or GP suspects rancer. they should
urgently refer the patient to their local ophthalrnology departrnent. should they agree with the Con￿rn, they
11 refer to one ol four specialist centres". Glasgow, Liverpool, Sheffield or London.

People with ocular melanoma Can feel very ally￿. The condition is 50 ra￿ and the prognosis often 50
overwhelming. that patients frequently report feeling Isolated. Ocular Melanoma UK came about to provide
both support and a voice for those with this rare cancer. We bring people together across the cguntry and
provide UK-specific information.
Ocular Melanorna patients afe often excluded from skin rnelanoma trials. so te5earch is limrted. Treatments
ara progressing. but many people face bamers to ￿Cel￿n9 treatments
Ocular Melanorna UK is iaising the d15ea5e profile within the medical community and decision-makers. We
work lo improve pat￿nts, access to effective treatments. and eventually financially support research.

Ocular Melanorna UK'S charitable objectives are.
1. To primarily promote and protect the physical and rnental heatth of people with o¢ular melanoma and their
families in the Unrted Kingdorn through support. information, education and practical advicè.
2. To support research into ocular melanoma and to publish the useful results.
The main activities undertaken during the year to further the charity s purpose for
the public benefit.
Ocular Melanoma UK provides members and oth8rs wth current infomation and non-dinical advice and
support through various channels.
People tell us they wish they learnt about U5 when they %%tre first diagnosed as ihey appreciate the
infomiatson and support we provide. This means a great deal to them. so we have planned several projects
to increase our reach so that On￿ someone is diagnosed. they learn about Ocular Melanorna UK. thè
seM¢es we prowde, and that we can encourage treatment pathways to be developed to ease the pressures
people face.
During the year, we supported our community by offering thè folltswing sèrwces.
To Improve Support
Emotional & Practical Support
We recruited a dedica18d Helpline Adwsor who Is supporting MO￿ people through our helpline and manages
our online community support groups whi¢h are open to anyone affected by this cancer. These weekly
meetings provide a safe place foi p80ple to give and receive support wrth any difficulties they f8ce.
Psychological Support
Coniinued to provide members wth timely 8 fvnded professional support with a specialist Health
Psychologist to ease the impact this diagnosis can have. This allows patients and loved ones throughout the
UK to a¢￿$$ up to six fund8d sessions.
Health Inform8tlgn
We gained pif-tick Jccredilation so our health infomiation ￿5 easily recognised as a trusted source of
information anij reviewed by ¢linicians to ensure It Is clinically accurate and written in conjunction with
patients so it contains Inforrnation that they would find useful.
Our first booklet Is now available on our website for people btrith metsstatic disease and we will be 18unching
the next booklets about the condition and receiving treatment for the primary tumour 5horUy.
Community Support
As mentioned above, we run regular online session5 for people to come together to remove isolation and
facilitate peer-t&peer support. We h8V8 also Increased the number of local ambassadors so that people can
meet other mèmbèrs throughout the UK in person.

