The aims of the pre-school are to enhance the development and education of children primarily under statutory school age by providing a high quality, stimulating and nurturing environment.

Opportunities to learn and develop through play and creativity

Staff and committee actively involved in fundraising and raising the profile of the pre-school in the local area

Encouragement of the active involvement of parents in preschool setting through regular fundraisers, and parent rota for volunteering, helping to promote the aims and needs of the preschool

Ongoing membership and reliance on the guidance provided by The Pre-School Learning Alliance through telephone support, some committee member training, as well as policy & procedure and health & safety guidelines

Working closely with a local European Educational and training charity, the pre-school welcomes a small number of European volunteers on work placements from a few weeks to a year, providing the children with the opportunity to experience other languages, cultures and traditions first hand.

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

Activities

Due to the Corona Virus Pandemic, activities were limited this year. The setting restarted Nature Club which provided

opportunities for children to develop holistically in the outdoors and welcomed use of the local woods and beach.

In the Summer Term, we welcomed children and families for the annual Leaver’s Picnic. This was held in the Kingfishers garden where people could socially distance.

Staff Training under taken this year includes -

Prevent training Food Hygiene Makaton

One member started her degree in early childhood education. Two other members of staff completed their Early Years Professional Development Programme in Speech and Language for the 2-4 year olds.

New Staff:

We welcomed two new members of staff from the local community.

Additionally, a local university student came to to continue her PHD project with the children.

Our core team have continued working extremely hard for us this year.

We reviewed pay levels at the end of March 2019, in line with NMW increases, sadly our funding levels didn’t increase at the same level so we were very limited on the pay increases we could offer our team.

Fundraising

This year saw a brilliant fundraising effort by the committee, these included -

Bag to school collection about £30-40 per collection Ikea Grant – to buy poly tunnel, shed and various gardening equipment. £2380

EYITT grant – To pay for Gemma’s course. About £2333 per term SSP Grant – From furloughing staff over Corona virus crisis £483.25 Christmas Village fundraiser – 461.75 Poppy’s raffle – £326.10 Yoga retreat - £150 Photo commission - £69.50 Raffle and fun runs to help support the pre school - £709 Money raised by various members of the community due to the vandalism £2585

Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves

The Pre-school only has 1 current account. The aim of the Preschool is to keep two months of salary payments and running costs in the Current Account at all times. Unfortunately, due to the discrepancies in increases in National Minimum wage, minimal funded children and costs increases this hasn’t been achieved.

The Pre School is primarily funded by the Early Years funding from Cornwall County Council. This is topped up by some children being funded direct from the parents. This funding is used to pay the direct costs (wages, utilities, snacks, etc.) of the Pre School.

Fund raising activities are used to pay for the purchase of fixed assets, toys and books. It may also be used to subsidise social events, such as trips to the theatre.
