Post covid, Mawlower Sanctuary has experienced a subslanlial decrease in the number of dogs and
cats being rehorned, coupled V￿th an unprecedented increase in numbers needing lo come into care.
MayN¢)wer is always al maximum capacrty, operating wailing lists for both dogs and cats.
Unfortunately. all rescues find themgelveB In thls sriualion 8nd it can often be difficult explaining to
families needlng care for their pet. that animals neèd to be rehomed in ￿der lo create space lor other
needy animals.
Durtng the 12 monlh perlod from 1st July 2022 to 30th June 2023, M8yfiower ha8 rehomed 228 dogs
and 156 cats. However, the Sancluary remalns busy and Is constantly moving forward to maintain the
aims and objectives of the charity. We continue lo give education. guidance and support lo pel
owners and Members of the publlc on dog and cal weltsre i88ue8.
In recent year8, Maffjower Sanctuary has helped ￿[fare oryanlsallons abroad Imosl r•¢enlly
Romanial rehom& dogs In Ihls country. However, follovAng issues wrth Defra, a direcl result of the war
in Ukraine, %then a ban of imp¢rt8 from ctsrtain Gountries in E￿leM Europe was imposed, lh• number
of Romanlan re￿e$ dropped.
Although the b•n was subsequontly Ilfted. the Influx of UK dogs needing welfare h85 m•8nt that
Mayfiower has not received any dogs from oulsldè the UK since April 2023, although the Sanctuary
continues to support foreign welfare organisatsons through allernalive means (food, bèdding. olcl.
Such was tho success of the change to 8ppolntment only vlewng$. th1$ method of ehoo$lng
companion continues successfully. With 2023 being ma￿lower'S 20th Anniversary year, we hope thèl
dog and cat adoptions ￿11 8lart lo Increase once more.
The M8yfiower Boarding facilltles continue to be an asset, fllled to cap8clty on many occasion8,
Specially during Gchool holldays.

Like most Animal Welfare organ1￿tI0ft, Maynower continues to cope the current economic Crisi$,
relying on and heartened by, th8 support received from the community. Dedicated $t8ff worfK
alongwde enlhusiaslic volunteers and donallons are made by individuals and organisalions large and
small. Some donations are given regulady, s¢me on a one off basis, but all gratefully received.

partlcular, dur6ng this period, a grant from ADCH, in conjundon wth Mars pel foody, of £1500.00
bpocrfically towards food costs lor animals in care. A Further £5000.00 ha5 been awarded by ADCH
lor help durlng the coyl of living crisis. This was mueh needed al o lime when finances were low,
Help towards ever incre89Ing vote￿nary bills ha¥ been Inv4luable, in particular the Barry Green
Memorial Tru811£10,000.001 and Schnauzerfest1£1000.00).

During the year, incorne fell by approxlmalely £225,000 compared to 2022. malnly due to a f811 In
leg8cies 01 £213,000. Expenditure increased by approximately £101,000 mainly for salary costs and
depreuation on leasehold Improvements incuired during Ih? year, and thus the ¢harity showed
deficll of £134.000 compared lo 8 surplus of £191,000 in 2022.
