eEx The Bike Experience restarted its instructional events in 2023 after an absence due to the Covid-19 Global Pandemic. Summary report The charity has been able to operate a reduced calendar due to the fundratsing efforts of the Complete Fundraising company. There were seven instructional events and two fundraising events attended by the charity. Six instructional event5 took place at Silverslone on the Old Copse Runway, one instructional event at RAF ODIHAM, the fundraising events were ai Prescott Bike Feslival and Parallel Windsor. Due to a break in operating, the instructional events ran with limited volunleers and riders. Each evenl would have thrtt new riders and up to three returning riders. The returning riders would need to pro￿ld¢ iheir own equipm¢nt and helpers. For those who had not atlended for more than four years they w'ere Count￿ as a new rider, One Aprilia Mana motorcycle was scrapped due to th¢ deieriordting sthndard and the cost of gettin8 it back into an operaiing stale. Lookinb ahead to 2024.. We hope to run eight instructional events and increase that number if Complete fundraising is able to increase the funds ofthe charity. RAF ODIHAM have ceas¢d operating due to the fatality they experienced at their ARD in September 2023. Full Report In 2023 The Ejike F.xperience has bcen busy prLpuring bikes. instruilinb¥ rid¢ri and d¢inonslrating lo crowds. ThL' initial .slage was the preparation of bikes and equipmenl, as well as findingT a suitable venue that was also atrordable. After much discu55ions it w&s decided to accept the offer from Silversione to run the instruclional events at the Old Copse Runway. The costs were more than previous years but over £1,000 Cheaper (per event) than at either Bicester Heritage or Doningion. Th¢ next problem wa5 finding Public Liability Insurance. Over the years the charity h&s been in operation there has never been an accident involving any member of the public observing or taking part in th¢ charily. Flowever, we are required to have PLI and so tried to find atTordable cover. Eventuall>. we were able to source the cover for £6.720. whiLh wa5 8 huge increase Irom £4,000 in 2019, bul not as bad as some companies that w￿¢ quoting £12.000. The bikes were s¢rviced, repaired and prepared for the coming season. The leathers and riding equipment was all checked and the large trailer a150 serviced. The final preparation was ihe organising of the volunteer5 needed io run each event. We had planned three 'new riders, and a maximum of three 'returning riders.. New riders are thos¢ who have never been, returning are those who have been to a TBE b¢for¢, bui do not get the opportunity to ride anywher¢ else. For example. one returning rider can only ride with TBE as he has a brain injury and is not allowed to ride on the road or on any rac¢ track. We provide the only place for him lo enjoy the freedom of two wheels. In order to support the riders we n¢¢d a team of twelve volunteers. There are three instructors. and nine 'launch crew,.

The Bike Ex erience view 2 MAY In May we had a pair of back-to-back instructional evenls, boih of which were fully booked for new riders and each had two returning riders. The days were blessed with sunshine and everyone turned up excited and nervous w get on two wheels. The volunteers arrive at 8am in order to prepare the site, get the bikes out, lay out th¢ Coned course, conduct safety briefing and plan the day ahead. The riders then begin to arrive at 9.30am and get signed on, into riding equipment and ready to begin the day al l 0.30am. Throug, houl the day the rider.s developed from a basic 'straight line. launch and catch, to steering, input and Iigiure 85. Once ready they move to largTer coned circuit and are led by insiructors around the course. whilsl being observed by the main riding instructor of the day. Th¢ final stage is lo allow the rider to circulate by themselves and re-discover ihe amazing feeling of freedom and enjoyment. The six new riders all progressed io the ftnal slage of the TBE instructiona] event. Each one felt a huge sense of achievement and of self-belief. The friends and family ol'the riders saw th¢ joy on their faces and witnessed a new light shining in the eyes of th¢ rid¢rs. Th¢r¢ were five paralysed riders. one leg amputee. one brain injury and two stroke victims. JULY The third and fourth TBE-' instructional events took place on the 25th and 26th July. We were back at Silverstone and enjoyed another 'dry weather window. The temperatures were not as high as before, so riders were nol qulte so baked in their leathers. Over the course of the two days we had eight riders attend. It was a mixlure of impainnents: MS, Paraplegic. Amputee, TBI, R¢duced mobilily. No muti¢r th¢ impairIn¥ni. La¢h ridLr mddc prugjress throughout the day, and everyone was enjoyin¥ solo riding around th¢ TBE course by the end ol. the session. The second of ihe two days Saw TBE visited by iwo represenlativcs from the Mark Master Masons. It was the Mark Master Masons thal generously donated the funds thal enabled ihe chiirity to buy the Limd Rover which tows the 'l"Bk' trailer. Withoul the donalion we would not be able to transport any of the equipment, so we are extremely grateful to them. SEPTEMBER There were three events in September. two at Silvcrstone and one at RAF Odiham. Once again we were extremely lucky with the weather and enjoyed ihree more day5 of sunshine. At Stlver5tone we hosted ien riders over two days and at RAF Odiham we had four riders. At both events it was a 50150 mix of riders who were there for the first tim¢ and riders who had been before (although be it for some, about nine years ago). Due to peoples experience and function, there was a spread of ability in the riding. However all managed to circulate the coned area on their owm by the end of the days instruction. This gave them a huge boost in confidence and self-belief. which was readily apparent by the animated ¢onversations happening ai the end of the day.

The Bike Ex erienee review 202 Odiham began really well. but unfortunately due to an incident on the airfield which was totally separate lo what the charity was doing. the day came to end at lunchiirne rather than in the afternoon. The rider5 had quickly progressed on thai day, so all had experienced independent riding of the circuit laid out. VOLUNTEERS The volunteers did a fantastic job supporting and instructtng the riders. withoui them the days would not have happened. This year there was a plan to have the same volunteers come for all the events, and the charity managed to get four volunteers (in addition lo Talan and Dan) attend every instructional event, with a further four getting to at least five of the seven events. "lThis meanl the level of ditention to detail and competence of volunt¢¢rs remained extremely high. Most are aLready saying they will commit to next year's events well. DEMONSTRA TION EVENTS TBE ￿'aS present al two ev¢nls where we were able to engage with a larger audtence. There was a riding demonstralton at the Prescott Bike Festival (25th June) then a slatic display at ParallLI Windsor (2nd July). The Pre5COtt Bike Festival allowed Talan the opportunity to run the famous Prescoll Hill Climb, which 15 thL home of the Bugalli Club. Although jusl put on for one day, there was a large crowd and many chLered on as the charity founder launched from the start line lo ilimb the hill. As well as demonstraling. there was a lunchtime interview with Si¢ve Parrish, which allowed Talan to explain the adaptions to the bike and how the charity operates. Parallel Windsor was a static display and the team {led by Dan) was ablL' to explain the charily and hand out infornialion leallets. Wiihin days a numbL'r of people had already called lo book onto the instructional evenls. 2023 NI.JMBf.RS Riders - 32 places tsken up (Impairnients - Paraplegi& Tetraplegia. Leg Amputee.
