In June, we said goodbye to our leavers in Years 6 and 8 with a disco and social. All the pupils in these year groups were invited. Slush drinks, fruit kebabs and a buffet from the Thorngrove catering team kept everyone’s energy levels up. George Hooley provided the music and a photo booth ensured everyone took home a photo to remember the night. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped on the night.
Fundraising
– Summer Fiesta June 2024
In June 2024 we held the second summer Fiesta following the success of the 2023 re-incarnation. Starting straight after school, there were the usual tombolas and traditional games but in addition there were giant inflatables provided by Super Camps. The popular Ice Cream van was back and Thorngrove parents ran the fantastic ‘Pinata Bar’ from early until late. We were treated to live music from some Thorngrove past pupils and feasted on a delicious supper prepared by the Thorngrove catering team. Fire pits were lit and families socialised until late. Early breakfast was served from 7am and then it was time for everyone to pack up and depart. A big thank you to the committee and volunteers for their help – we couldn’t do it without you. A fantastic event!
The event raised £3293.28
– Gee Cartwright Cookery November 2024
Parents went back to school, as Gee demonstrated how to make delicious canapes. We watched, tasted and sipped a glass of wine as she shared hints and tips on easy hosting.
A lovely evening was had by all.
The event raised £426.13
– Second Hand Ski Sale November 2024
Parents and staff were able to sell their unwanted ski clothes and accessories, with 30% of profits going to the FOT.
The event raised £204.92
– Quiz and Curry Night January 2025
100 staff and parents and past parents joined us to test their brain power on a fun and competitive evening. Rosie Bellman and Lucinda Thomas ran a fantastic bar service and ‘Thai Dan’ fed us a delicious curry. Thank you to Alex Lonsdale for being our quizmaster.
Event raised £709.32
– Rio Royale May 2025
The ball was overall a huge success. With a larger committee and more delegation to specific jobs, this made it much more streamlined in the organising. External caterers, hire, live band, marquee and staff costs were much increased from Burns Night so the decision to increase ticket cost was made.
Sponsorship was much harder to come by, but with the huge generosity of Apple print, a successful live auction and silent auction, excellent funds were raised.
Finally, everyone enjoyed it, and the exposure for Swings and Smiles was a massive!
Event raised £17168.66
– Car Washing July 2025
Last Summer term, the Year 2 class organised and carried out a Charity Car Wash on Sports Day, in aid of Swings and Smiles. The school community showed incredible encouragement and support for the children, with some people even choosing to donate without having their cars washed – something we are truly grateful for. The children’s commitment to the job in hand was outstanding; they supported one another brilliantly, worked so hard, and showed real determination throughout the event. Thanks to their efforts and the generosity of our community, we are delighted to share that we raised 220.06 for this wonderful cause.
Event raised £220.06
Second Hand Uniform Shop
As always, our very successful uniform shop has raised a wonderful £5109.38 across the year for the FOT (some of this was from 2023-2024 as they had a new treasurer in place). We thank all of the volunteers who give up their time to make this possible.
