||||||Purposes|
||||||During 2020,the ZVSF Trustees<br>in the|

||||||opportunities<br>to participate<br>in the cash|
||||||economy. There was little evidence of|
||||||the major relief agencies working<br>in|
||||||Matabeleland<br>and the privations<br>ofthe|
||||||region were intensified<br>by the|
||||||corruption<br>which is endemic<br>within the|
||||||Zimbabwean<br>economy. The|
||||||Zimbabwean<br>dollar continued to lose|
||||||value against the American<br>dollar and|
||||||maize stocks within Zimbabwe<br>were|
||||||exhausted<br>by the end ofthe year. This|
||||||necessitated<br>the import ofmaize from|
||||||South Africa at considerably<br>inflated|
||||||prices.|
||||||A nearly new pick up truck had to be|
||||||purchased<br>in November<br>2020so that the|
||||||mealie meal distribution<br>programme|
||||||could be sustained.<br>We were also asked|
||||||to support the emergency<br>feeding of|
||||||very young children<br>by importing<br>a|
||||||product called ePap from South Africa.|
||||||Otherwise,<br>we remitted sufficient funds|
||||||to the team in Bulawayo to purchase 406|
||||||tonnes ofmealie meal —46%more than|
||||||in 2019,which was already a record|
||||||year. Pastor Albert Chatindo<br>is|
||||||responsible<br>for the vast bulk ofthe food|
||||||distributed,<br>supplying<br>10kg offood per|
||||||family per month to people in Gwanda,|
||||||Plumtree<br>South, Beitarid<br>e, Masvin<br>o|





|Mazwi, Killarney,<br>Spring Farm and||
|---|---|
|Heaney Junction. We also supplied||
|primary schools<br>in Lupane with mealie||
|meal when they were not closed||
|because ofCovid. As in previous<br>years,||
|20tonnes went to Hillside Methodist||
|Church for onward<br>distribution<br>tothe||
|needy of Bulawayo,<br>including<br>the Island||
|Hospice, Bulawayo Shelter and a||
|hospice run by Youth for Christ.||
|Research and Consultation||
|The Trustees<br>remain<br>in close contact||
|with the partners<br>and colleagues<br>in||
|Bulawayo so that they are aware of local||
|developments.<br>They also monitor||
|Zimbabwean<br>on-line publications<br>and||
|take into account such research as is||
|published<br>by FEWS Net (Famine Early||
|Warning<br>Systems<br>Network —funded|by|
|US Aid) —which substantiate<br>the reports||
|ofour colleagues.<br>From time to time,||
|one ofour Trustees has visited||
|Zimbabwe<br>with aview to ensuring<br>that||
|ZVSF's modus operandi<br>is in line with||
|the needs ofthe people of Matabeleland.||
|The last such visit took place in||
|September 2018.||
|Advocacy and Information||
|The Trustees have continued to post||
|relevant<br>information<br>on the ZVSF||
|website<br>in order to communicate<br>with||
|those British people interested<br>in and||
|concerned about the plight of||
|Zimbabweans.<br>They have also opened|a|
|Facebook page which focuses on the||
|work ofZVSF in Zimbabwe.<br>They||
|distribute to past and present donors|bi-|
|annual<br>reports on the activities ofZVSF,||
|and they promote the work ofthe||
|Charity whenever<br>and wherever||
|possible<br>by presentations,||
|conversations<br>and digital||
|communications.||
