The Hurstcote Charitable Foundation
Report of the Trustees
for the Year Ended 5 April 2025
The trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 5 April 2025. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and aims
The Hurstcote Charitable Foundation (working name: Forging Futures) was created in 2012 by Tom and Osha Hufton with the objects to: Benefit such registered charities or such charitable purposes and in such proportions and such manner and subject to such terms and conditions as the trustees in their absolute discretion think fit from time to time.
Over time, the Charity has evolved and now directly focuses its activities on training and supporting young people and adults, particularly those with learning disabilities and/or who are neurodivergent.
Our charitable programmes provide hands-on training, qualifications, supported work experience opportunities and supported internships all with the desired outcome of empowering individuals to develop the skills, confidence and connections needed for meaningful paid employment.
Public benefit
The Trustees confirm that they have had due regard to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit when reviewing the Charity's aims and objectives and planning future activities.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
Charitable activities
We have continued to grow and develop our programmes throughout 2024-2025 and remain dedicated to enhancing the lives of young people and adults with learning disabilities and/or who are neurodivergent. We focus on providing bespoke training and employment opportunities particularly within the coffee and hospitality industry.
Since piloting our first programme in October 2022, the Charity is delighted to have trained, supported and worked together with over 42 young people and adults.
Programme Delivery and Impact
During 2024-2025, the Charity continued to deliver its Cookie Projects and supported work experience programmes to students attending local Specialist Schools. Schools have shared that the programmes provide impact beyond coffee shop skills, teaching essential life skills such as confidence, teamwork, communication and social skills, which support students' transitions into further education and employment. All trainees reported that they would 100% recommend the programmes, highlighting the fun and pride in learning new skills and overcoming challenges. Trainees also shared that they felt more willing and able to seek employment. Families highlighted the personal growth and_ increased confidence they observed.
During the year, we also further developed and delivered our Bespoke Barista Skills Programme, with 10 students attending local specialist schools successfully gaining their SCA Barista Foundation qualifications.
In addition, Forging Futures delivered its first 10-month Supported Internship in partnership with our founding employer partner and a local specialist school. Feedback from the programme was excellent, particularly emphasising the positive impact it had on the trainee, his family and partner organisations.
2024-2025 Key Developments and Future Opportunities
-
Transition from an Unincorporated Foundation to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). Forging Futures was registered by the Charity Commission in February 2025, charity no. 1212304.
-
Development, transformation and build of our new Charity Training Hub - a dedicated, professional training space where all our programmes will be delivered, supporting future growth and increasing the number of participants we can train and support.
-
Securing funding for our new Employability Programme, an 11-week training programme that will be offered free of charge to trainees and will launch in September 2025.
Incorporation of the Charity
In February 2025, Forging Futures CIO (charity no. 1212304) was registered with the Charity Commission, enabling the charity to own property, employ staff and operate under limited liability.
The Trustees resolved that all assets and liabilities of the unincorporated Hurstcote Charitable Foundation will transfer to Forging Futures ClO. Once this process is complete, the unincorporated charity will be formally closed and removed from the Charities Register. At the year end, the transfer process was ongoing.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
Financial position

FINANCIAL REVIEW
Investment policy and objectives
Under the Trust Deed, the Charity may make investments deemed appropriate by the Trustees.
Reserves policy
The Trustees have adopted a reserves policy to ensure that the charity maintains sufficient financial stability to cover unforeseen expenses and future programme costs.
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Governing document
The charity is controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust and constitutes an unincorporated charity.
The Hurstcote Charitable Foundation is constituted under a trust deed dated 3 June 2011 and is a registered charity, number 1145372.
Recruitment and appointment of new trustees
Trustees are appointed in accordance with the charity's governing documents. New trustees are recruited based on their skills, experience, and passion for the charity's mission.
Organisational structure
The charity is governed by a Board of Trustees who are responsible for the strategic direction, policy, and financial oversight of the charity. The Board meets regularly to review the charity's activities and ensure that its objectives are being met. Operational Management While the charity is overseen by its Board of Trustees, the day-to-day running of our programmes and activities is carried out by one dedicated individual who is not a trustee. This person leads on planning and delivering programmes, working directly with partners and participants and supporting organisational growth. The trustees continue to provide guidance and oversight, meeting regularly to ensure the charity stays on track, remains financially responsible, and continues to meet its charitable aims.
Risk management
The trustees have considered the major risks to which the charity is exposed, particularly those related to its operations and finances, and have implemented systems to monitor and control these risks.
THANK YOU
We are extremely grateful to everyone who has supported Forging Futures during 2024-2025. Your support enables the Charity to continue to provide training, employment pathways and transformational opportunities to young people and adults with learning disabilities and/or who are neurodivergent. We are truly excited for the next phase of Forging Futures and recognise that this progress has only been made possible through the generous donations and continued support of individuals, organisations and our community.
