## **Ignite (Big Ideas) Trustees Report to the Charity Commission – End of March 2024**

## **(IGNITE (Big Ideas) a registered charity no. 1146258, company limited by Guarantee No. 7935497)**

During the year ending March 2024 the work of Ignite has continued to grow, specifically our work through the Gateway Project in India. Income is a mixture of committed individuals, key trusts such as the Awakening Foundation and the Message Trust and Elim churches such as City Church and City Church Caerphilly. Lucy Patterson continues as our freelance book keeper.

## **Trustees**

There have been no changes to the Trustees, we still have 3 trustees currently appointed. Stephen Williams (Chair), Gary Smith and Ian Rowbottom. The Trustees will be appointing Nigel James to join them as a Trustee at their next AGM.

## **Summary of ‘Objects’**

The Charity’s ‘Objects’ for the public benefit are to advance the Christian faith in accordance with the statement of beliefs appearing in the schedule hereto in such parts of South Wales, the United Kingdom or the World and the Trustees may from time to time think it is fit to fulfill such other purposes which are exclusively charitable according to the Law of England and Wales and are connected with the charitable work of the charity.

## **Details of Structure, Governance and Management**

The directors of this charity are its Trustees for the purpose of charity law and are collectively called ‘Trustees’ throughout the report.

The trustees are recruited through personal contacts of the existing trustees. Potential trustees are elected based on expertise, wisdom and the knowledge that they can bring to the management and administration of the board of trustees. The decision of appointments is made by the board including the residing Chair of Trustees, Mr. Steve Williams.

The Board of Trustees have wide reaching experiences ranging from Christian Ministry to commercial business skills. They meet quarterly to supervise and strengthen the vision and strategies of the charity.

The board of trustees remain accountable to the Charity Commission and for their careful use of charitable and public funds. They are also responsible for the achievement of performance standards in the charity’s service provision.

## **Policy on Reserves**

The board of trustees ensure that reserves are sufficient to meet the Trust’s immediate charitable objectives.

## **Barclays Bank Accounts**

In November 2023 we were temporarily debanked by Barclays bank. Although we have banked with them for over 30 years, they began to ask for additional support information. All of this was produced in a timely manner but was either subsequently lost or rejected by Barclays. Duplicate and amended documents were sent to no avail. Without warning, all our accounts were closed. Barclays have since accepted liability for the mistakes that they have made and acknowledged that the accounts should not have been closed. The results of their actions meant a loss of Gift Aid for 3 months, a loss of income from many donors for 3 months and some donors not reinstating once the bank accounts were reopened. The Trust was compensated £300 plus postage.

## **International Contacts**

## **India**

There has been a lot of development in our support of the work in India under the direction of the local partner, Gateway Ministries. Church building has continued with 4 churches funded taking the total number to 36. The funds for these additional churches came from Gateway Caerphilly, a Christian couple and the Message Trust.

We continue to look at ways to reduce costs and develop income for the Gateway school and children’s home.

## **Liberia**

Our relationship with Ignite Liberia is still strong, financial support has come directly from individual gifts and the awakening foundation, and as such has not been administered through Ignite.

## **Wales**

Ignite continues to support initiatives that share the Christian faith in Wales. All support is channeled towards the work of The Message Trust in Wales. This includes the work of Cardiff Street Pastors.