Confeienct
We held a two-day conference which was very well attended by patients and family members. W$ had
record number of people who hadn't attended 8 conference before and for some, it was the first time they
rnet others wth the same condition. which is a huge help in ilsell.
We also had some of the leading eXP8rts in their field share their knO￿edge wth us. Every year, we ensure
these talks art recorded and available after the event so the latest kno￿edge is easily shared.
W8bsit8
We have launched a new webS￿le which now meets 8¢￿SSIbl11ty criteria, www.omuk.org. We have launched
this in ph858s so that all cancer-related information adhere5 to pif-tick quality health information standards
and have now begun work on building a ￿soUl￿ for people to find details of the clinical trials they could be
eligiNe for and we are building an area for clini¢ian$ to find information 8asily.
Ocular Melanom8 October
In October 2024. we launched Ocular M81anoma October, a month-long campaign to raise awareness about
oculai melanoma and provide support to those affectecl by thi$ rare cancer. The campaign featured
educational content. comrnunity events. and culrninated In the fit5t Ocular ￿lan0ma Day on 10 October,
marking the charity's 15th anniversary. 11 resulted in a fourfold In¢￿ase In our social rnedia reach and
connected individuals nationwde through In-person meeting5. Th15 success laid the foundatson for an
expanded awareness Initiativo next year, with fun¢Jing already secured. Ocular Melanoma October will now
become an annual tradition to amplify our impact and ensure no one faces ocular mèlanom8 alona.
We produce a regular bullehn for our members giving update5 on our work, how to access the services
provide, and importandy, Infofmatson on how people can share their experience with us or de¢ision-m8kers to
drive improvements.
Advocacy
This has been a 18198 part of our work as NICE felt a new drug shou¢d not be made available. We
Suc￿$$fullY appealed this decision and it was recently announced that this new treatment. Tebentsfusp wll
be 8vailable to p8opl8 on the NHS. We continued to Invtslve our community at every stage by running focus
groups and we worked closely with patients so they coukl attend the meetings and explain to th8
committee what it W85 like to live wth this Condition. One of our members share(I her experien￿ of taking
the nèw drug through the clinical trial and this insight was incredibly useful for the committee.
Ra￿ Cornmunity
Ocular Melanoma UK is a member of Cancer52 anLI Genets"c Alliance and regularly attends NHS England
Cancer Charity meetings so key messages can be communicated to our community. but also allow5 US to
Communicate the needs of people affected by ocu18r Melanom8 to decision-makers. Our CEO also work5
with Melanotna Patient Network for Europe and usemydala and sits on various projects to improve the lives
of people wth this cancer.

Clinical Advisory Panel
We have continued to work wth our dinical ad¥ASOry panel to ga￿n their thoughts on how to resolve are8S
that are Important to patients and to ensure the inforrnation we provide 15 clinically accurate.
Resèarch applications
We supported several research applications that we fèlt would benefit people and met wth oryanisations
interested in 18aming about the irnpact of this caTh￿r. Al times it was appropriate for us to lead those
conversations. but where Companies were interested in talking to patients dirady. we reviewed the questions
that would be asked and offered our sUPPOrt to the people Involved.
Data
We hav8 worked to improve the data routinely available to re$earcher5 and bodies such as NICE & SMC and
wll confynue to push for belter data Collection and sharing of data 50 that the need5 of pat￿ntS are deady
understood.
A¢￿$$ to Medicines
We continued to build relationships with pharmaceutical companies who have an interest in this cancer to
increase the number of trials available to people and to inC￿aSe the possibility of effective treatments being
made availab￿ to people.
We Su￿esSfullY appealed a decision by NICE to not rèeommènd a nèw drug and ara very pleased that
patients can now le￿1ve this treatTnenl on the NHS.
We continue to encourage NHS England to allow chem058t to be funded and have supported patsents whilè
they appeal to private medical cornpani85 to have their decisions overturned.
Patient Need
We have expanded oui reach so that more organisation$ understand that the needs of rare can￿r patients
are not being met Mrith the Current focus on improvin9 rnortality In the UK. We do this through working with
orqanisations that share common ooals and enable us to have a voice at a national level.
All this was achieved with the support of our donofs and everyone who fundraised for us. We are InC￿￿1b1Y
grateful to everyone for their 8fforts over this challenging year as it enabled us to continue our work and
support people through some very difficutt times.

Govèrning Doeumènt
The organisation is a ¢harilable company limited by guarantee, incorporated on 30 March 2012
andregi5tsred as a charity on 30 May 2012. The company wa5 established under a Memorandum ol
Assotsation which established the objects and powers of the charitable company and is governed under its
Articles of Association.
Management Commlttee
Our CEO was a twstee of the charrty up until 31103r23 and this was approved by the Charity Comrnis5ion.
All other Trustees gave and continue lo give their time voluntanly and received no benefits from the charity.
Any exp8n5e5 reclaimed from the charity a￿ set out in note 8 to the accounts. Trustees serve for up to three
years and may be re-elected at the Annual General Meeting.The Board of Directors. together with the CEO,
acts as the Man8gement C(xnmrtteè.
