£2 million of social investment.

ACROSS Th'E WORLO TO WELCOMING OTh'ERS
Abdul fled on a 5.000-mile journey. fighting to Su￿1Ve for 18
monihs at the age ofjusl 14. Abdul's father had served in ihe
Alohan military and lost his life to Taliban ieprisals.
When he was then placed with us In County Durha￿ Abdul
struggled to ad8pI- he isolated himself and fell out with his
housemates. Conflict resulted in police call out& damaged
properly and Abdul ivanted to move inlo a flat ivith another
housing provider- bul by the next ivlonday he was evicted
from there for causing substantial damage. He faced
homelessness but Handcrafted believes Ihal everyone
deserves 8noiherch8nce, even if il cosls
When hls first nemi housemale was due to arrive. Abdul was
anxlous. He decided lo make them feel welcome by
preparing a meaL but we had to teach him to c￿k first!
We have kept upthe cooking lesson& Hecan nobrfcook a
range ol meals Independently. This lecl to grow.rth in
confidence and healthy coping mechanisms.11 gave him
space lo open up about his strugoles and he is now
accessing counselllng.
STABILITY FOR YOUNG CARE LEAVERS
Care leavers face cliff-edge drops in supwrt once they turn

FINANCIAL REVIEW
Incoming Resouicès toialled £1.507,418 and expendilure ¥ias £1.545,903. The movement in funds
arising in this financial period was a net deficit of E38.485- which left iolal funds held by Ihe
charity of £297.056 at 31st December 2023.
The charlty has achieved a slgnlflcant Increase in income from Chaiitable Activities with the
income from rental Income. training contract and S￿la[ enterprise increasing by 61 Y. from
£688.879 in 2022. to £949.817 in 2023. This offset lowe( grant income which decreased from
£577.275 in 2023 to £374,596 in 2023. This is inline with the cliarilios stiategic aim to diverslly
revenue slreams and decrease ieliance on the subjective decisions of granlmakers. The charity has
also begun recelving income for providing support work for Unaccompanled Asylum-seeking
Chlldren in County Durham - thls totalled £112.570 in 2023.
