Report from Chair of Building Malawi for 2024
The focus of the charity is to provide the infrastructure to enable the education of children and communities in Malawi (building libraries, community halls and school buildings).
The ongoing current project is the development of an area of land on which we have built a secondary school, library, police post and a community hall. The secondary school is now complete and has been in use for 3 years. The charity continues to support the school financially until such a time as it is able to be self-sustaining.
The following activities took place at the Lingadzi Academy Site near Lilongwe, Malawi in 2024.
● Work continued on the registration of the charity in Malawi.
● Ascent Soccer (a charity partner) had requested and provided funding for a primary school on the site. This project was being completed, along with the connection of electricity to the site.
● A bamboo structure to be used as a hall for the use of the students of Ascent Soccer for education and for accommodating other teams for home matches including a kitchen was built with the help of funding from Ascent Soccer.
● Ongoing work was carried out to obtain and move the aircraft to the site (a private donation had been made for this purpose).
● A replacement water pump and roof repairs had to be funded as ongoing costs.
● An abandoned bus was purchased and moved to the site to be re-worked into a classroom/reading room.
● Throughout the year more planting took place to provide shade and to enhance the site.
