## **KCM Chairperson’s Report April 2024 – March 2025** 

As most of you know Kaleidoscope Community Music manages Kaleidoscope Community Choir and Calidoscopio, a Brazilian drumming group. 

This has been a challenging year for Kaleidoscope Community Choir. We made the decision in September to take on an inexperienced choir leader. Over his first few months a number of choir members left for different reasons including his approach and the selection of songs. Members of the committee met regularly with him to give feedback, suggest songs and try to communicate what we wanted from a community choir leader. Despite regular meetings over the rest of last year and into this year, things had not improved. We emailed him with our concerns and specific expectations suggesting a meeting to discuss a way forward. At this point he offered his resignation which we accepted. 

Since then we have discovered that we are able to continue the choir ourselves and have been very grateful to all the people who have stepped up and taught new songs and revived old favourites. This has brought some old members back and with a few new people we have had some great singing sessions over the last few months. We have had some great feedback from someone who attended one of our recent sessions, who was full of praise for the atmosphere of respect, collaboration and good humour. We have arranged to get monthly support from Frances and Deb in the autumn and are hopeful that this is the right way forward for the choir. 

Calidoscopio drumming group has slowly been increasing but attendance at the monthly sessions does vary. The drummers have had three performances over the last few months which has brought in enough income to help balance the books. Thanks to Ceri for his commitment and energy in leading the drummers  over the last year. 

Thank you to members of the committee  and to our trustees who keep things going. It is great that we are bringing such enjoyment to people through singing and drumming.
