Report of the Trustees for the Year Ended 31[st] December 2022

Structure, Governance and Management

Governing Document

The charity is constituted as a Trust and its governing document is its Trust Deed dated 6[th] January 2011.

Appointment of Trustees

Trustees are selected and invited to join the Board of Trustees by existing Trustees and the appointment of Trustees is vested with the Trustees.

Objectives and Main Activities in Relation to the Objectives and the Public Benefit

The objectives of the charity are:

TO PROMOTE THE PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING OF DISABLED PEOPLE WHO WOULD OTHERWISE BE EXCLUDED BY ENABLING THEM TO ENJOY THE PLEASURES AND BENEFITS OF RIDING A MOTORCYCLE BY THE PROVISION OF ADAPTED AND MODIFIED MOTORCYCLES AND ADVICE IN A CLOSED ROAD ENVIRONMENT.

Core values of the charity are:

FREEDOM – Giving back the feelings of independence through riding a motorcycle, thereby empowering individuals with the right of choice and equality, so that they can experience the passion and emotions that riding brings.

ACHIEVEMENT – Showing people that you can achieve great things when you believe you can, that you have a huge resource of power, courage and bravery inside you, to make the impossible into the possible and improve self-confidence.

EVOLUTION - Bringing together able-bodied and disabled people so that the established boundaries are broken down and myths of disability are deconstructed on both sides, allowing everyone to ride together, side by side.

All activities are provided without cost to the individual wishing to participate in The Bike Experience programmed of instruction.

The Trustees confirm that they have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Commission’s General Guidance on Public Benefit when reviewing the Charity’s aim and objectives in planning future activity.

The Bike Experience review 2022

The Bike Experience did not run in 2022 due to the continued impact from the Covid-19 Global Pandemic.

The charity would like to thank all those who have supported the 2022 season, through financial contributions, maintenance of equipment, increased awareness, social media.

In order to generate income and enable us to move on from the impact of Covid-19 and put us on a secure footing to move forward, we have allocated resources to fundraising so that approaches can be made to trusts and foundations, wealthy individual and corporate.

The SV650 motorcycles were scrapped due to the deteriorating standard and the cost of getting them back into an operating state.

Looking ahead to 2023

Whilst there is a ‘return to events’ plan in place, the charity will have to wait for the pandemic and restrictions to ease before committing to a new season of instructing. Due to the nature of the riders, with many being classed as vulnerable due to their disability, there is a vital need to be careful and prudent about returning to events.

Due to the financial demands there will be a revision of client numbers per event. Whilst the charity needs adapted motorcycles and riding equipment to protect clients, the maximum number for each instructional event will be six (instead of nine).

A push will also be to recruit new regular instructors and launch crew, as a number of regular team members have left the areas the charity operates within and cannot provide their support.

Financial Review

Reserves Policy

In view of the limited income of the Trust, the Trustees keep reviewed the policy regarding the appropriate income reserves to meet the needs of the Charity. In the current circumstances of limited income flow, the Trustees approve available cash should be utilized to support its charitable aims and that cash reserves should be maintained at a minimal level to meet immediate foreseeable expenses. If income flow increases, then the reserve policy with be reviewed.
