REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31[ST] DECEMBER 2025
The trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31[st] December 2025. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standards applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective from 1[st] January 2019).
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Governing Document – the charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), which is registered with the Charity Commission, and is controlled and governed in accordance with its Constitution dated 29[th] December 2021. The Committee members are the trustees of the CIO and they collectively, or via a specific sub-committee, organise projects such as Winter Talks, Exhibitions, Research, Web Site, Trips to various locations and Dining Club.
OBJECTS
The object of the CIO is:
The promotion for the public benefit of the local heritage of Aberaeron and the surrounding district.
This objective is achieved through a range of activities to promote heritage and history across the whole of the community, encouraging as many people as possible to participate, celebrate and learn more about the area’s past, and linking it to life today.

SUMMARY OF ACTIVITIES DURING 2025
A series of talks were held during 2025 which covered the following topics:

The Hidden Archaeology of Ceredigion: Discovering cropmarks and lost monuments from the air;
-
Science and Scandal: A History of Policing in Cardiganshire;
-
The Remarkable Residents of Portland House, Aberaeron - Part 2: The Howells;
-
Was the Friedeberg one of Davy Jones’s decoy ducks?;
-
100 Years of the Memorial Hall, Aberaeron; and
-
Meirion Jones: His work, his art.
The Dining Club also met on six occasions during 2025, at various locations within Aberaeron, and everyone enjoyed their meals and the social gathering.
The Association also organises trips to various locations during the year. Four trips were organised – these were: (1) Llanerchaeron - behind the scene tour; (2) Drefach Woollen Mill and Museum; (3) Llanon Cottage Museum; and (4) Lampeter University - special collections department to see: (i) Illustrators of Wales; (ii) Early 16th - 18th maps including the first map of Wales; and (iii) items relating to Jane Austen’s birthday celebrations.
The Association continued to be actively involved during the earlier part of the year in campaigning to persuade Ceredigion County Council to retain Aberaeron Library at its current location. However, despite valiant efforts the Council decided to proceed to relocate the Library to the Council’s HQ at Penmorfa, which has now been completed.
The Association has during the year developed a partnership with Llanerchaeron National Trust which has enabled the Association to locate a display cabinet and display some of its materials in the Trust’s Billiard Room. It is hoped that this partnership will develop further and be of mutual benefit to both bodies.

The membership year commences with effect from 1[st] of September each year and runs until 31[st] August of the following year.
