Our youth leam has done an invaluable job again this year working with over 260 children and young people supwrted them in emerging from the pandemK into an uncertain time. This year our youth work wa5 able to retum lo Centre based yotrth work ￿th an emphasis on outdoor trips and activities including ntghl waks. campfire5 and spending time in green spaces_ During the year we started a new younger youth work session at the Centre providing the next generation with a space and opportunrty ft)r hyh qualty relth.onal youth work in their community. Our outreachlstreel based youth work ￿ntInUed well this year wrth regular football sessions al the Duck Pond Park and holiday outreach sports se$sic￿S- making the most of the •dditional funding the COMM￿ Wealh games bfoughl to 8imiingham in the summer of 2022. Our work signrficantly improved their physical and emotsonal health, kept ongoing connection with at risk young peopFe and reduced the impact of the wealth inequalities that have become wider in our uty as we live wrth the effects of the pandemic on our whole economy aThJ lives. Community Wlyk through Love Wedey Castle. facilitating and enabling this community nthork is a key part of our woth. Love Weoley Castle pr(xnotes the grfls, tJents and beauty in our community and 5 a￿ayS evolving because of the relat￿nal. partnership and asset based approach of the St Gabriel's Centre. We gathered together wrtualty and as the pandernK eased in petson to support families and individuals in our area and to keep a sense of connection. Gonversatson and community spirit through what continued to be an isolats.ng and uncertain lime for many. We have worked wilh 140 ajulls and directly impacted over 190 lamilies in our communrty. We were able to start to gather our community tC*3ether again through communrty events during the year. there was a real need to get our community out and talking again after the pandemic. Summer 2021 we held Gab$ in Ihe Park Summer fun for families wrth sports, arts. games. lunch for those on free $¢hool meals for chiklien. young people and families. We gathered our Community to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee ￿th "The Great Love Weojey Castle Pudding Off local baking. games. sports, activilies, gardening. With the wportunities the Common Weatth Games brought to Birmingham we were able lo fund regular community events in our local park through the summer of 2022 working with other community partners with an emphasis on sports and aciivty for families and young people. Through these events we were able lo rebuikj relationships with families in our community and help new faMil￿S to adually get to know some of their community. These events have been particularty successful in integrats.ng ne4V memb￿5 of the c￿nm￿nIty from more diverse backgrounds, which is vrtal for community cohesion as our estate is rapidly becomin9 more diverse. We have significantly reduced the isolatKJn of many families and improved their mental, emol¢onal and physical healih and hew rnrtigale some of the devastating effects the pandemic has had o wellbeing. OUT working with Incredible Surplus to enable a farer share of good food for those on low incomes has grown into a unrform swop shop and other $upp)rt. Our Community Gardening continued around the estate. sprin9 bulb and summer planting, a gianl sunflower grwng coMpetit￿n and a best commurFity garden competition. Community Space. Our Centre continued lo be a resource for the local community and base of our work wi(h over 100 wsits a week desprte the ￿StriCtIonS during this period. We have been able lo welcome back our groups suppoth.ng families wrth young ehildren and communty sports and exercise for all ages, as well as our own youth and communrty work. We continue to be here fcrf our community in challenging times and make a s￿n￿•Cant impact for good to the life of thts estate.
