The Club provldes crlcket coachlng and facllltles to support partlcSpatlon In 5POrt for both youth and adults, Including indlvlduals wlth dlsabllltles. From January onwards, regular coaching se55ion5 are offered to youth and adult members in preparatlon for the playlng season, whlch commences in April. During the playing season, the Club enters multlple teams in local and county leagues. In 2023, five adult teams competed in the Surrey Cricket Leagues on Saturdays from Aprll through September, whlle a slxth team organlsed frlendly flxtures on an occaslonal basls. These teams represent a wlde range of playlng standards, from hlgh-level competitive crlcket to More recreational leve15. In addltlon, an adult Sunday team, two youth Sunday teams, and two twenty-aver league sldes comprlslng both adult and older youth players-were actlve throughout the season. The Club also provldes year-round coèchlng opportunltles for dlsabled partlclpants, Wlth cornpetltlve matches and events taklng place durlng the summer months. Youth partlclpatlon remalns the most actlve and vlbrant area of the Club. Coachlng se551ons are held throughout the week, wlth the Club's facllltles regularly used by young players and thelr familie5, fostering both sporting development and communlty engagement, Volunteers Valley End Crlcket Club Is a charlty powered by volunteers, wlth all the dlrectors dedlcatlng their time to the operatlng of the club wlthout compensatlon. The club operates wlth numerous volunteers from age group managers to flrst alders and more. Officiallyi there are over 20 volunteer roles that are populated by local parent5, crlcket enthuslasts and members of the community. Volunteers connected with youth activltie5 are DBS checked to protect the welfare of youth Publlc Beneflt The activities detailed above, whlch were carrled out In In the year, are for the publc benefit, as de5crlbed by the Charity Commission. Despite these challenges, an impressive 290 matches were stlll played at home across all 5ectlons. The commlttee would like to commend the grounds team for their exceptional work in preparing and malntainlng the pitches throughout the season. Their commitment to ensurlng crlcket was played whenever possible, despite difficult conditions, was outstandlng. Followlng a record year in 2023, membership grew again In 2024 to reach an all-time high of 632 members, including over 450 youth players, record numbers of women and girls, and 19 disabled cricketers In the Rascals programme. The club also continued to host county and regional fixtures, including Surrey teams, junior festivals, and disabillty matches, relnforcing Its reputation as one of the most Incluslve and actlve clubs In Surrey. The club once agaln fielded five senior Saturday league sides, a Sunday Trust team, two midweek limited-overs teams, and a Sunday Soclal Xl. The Flrst Xl flnlshed the season mid-table in Dlvlslon One, showlng promise but facing challenges wlth player availability. The Second Xl, following promotion to the Premiership in 2023, faced tough opposition and were relegated after a challenging season. The Thlrd XI consolldated their positlon In the Premlershlp, while the Fourth Xl enjoyed an outstandlng year, flnlshing as league champlons. The Fifth Xl narrowly missed out on promotlon, fin15hlng thlrd in thelr dlvlslon after several matches were 105t to the weather. The Sunday Soclal Xl a150 enjoyed a full Season of frlendly matches, providing opportunltles for both developing youth player5 and senior member5 to play In a relaxed and enjoyable envlronment. A major mlle5tone for the club In 2024 was the successful launch of the Women's 1st Xl, competlng In the Surrey Women'5 League for the first time. Desplte a difficult Start, the team showed strong improvement, finlshlng mld-table and recordlng a number of impressive vlctorles later In the season. The Ladle5 Softball Vlxens team contlnued to grow In size and strength, partlclpatlng In multiple festlvals and frlendly flxlures throughout the Summer. The youth sectlon remalns the most vlbrant part of the club, wlth record particlpation across all age groups and the conllnued growth of girls, crlcket. For the first tlme, the club was able to fleld glrls, teams In every age category, from under 75 through to under 17s, In addition to the women'5 slde. Several youth teams enjoyed success In league and cup competitlons, Includlng multlple age-group tltles and county cup wlns. The youth programme contlnues to provide an excellent pathway Into senlor cricket, supported by a strong team of dedlcated volunteers and quallfied coache5. The club continues to operate as an ECB Dlsabllity Crlcket Champlon Club and a Lord's Taverners Super l Hub, offering both softball and hardball crlcket for players with disabilities. The Walklng Crlcket section also contlnued to thrlve, competlng successfully In the Surrey West Dlvlslon and further developlng opportunltles for soclal and Incluslve crlcket. The Charl-Tree Appeal was once again organised during the wlnter months, ralslng funds and provldlng meals and glfts for local famllles In need. Report (continued) For The Year Ended 31 December 2024 Reserves Pollcy Reserves pollcy The trustees have sought to maintsin sufficient reserves to cover a normal level of expenditure over a twelve-month period and to provide for unexpected events, Given the relative size of the club, a large unplanned c05t can have a large Impact on the finances of the club. As a result, the trustee5 would like to re-establish a cash reserve to protect the club flnanclally. ReseNes would be kept in an interest-bearing cash account. The value of the establishment of these reserves has proven to be prudent already and was needed In 2019 and was a saviour for the club in 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemlc put the world on pause. The trustees wlll look to malntain reserves at an ongoing suitable level. However, the development of the new pavllion and ambitions of the club contlnue to challenge the maintenance of these reserves untll the 'new normal, costs are establlshed. For 2024, this again proved to be a challenge, but the club The club will look to regularly reassess and potentlally increase these reserve levels to ensure a smooth runnlng of the charlty. Any expenses Incurred In the performance of dutles as Trustees Is pald for Independently by the Trustees. James Youngi the Youth Dlrector, has a son, Ed Young that Is a pald professlonal for the club, wlth hls responslbllltles focused on coachlng and playlng. Ed Young Is also the co-owner of the club's outsourced coaching provider, Inform Crlcket. The sums paid towards Ed Young are not Inslgnlficant sums, but the club Is comfortable that any decisions made about hls work are done wlthout the Influence of James In Its dlrectlon.
