in Febnwy 2012. Its governing d(￿ull￿ is the COn￿ltution adopted on 19 July 2018 as amended on
21 (ktober 2021.
The purpose of the clwity is the advan(*ment of edU￿ti￿ in particular. the educatAon of older
people and those v/ho ar¢ r¢titrd fiDm time WO￿ by all mcaD4 induding &ssociknd a¢tivities
onducive to learning and E￿0￿81 devel(VEnenL in the Upper Calder Valley aad suryounding areas.

especially during the Willt￿ month& for those with mobilitylhealth i&8u&s.
In contras( our newest Groups offer more physical activity- Walknng Cricket goes from strength to
strength with keen particii)8tion in the U3A Lwe, and Pickle Ball is pmving increasingly ￿pUlar.
The Committee w(xks to ¢xpand our rdnge of Groups and to s￿>t and encourage p)tential leader
especially within the ffjore recent cohort of new M¢mkn.
Membership is open to all Ew)le who are retred or no longer in full time wotk in the up￿ Calder Valley.

Artivities- Report from the Chalr
For the second year we have held our monthly meetings aDd sevaal of our group &tivities in the
Todmorden Learning Centre and Community Hub cfL£CH). This ljas prov￿ to be a most
satisfactory venue with up to date audio visual eqUIp￿ent and with spaces to ￿COrnn￿ gmups of
all sizes. Faciltties at TtLCH coniiDue to be inwed to our advantsge, including a project to
improve the entrnne¢ hall. With the Fielden Hall in Todmorden being out of action during ￿n0VatiOn
in the latter part of the year. these facilities PLDved invaluable. Amongst many other venues used by
groups around the area we ¢ontinue to make use of facilitie5 at the Central Methodist Church.
Our monthly meetings continue to be well atteAyJ&£ ￿ll811y with over IIXI memba3 present. OUT
speakers have entertained and inform&J us with topics rangÈng from Tr HI￿Ory of the Halifax Zoo"
and'The Assassination of President Kennedy- to the of Everything-. and the careff of one
speaker which took bim-From Barrow to Baghdad-.

Group convenors coniinu¢ to wolk hard to provide eotatsining and eknional activities for our
members, and they must be congrntulated for their continued efforts. We now have 42 groups meeting
tn the year in qU￿tIon. a lon8-StandiDg member. (hil Allaby. sadly died Gail was a vociferous
supporter of T(thwrd¢n u3a who undert(h)k many iM￿t roles in our organisatsoJL Sh¢ will be
Miss￿ by us all.
During the year sevetal key rnembeTS of TIMlmordeD u3a gave notice that they would stand down from
their current roles. Fiona Ryland has ￿epped dovm as Secretary after providxng outstanding service
but remaTlls on the comtrllttee. and we welcome Mike Benton as our new Secfftary. Emily WatnicK
who has been instnunentai in bringing the role of tre&8urer up to date with the fulj use of internet
bankin& ￿tire$ in October 2025. We thank ber ftir 9 ye8rs scryicc in this cDxial rolc. I atn ple&sed to
report that we have a willing and able replacement in Alan McDonald. ETwe RO￿ Linda Cook and
Jrene Wilkinson also decided to stsnd down from the organiwon of Y£ts Go" trips. a task they knve
undertaken brilliantly for many years- many tbanks to th¢nL After a hiatus of som¢ month& new
convenors have agreed to undertake this important tasl and their first tiip took place in June 2025.
Th¢ financial position remains healthy with g￿¢[al rewves standtng at £22.538. an increase of
£3176 tn the year. and total charitable fimds at £25.635. The surplus reflects the steady increLse in
m¢mbership numbers and the effect of the Subs￿}ption rate inCTease to £20 fJom May 2024.
Expenditut¢ on the General Fund In￿ by just over £1 l(Kl ￿Pared to 2023124. wimarily to
increased payments to our parent b(Kty th¢ Third Age TTiisL aDd higber venue charges. tA>wer income
and eX￿Iditu￿ on the ScKial Fund is due to the Let's Go programme being inactive in the latter part
of the year.
The res￿ve$ position allows us to sUp￿)rt new s￿1*1 interest grOll￿ inv&8t in new equtpmenL and
ope with fiirtber Cost irVeas￿ in 202516 rdngjng from ￿)sta1 charges to venue hire. We will also be
able to new initiatives such os the short course pn)grdn]me planned for the aubjmn of 2025.
Given the ¢uttent position the wmmittee is not planning another incre&se for several years at least.

The reserv￿ policy is to maintain a level of ge￿aI urr¢stricted funds sufficient to wver around 6
months of an ordinary year's rut￿l￿g costs to ellsure that activities Can be maintained whilst seeking
alternative fulldiDg, and to allow for the fi￿dillg of new initiativcs. Reserv&% are More than adequate
for this PUTP)s¢. and it is ther¢foTe intende4J to retsin the £20 m¢mber5hip fee for several years at leas¢
while expanding activities and deal￿g with jJ￿reasing costs. The w>licy is reviewed annually by the
Trustees.
