Achievements and Performance
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. |
During this year, we have had a mix of 14 committee members, 5 non-committee members, 56 groups, 67 group leaders and 940 members and what have we got? Well Burton u3a of course! Everyone has worked hard to ensure our u3a had been kept as good as it is and better than many. I want to thank everyone who has contributed in whatever form to keep us going through the past 12 months. We've had some great successes. Our membership has increased to 940 (and increasing), we have had new groups coming into existence, and many of our events have been very well subscribed. Every one of our events has happened by the work of our volunteer army of committee members and Group Leaders. Our committee members are elected for a maximum period of 3 years and it is now time for 5 committee members to retire after their 3 years’ service and we need volunteers to step up onto the committee to help take our u3a forward for the next stage in its progress. Please consider putting yourself forward for election to the committee to be that person to join the team. We currently meet on the first Tuesday of the month at 10 am for about 2 hours. Some of the highlights of the past 12 months have been the holidays to Sunderland and Thursford, day trips to Llandudno, Bakewell Market, Chester, Leicester and to see Peter Pan in Birmingham, two Quiz afternoons, two Talk & Teas, the Christmas Party at Pirelli Stadium, singing and folk concerts and very approximately 1,688 Group meetings throughout the year. Just Am - A - Zing! This will be my last report to you as I have served my three years as Chair and it is time for me to retire, as well. It has been an amazing period in office and I must pass on my sincere thanks to the committee for supporting me in making Burton u3a work. Some of my particular highlights are the introduction of online payment for membership fees, introduction of new interest groups, and the knowledge that we must be doing most things right as our membership keeps on growing. I must thank every one of those who make it all happen and offer you my best wishes as you go forward to 2026 and beyond. |

Financial Review
| Financial Review | |
|---|---|
| Review of the charity’s financial position at the end of the period |
At the end of the financial year our income was £99k and our expenditure was £90k Our surplus for the year was £8k. The bulk of this has come from a change in how we are managing out membership payments The committee are working to reduce our surplus and accumulated funds as we recognise we are a nonprofit making organisation. Our new committee will decide on the most appropriate actions to take and inform our membership accordingly. |
| Statement explaining the policy for holding reserves stating why they are held |
We aim to keep a level of reserves that will cover 12 months of regular operating activity. |
