The Foundation was first established in the USA in 2010 by siblings wtho h)st their mother. aged 53, to
stage IV HPV-relaled anal cancer. Fnjstrated by the limrted therapeutic and o)mmunity 5UPPOrt available to
her, they created the organisation ¢0 f11 Ihe vo*Y ￿USed by sC8nt public, sry8nbfic and rnedical ftus on thi8
di5ea$& and its eause, the human papillomavirus IHPVI. HPV rauses anal cancor and at least rive other
cancèrs, amounting to 5% 01 cancers work1￿7d&. Thèsè canc•rs are prèvèntab￿. In 2012, the or9anizalion
expanded to the UK wilh 2013 as ils fI￿l full operabonal year.

some point In their lives. HPV affects both men aThJ women an¢J is ffjswnsiblè for 5Y¢ of tha wor*J's cancer
burden. HPV causes cancers of the anus. cervix, h&id and neck, penis, vagina, and vulva.
Protedion against HPV through universal HPV VaMna￿On is a critical publK health goal. With HPV identified
as a cause of six different types of ￿ncer. and 5% of canc2r cases worldwide. il is imperabve Ihat we prolect
th$ $ntire popul8tw againsl it. The most effective mWh(Kl to redu￿ can¢*rs related (o HPV is to pr9vent
inits"81 infaction ol the virus through immunisatKJ). Thè F(MJnda*"on achievas this imwrtant airn through its
efforts to advan￿ equal access to HPV protection for bolh boys and girfs through gender-neLrtral vaccination
against the virus. Al Ihe inlrcmjuction of Ihe vaccine in most o)untries. only girls were able to receive this
life-saving intervention while boys were generally exclud&J. The Foundabon uealed and led the co8litions in
the US and UK to ensure all chiklren have equal a(uss to protection ag8inst these c3ncgrs. The US
ach18V8d th8 rn1185tone of recotnm8nding HPV protection to al thikJr8n in 2011. Following the FoLJndation's
five-year advocacy campaign in the UK, schcN)l-based HPV vacanat￿n for boys began in September 2019.
Our focus is on securing Ihe same protection for trN)ys as well as girtg acfOSS Europe, and beyond.
While we work io prevent luture cases. it 15 also fvndamenlal that SC￿ntifiC and medical disparities are
address￿1 for the tx)pulation that will (x)ntinue to be dIagr￿￿d wilh HPV-related Gqncers like anal rancer.
Treatment options have barely progressed since the 19705 and rninirnal research has been undertaken in
new therap*s. The medKxI and suentsfic communbb.es need ￿tter research ti¥)Is and invèstment in novel

The NOMAN is an Island Campaign raises awareness atK)ut th8 HPV-related car￿er epidemic in men and
women and educates about the imwrtance of universal HPV vawnation. while challervjing p8rti¢ipants to
èxtrerne 8nduranc8 races a(xoss the workl. It is through 5uth extrem8 feats ol athletiasm that NOMEN
honour the struggle and isoktion that many Ca￿er patients feel.
NOMAN has been an incredibty sUC￿$ful campaign. Since Tts inaugural event in 2013 with the Barcelona
Ibvza.. Row to End HPV. over 150 individuals- and their hundreds of supporters-
have embraced the cause afbd wr values. These NOMEN have raised 8warenes8 8bout HPV-cancer8 on a
lo¢al, natthal, and intem8lK)nal as well as funds to suwyt (xjr kwf8mmes.
The passion of our participants ne￿r ceases to amaze us. espeaalty in the context of the COVID-19
pandemic. The NOMAN carnpa￿n implemented the necessary parameters and covid regujats'ons to enab
our scheduk8d enduranc• and awareness events lo lake place.
2022 saw NOMAN riders lakè on Haulè R(yJt8 &V8nts al Dwuèz and Davos. Thè Hautè RoLrtè is th8
workl's most prestKJious cycling event amateur cydists. Thè faces provide unparal¢el*d èxperiencès wrth
3- or 74ay professional road cycling ￿ents in the most Icon￿ cyding destinat￿9 w0ddw￿fr. During the
34lay events. riders lake on som8 300km and ao(x)m+ of verbcal ascent. testsng thernselves against the most
infamous climbs in Ihe worfd, all in Ihe name of rnising awareness of HPV-reLqted cancers. Additionally, at
each event all partiCiP8nts were given our END HPV socks to Iwjht vp ¢he (Jimbs and generate conversation
about our work to èliminate HPV canc8ts. NOMAN C￿fOUnd￿r Tristan Amada also spok* about our mission

