Activitie8- Report from the Chair
This h&s been a year when our membership has increased. Not onty have we regalned members who
left during Covi(I we now have many more members than previously.
W¢ now hold our monthly m¢mbers' meetings at T(thorden Learning Centre and Community Hub
(TLCCH) where the facilities in general and particularly those for disabled members. are much more
satisfactory. We still use ground floor Tr)oms at our p￿vIOuS venue. the C¢ntral Methodlsts Church.
for committee meetings and some other group meetings.
Monthly meetings hav¢ been well attend￿ often with ov¢r 100 memb¢rs present. They have b¢en
entertained by some excellent spwkers on a wide range of topics - everything fn)m Victorian
Antiques to Colour Science! Thank8 go to our Speaker Finder for seeking out exL%llent s￿akerS each
month. All members have been kept infornied of these events whether present or not. Those members
without acc&￿ to email have been kept inforni¢d of monthly m¢mb¢rs m¢¢tings by ordinary mail.
Group Convenors have continued their a¢tivities. maintsining group participation. They are to be
COn￿atulated for their continued efforts. Some 42 groups are now meeting regularly. Walking Cricket
remains a very popular option, with our t¢am winning s¢veral games against other u3a groups. New
ups this year include L(Kal History. Thursday Cinema and Alfresco History and Archaeology.
During the year in question two previous Chairs of our u3a have sadly died. Jean Pearson and P¢ter
Carrigan both gave a most valuable contribution to our organisation in several different roles.
W¢ hav¢ b¢¢n pl¢ased to welcome new members to the Committee and these ar¢ adding great strength
and vitslity to our activities. However, ther¢ is an urgent need for more members come forward to join
the committee. We particularly n¢¢d volunteers to undertake the roles of Busin¢ss S¢cr¢tary and
Tr¢asurer.
Finance
The fmancial p)sition remains healthy with general reserves standing at £19,362 and totsl charltable
funds at £23,974. Although costs increased during th¢ year, particularly for hall and room hir¢
charges, financial results were better than anticipate4t with a surplus on the GeneraI Fund of £3047.
This was caused primarily by a much larger than usual number of new memba3 joining - 88 in the
year- &8 well as more members than expected renewing in advance of the l May 2024 duc date. The
subscription rate has increased to £20 for 2024r25. as a￿d at the 2022 AGM. and given the current
position the committee is not planning another inere&se for several years at least.
Equipment costs in th¢ year included the purchase of two wrtable creditldebit Card terniinals. which
allow us to take card paym¢nts at our monthly meetings for both subscriptions and l£t's Go bookings.
Given the ditTiculties now experienced in handling &qsh due to the withdrawal of local banking
faciliti¢& this has been much appr¢ciated by both members and the Treasurer.
Designated funds hold monies from members in respect of of Let's Go trips, and hall hirelexpenses
incurred by sp￿la1 interest groups. £2500 w&s transferred in the year from the IA'S Go fund to
general reserves.

Reserves Policy
Th¢ reserves policy is to maintsin a level of general unrestricted fimds sufficient to cover around 6
months of an ordinary year's running costs to ensure that activities can be maintatned whilst s¢eking
alternative funding. Reserves are more than adequate for this purw)se, and it is therefore intended to
retain the £20 membership f¢e for severdl years at leasL while expanding activities and dealiug with
increasing costs. The p)licy is reviewed annually by the TTUStees.
