The Gate Community Church Registered Charity No: 1146562

Annual Report for the year ending 31/05/2025

Objects & Activities

The Gate Community Church is committed to the following objects:

  1. To advance the Christian faith [in accordance with the Statement of Beliefs] in such ways and in such parts of the United Kingdom or the world as the Trustees from time to time may think fit;

  2. To relieve sickness and financial hardship and to promote and preserve good health by the provision of funds, goods or services of any kind, including through the provision of counselling and support in such parts of the United Kingdom or the world as the Trustees from time to time may think fit; and

  3. To advance education in such ways and in such parts of the United Kingdom or the world as the Trustees from time to time may think fit.

The Trustees are aware of the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit in their publication ‘The Advancement of Religion for Public Benefit’ and have given regard to it in their administration of the Charity.

Over the course of the last year we have continued to put regular postings on Facebook including a weekly link to the recordings of our Sunday services. A few members of the church have been unable to attend for some time and some of these do not have internet access so we have also continued to send out CDs each week.

We have continued to make regular monthly gifts to the Living Stones Church in Okara, Pakistan. We are also continuing to provide financial support to an asylum seeker who joined the church early in 2022

In addition to the regular overseas giving mentioned above, we have also given the following:

We are part of a network of churches called “Maximise”. The church leadership team receives support from the leadership of Maximise and the area leaders’ meetings have been continued on a monthly basis using Zoom. The “Maximise Gatherings” are now held twice a year and members of the church have attended on each occasion. We are continuing to make a financial contribution to Maximise which we pay on a monthly basis.

Financial Review

Total receipts for the year were £34,250.58 and total expenses for the year were £32,251.13. Details of these amounts are shown in the attached financial statements.

Reserves Policy

Currently we do not have any financial liabilities and therefore we do not have any need for specific reserves. However, at the year end, £9,530.24 was held in a deposit account (£1,620.00 ofthis is designated for the Building Fund).

Pastors Remuneration

Mr Robert Grimshaw has continued to receive £100.00 per week in recognition of the duties involved in being the senior leader of The Gate Community Church. (Mr Grimshaw is registered as self-employed and is

4

responsible for declaring this income for tax purposes). Mr Philip Warne has continued to receive £75.00 per week in recognition of the pastoral duties that he carries out within the church. (Mr Warne is also responsible for declaring this income for income tax purposes).

Volunteers

Apart from a payment of £100.00 per week to Mr Robert Grimshaw, and the £75.00 per week paid to Mr Philip Warne, The Gate Community Church is run on a volunteer basis and we would like to thank everyone for their support and hard work throughout the year. There is a Protection Policy in place in respect of children and vulnerable adults. Checks are made with the Disclosure and Barring Service in respect of persons dealing regularly with young people and vulnerable adults. Whilst it is impossible to eliminate all risks and their consequences, efforts are constantly made to minimise such occurrences. The appointed Protection Officer is Mr Philip John Warne.

Data Protection and Privacy

We contacted the Information Commissioners Office in the early part of 2018 and ascertained that we were not required to register. However, we recognise that we are required to comply with the law in regard to data protection and the new GDPR regulations and we therefore adopted a Data Protection Policy and a Privacy Policy in May 2018. Both of these are available on the church website.

Administration

The Gate Community Church is a charitable trust registered with the Charity Commission in England and Wales and currently has seven trustees:

Mrs Janice Sylvia Arrowsmith Mr Philip John Warne Mr Robert David Grimshaw

Mr James Stanley Whitworth Mr Myles Darren Cross Mr Nigel Thompson Mr Dennis lan Rogers

It is considered that the Trustees and any others who could be understood to be ‘managers’ in the affairs and activities of the Charity are deemed to be ‘fit and proper’ persons under the terms of the Finance Act 2010. Where a new Trustee is appointed every effort is made by the current Trustees to brief the new Trustee on the present situation of the Charity at the time of their appointment. Charities Act 2011.

Independent Examiner’s Report.

Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of the Gate Community Church, CC Reg. no. 1146562.

I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31°". May 2025, which are set out on the attached pages.

Respective responsibilities of the trustees and examiner.

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.

it is my responsibility to :

examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act;

follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity

Commissioner under section 145 (5) (b) of the 2011 Act; and

to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of the independent examiner’s report.

My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

Independent examiner’s statement.

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

  1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and

to prepared accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with

the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act

have not been met, or

  1. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
