Summary
Nottingham Symphonic Winds (NSW) consists of Nottingham Symphonic Wind Orchestra (NSWO) and Nottingham Wind Ensemble (NWE). The groups perform concerts of wind orchestra music for the general public and help raise funds for other charities and similar organisations.
NSW is an unincorporated association of approximately 80 members governed by a constitution with trustees appointed at annual general meetings.
Objectives and activities
The main activity of both groups is preparing for and undertaking concert performances, and the concert schedules consist of a wide selection of concerts around the region. In planning the group’s activities for the year the trustees kept in mind the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit.
Concerts and fundraising
This season’s concerts took place in a wide variety of venues and locations. The geographical reach of the concerts covered Nottingham and the surrounding areas.
The concerts helped to raise funds both for NSW and for nominated charities. During the year we raised money for The Children’s Bereavement Centre in Newark.
Charity development
We have seen the strengthening of both groups musically over the season, as we continue to recover from our absence during the pandemic.
Finance Summary
The group’s income statement for the period and balance sheet as at 31 August 2023 are attached. All the group’s funds are unrestricted, and are held to meet the costs of planned future activities, unforeseen expenditure and for future replacement of percussion instruments, van and storage shed.