HPV ACTION EUROPE NETWORK
In 2018 and 2019, Ihe Foundation was invdved in discussions to esta￿lsh an advocacy campaun in Europe
to introduce gender.neutral vaccination across the reg￿￿ and ￿mpletelY eliminate HPV-rdated diseases.
NOMAN has partnered wilh the Euro￿an Can¢xr Organisation IECOI to achieve this mission. ECO works to
r8duc8 the burden of cancer 8nd ifflprov8 out(x>mes arKI th8 qU81ity of Gqf8 for c8n(xr p8ti8nis through
multidisciplinary inits'abves. As the European not-for-profit federats.on ol member organisations working in
cancer. they convene oncokjgy professionals and patients lo ag￿ on FM)licy. advocate lor positive change,
and be the united Vol￿ ol the European Can￿r o)mmunty. Together with ECO. the Foundation looks
forward to working with European policy makers to end the sufieriTrJ caused by HPV cancer5. In 2021, we

Europ8an R8gK)n, inth8tlV8S SLth as HPV vac£inalK)n and c£rviGql Ggncer screening progr8ms 8r8 riotab
absent. Even among those wilh wdcanab(x) efft)rts. a gender-neutral apprtsach is not universally adopted.
Notably, numer(yJs countries with established vacanal¥)n and $c￿enI￿a initiatives are encc¥Jntering
challenges in achieving optimal Servi￿ utilisalion.
The￿ remains a substanb'al amount of work to be done lo eliminate HPV Can￿rS as a public heath concem.
Examining the state of HPV pr8v8ntion across the WHO Europ88n region (WHO EURO). this dat8 co118cb.on
and analysis will infomi thè HPV Action Europe Network's strategy to implement change. Armed with the
invaluab￿ insights prowd8d in this report, wè arè committèd Io 8xpeditsng 8cbons at thè r8gion81 lèvèl.
Addititsnally, we aim to lend tyjr SUPFX)rt lo Ihe advctacy endeavours ol HPV organisations within individual
countries. This cdlaborats've approach is aimed at ensuriThJ that all healthcare systems take the ne￿SSary
steps to effectivety safeguard their popuL8tions. ¥thich o)uld to the prevention of nearty 100.000 cancer
cases annualty.
Published an 'umbrella review ol interventions used to improve HPV vaccine uptake in children,
adole5￿nts and yotsng adults. T￿ r•sults w•re also publl*hod In thè Joumal STI.
Tha HPV Action Ne￿ork conducted an imwrtant revièw ol published evidènce. identifying vark)us ¢x)Ildes
and programmes that have improved intention an¢J uptake rates for HPV vaccination including printed
materials. SMS based health information. lac&t￿a￿8 presentations and O&A sessions. HPV vaccination is
easy to deliver, has immediate positive health impxts, and is highly efficac40us, making rt one of the most
effective cancer prevention strategies available. The findings of ￿1$ review will be disseminated widely, wrth
the aim ol ancouraging lh$ best possibb uso ol tIMs evid$nc& in HPV vacanalion pr¢grammès across Europg
and beyond.
HPV vaccination rates for girfs in Europe other parls of the worfd are hvJhly variable, ¥wth only
European countries achieving a gJ/v uptske ol all vaccine doses for girfs. whi￿ some countries have
m8n8ged to achieve over 70Wo uplake, others h8¥e r81es telow 50%, wth at ￿851 Tr)untn'es vaccinats'rrfJ
fewer than 10&/0 019lrts.
The main reason lor these suwlimal vacanabon rates is low vacane confidence among parents. carers,
and young people theMse￿es. This may be due lo inadequate infom)ation, distrusl in health aulhorilies and
vaccine rn8nuf8ctu￿rs. and concems regarding ¥8￿•ne safety. However. inlerventions can improve vaccine
¢onfiden¢& 8nd increase uptake rate$.
Successfully applied for EU4Heallh fvnding for the year PROTECT*UROPE project which will
tocus on increasing HPV vaccination uptake in EU member states.
The EU4Heath programm was adopted as a reskY)nse to the Cov1￿19 pandemic and to relnforce crisls
preparedness in the EU. The pandemic hwJhI￿hted (he fragility ol national health systems. The EU4Health
programme ¥wll bring a contribution lo Ihe longlemi heatlh challenges by buikling stronger. more resilient and
more accessible health systems, thrwgh financial support frorn the European Union.
Through th15 funding, the PROTECT*UROPE project wll champK)n g8nd8r-neutral HPV v8ccin8tion in th
EU to protect everyone against HPV cancers. by prowding inlomwtion and guidance to EU Member States
on..

