INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 29 February 2024
FOOTBALL FOR PEACE FOUNDATION REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 28 FEBRUARY 2024
The trustees who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 28 February 2024. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and aims
Our mission is to advance international relations by leveraging the soft power of football and American football to address global challenges that create division.
We aim to build sustainable initiatives to support global communities and foster peace and prosperity. Through advocacy and peace-building efforts, we address issues such as inequalities, water security, well-being, environmental degradation, and education. Our commitment aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals and remains at the core of our mission and objectives.
Objectives:
• Our objectives are designed to reflect our community-focused mission. Each year, the trustees review these objectives and activities to ensure alignment with our focus areas and projects. During this review, we consider the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit.
• We aim to collaborate with partners to design and deliver safe, educational, and engaging projects in the UK and internationally.
• We strive to provide opportunities for young people and communities to engage in learning programmes and initiatives that address our focus areas while enhancing educational outcomes and building resilient communities.
• We work with key partners in the public, private, and voluntary sectors to deliver high-quality projects.
Aims:
• Challenge: Use football as a tool to promote personal and social development, equipping young people and communities with skills to challenge negative behaviours and attitudes.
• Connect: Build connections between individuals, communities, and nations, leveraging football’s unique power to address local and global challenges.
• Educate: Raise awareness of sustainability, life skills, and the role of football as a force for peace and a catalyst for lasting change.
Project Aims
• Establish sustainable initiatives to support communities in some of the most vulnerable areas worldwide through our campaigns.
• Use the power of football to educate, empower, and connect young people from diverse backgrounds, fostering dialogue and encouraging collective contributions to their communities.
• Enable young people to become ambassadors of change within their own communities, empowering them to take on leadership roles and address local challenges.
Public Benefit
The charity provides a wide range of sporting, educational, and social inclusion activities in line with its charitable objectives. These activities benefit a broad spectrum of the community in the UK and abroad, involving children and people of all ages, abilities, and genders.

Programme Snapshot
Programme Overview: Albania
During this accounting year, we successfully delivered our youth intervention programme across two key cities in Albania: Tirana and Durres. The programme engaged and educated over 100 young people, leveraging the unifying power of football as a tool for positive change.
In addition to football-based activities, the programme featured educational workshops aimed at building essential life skills. These workshops focused on resilience, leadership, and media literacy, equipping participants with the tools to navigate challenges, inspire others, and critically assess information in today’s media landscape.
This initiative not only fostered personal development but also strengthened community connections, empowering youth to become active contributors to their society.
Programme Overview: Bradford Peace Centre
The Bradford Peace Centre has seen significant growth over the past year, with increased youth engagement and active participation in its initiatives.
Key activities delivered during the year include:
• Over 250 free football training sessions for local youth, providing a platform for skill development, teamwork, and inclusion.
• Educational workshops delivered in partnership with the University of Bradford, focusing on leadership and addressing local challenges.
• Community action days, where participants actively contributed to local needs through initiatives such as cleanup campaigns and cross-generational support activities.
These efforts have strengthened community ties, empowered youth to take on leadership roles, and fostered a culture of collaboration and positive social impact within the local area.
Programme Overview: Mozambique
During this accounting year, our programme in Mozambique, part of the Rehydrate The Earth campaign, progressed to its second phase. This initiative focuses on water restoration in one of the most water-stressed regions globally, aiming to address critical water scarcity challenges while empowering the local community. Key achievements of this phase include:
• Upskilling 15 new water stewards: These individuals were trained to manage and implement sustainable water practices, ensuring long-term water security for their communities.
• Training 15 new football coaches: By combining water restoration efforts with football development, we aim to build local leadership and inspire community resilience through sports.
• Implementation of 24 groundwater recharge features: These systems are designed to capture and store rainwater, replenishing underground water supplies. This infrastructure supports 12 months of agricultural activity, which is vital for food security and economic stability in the region.
These developments have directly benefited over 6,000 community members, improving their access to water for agriculture, daily use, and local livelihoods.
By integrating water restoration with leadership development and sports, the programme is fostering more empowered, resilient, and prosperous communities. The second phase marks a significant step forward in our mission to address water scarcity and its impacts while creating a foundation for sustainable growth and self-reliance in the region.

1 Accounting Policies
1.1 Accounting Policies
The principal accounting policies adopted by the Charity, which is a public benefit entity, in the preparation of the accounts are as follows.
1.2 Basis of preparation
These accounts have been prepared under the historical cost convention, as modified by the inclusion of charitable properties and fixed asset investments and investment properties at valuation.
These accounts have been prepared in accordance with “Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)” (effective 1 January 2019) - (Charities SORP (FRS 102)), the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) and the Charities Act 2011.
These accounts are presented in pounds sterling and rounded to the nearest pound.
1.3 Going concern
The Trustees have prepared financial projections, taking into consideration the current economic conditions and have, at the time of approving these accounts, a reasonable expectation that the charity has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. Thus they continue to adopt the going concern basis of accounting in preparing the accounts.
1.4 Income from charitable activities
Income from charitable activities is recognised over the period to which the income relates. Concert fees are recognised at the date of the event. Membership fees are recognised over the period of the membership. Rent is recognised over the period to which it relates. Any amounts relating to future periods are deferred.
1.5 Expenditure
Expenditure is recognised when a present legal or constructive obligation exists at the balance sheet date as a result of a past event, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required to settle the obligation, and the amount can be estimated reliably. It is inclusive of VAT which cannot be recovered.
Direct costs are those costs which directly attribute to its activities. Wages and salaries are allocated to direct costs based on an estimate of time spent on charitable activities by staff members.
Support costs include staff costs and are those which do not produce a direct output. Staff costs relate to specific activities and this is reflected in the allocation of payroll costs based on the percentage of time spent.
9
FOOTBALL FOR PEACE FOUNDATION
NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 29 February 2024
All costs, including governance costs, are allocated between the expenditure categories of the charity on a basis designed to reflect the use of the resource. Costs relating to a particular activity are charged directly; others are apportioned on an appropriate basis.
Support costs and overheads have been calculated by allocating staff time to the level of involvement in the various activities of the Charity.
1.6 Taxation
The organisation is a registered charity and has no liability to income tax or corporation tax on its charitable activities during the year.
Value added tax is accounted for on an accruals basis.
1.7 Fund accounting
Unrestricted funds are those funds which are available for use at the discretion of the Trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the charity and which have not been designated for other purposes.
Restricted funds are funds which are to be used in accordance with specific restrictions imposed by donors or which have been raised by the charity for particular purposes.