The HPV Coalrtion is an expert advisory group of ￿adIng patienl groups, professional groups, clinicians, and
expert individuals who have ¢om& i(yJ&ther lo infomi and advance lh& UK'S joumey towards elimination ol
HPV-r*lat6d c2ncèrs - cancèrs whid) acctyJnl for 5% 01811 cancèts gksbally, and which wè now, for tha first
time in history, have Ihe opportunity to &liminale as a wblic health th￿at.
Despite Ihe scale ol the opportunty, Ihe UK has yet lo take Ihe slep of other ￿UntrieS. such as Australia and
Canada. in developing an action ￿an for cervical can￿r eliminatK)n. The UK also lags behind tre European
UnK)n which, through the 8ealin9 Can¢er Plan. has gone one step further. in ￿mmItt1ng lo eliminate 811 HPV
cancèrs. Thé HPV Coalition is Ih6rth)r6 èagèr to ￿ thè UK put In place a concratè plan for èliminatitsn as a
matter of priority, targeted at the whole raThJe of HPV-reLated cancers and suppoth'ng acc8SS to preventativ8
interventions for all parts of the popu￿t￿)n.
The Coalition will sland at the forefront of UK 5xAibym8king 8nd *ill brir¥J togelher 8 mernbership of patient

Anal cancèr is onè of thè 18St8st growng ￿ncerS in the Untted Stat8S, 8nd steadity increasing in thé United
Kingdom. We continue to work tirelessfy lo make lrfe better lor lamil*s faong anal cancer through our
programs to raise awareness. acce￿rate earfy deleth.￿. improve qualty of life, and advan￿ a cure. This
year. we made Incredib￿ progress raising awareress about the need lo reforni how anal cancer thrivers are
diagnosed and treated.
Pe•r to Peer Support Programm• and Thrivor Education
In the UK, about 1.5￿ people, and in Ihe US. aboul 9,71XJ are diagnosed wlh anal car￿er annually. An81

meet another anal cancer patient. The FOund8￿.0n prowde5 educational forums and 8 peer mentorirrfJ
program to SLJPPOrt Ihriv8rs to ck)sè this gap. Th8 Pèèr its Péèr Supw)rt Program is 8 free servicè providèd by
the Foundatson in the UK and USA lo connect pakn.ents and caregiv￿$ fac4ng challangès brought on by
anal cancer with a peer who has undertaken the same joum6y.

cancer. The ANCHOR stu¢Jy had main objectives". to detemine the effectiveness of screening for and
ating anal precancer. to reduce the Inciden￿ ol anal cancer in Hlv-ptssilive men and women, and lo create
bank of bbod. anal swab. and tissue specimens to support critical scientsfic studies on how anal cancer
progresses. There were two amis in the sludy: ami th8t received trealmenl f¢x an81 precancer and a

Ninety percent of anal cancer is cal￿￿ by thè human pa￿lk)mavlrus IHPVI, ￿•ch can cause changes to the
skin around and inside the anus. These charoes are called Th(gh￿rade squamous intraeprthelial lesions. or
HSIL. Not all anal HSIL will develop into ¢anw. Most HSIL will go away on their own. but some become
cancer over time and can evenlualty SFwd to other parts of the bcxjy. The incidence ol anal cancer is highest
in people living with HIV.
