Trustees’ Annual Report and accounts: Salvation Clinic International Ministries (SCIM)

Aim and purposes

Salvation Clinic International Ministries (SCIM) has the responsibility of cooperating with the incumbent, the Reverend E.K Agyapong, in promoting the whole mission of the Church, pastoral, evangelistic, social and ecumenical.

Objectives and Activities

SCIM is committed to enabling as many people as possible to worship at our church and to become part of our parish community at Samuel Cody School. Our services and worship put faith into practice through prayer and scripture, music and sacrament.

When planning our activities for the year, the incumbent and SCIM have considered the Commission’s guidance on public benefit and, in particular,the specific guidance on charities for the advancement of religion. In particular, we try to enable ordinary people to live out their faith as part of our parish community through:

Worship and prayer; learning about the Gospel; and developing their knowledge and trust in Jesus. Provision of pastoral care for people living in the parish. Missionary, evangelism and outreach work.

Achievements and Performance

Worship and Prayer

In SCIM we are keen to offer a range of services during the week and over the course of the year that our community find both beneficial and spiritually fulfilling. For example, Friday evening prayers provide an environment for worship whilst opportunities are provided for people to engage in more outgoing worship such as that provided by the youth group within our parish.

This year we have been successful in welcoming more families into our church and have agreed a new style of Family Worship on the morning of the 3rd Sunday each month. It is called Jeans and T-shirt Sunday. Special arrangements have had to be made for baptisms and for welcoming the families at communion service worship on the 1st Sunday of each month. It is pleasing to be able to report that these arrangements are well received since they came into operation.

In addition, a great deal of time and thought was spent during the year on making best use of the new online services. Many have said how much easier it is to follow the services now that they are streamed live on the internet.

All are welcome to attend our regular services. At present there are 61 parishioners on the Church Electoral Roll, 4 of whom are not resident within the parish. Two names were added during the year and 1 was removed because they moved away from the parish. The average weekly attendance, counted during October, was 50, but this number increased at festivals.

As well as our regular services, we enable our community to celebrate and thank God at the milestones of the journey through life. Through baptism we thank God for the gift of life, in marriage public vows are exchanged with God’s blessing and through funeral services friends and family express their grief and give thanks for the life which is now complete in this world and to commend the person into God's keeping. We have celebrated 2 baptisms and 1 renewal of wedding vows and held 2 memorial services for parents of parishioners who passed away in their home countries overseas with funerals in our church.

Pastoral Care

The welfare team has visited members who were admitted at the hospital during the year. This included Bro Francis Appiah, Mrs Stevenson and Sis Anne-Marie who were visited by the Lead Pastor and the welfare team after they delivered baby boys respectively. Shopping and gifts were and donations were given to them on behalf of the church. Two house dedications were done thanking God for the gift of new homes and 4 car dedications.

Mission and Evangelism

The Mission and Evangelism Committee are to be congratulated for their efforts. They successfully conducted revival and outreach programs in the community and invited them to the annual Great Invitation program. Also they successfully organized the Christmas dinner and members of the community were invited .It was a time of fellowship with people of different cultures and races coming together within the community. One person from the church was successfully enrolled at the bible school in Anagkazo Bible Seminary to train as a youth minister.

Ecumenical Relationships

The church is a member of Ithxus Church Council and has been relating with the over 2000 churches that form part of it. Rev Penny of the Sheepfold Church in London was the guest speaker during the 2022 SCIM Whole Women’s Conference. This annual conference seeks to educate the women in all matters that affect the woman, socially, economically and psychologically. This year Dr Nan McLoughin from Glasgow was our guest speaker. The conference is opened to all in the community including non parishioners. This year we had an increase in attendance especially from the non members in the local community Every Monday Rev Coleen volunteers at the Triangle Café which is a Christian Café that also sells Christian resources and books. Two of our youths, Daniella and Kojo have also volunteered there as part of their work experience. The church youth group ,the Elijah group also participated in the cultural outdoor show organized by the deputy

mayor this summer. They were part of the mass choir. The Church also organized its annual sports day and invited members of the Pentecost church .Deeper Life church and it was a wonderful time .The food stand was popular as participants and spectators were treated to a cultural buffet from 6 different countries. These countries make up the ethic profile of the church.

Financial Review

Total receipts on unrestricted funds were £58576 for the 11 months to Nov 2023. Gift Aid will be claimed in due course.

£6828 was spent to provide the Christian ministry of missions, outreach and evangelism. £11,914 was spent on the overhead cost of running the office and mission base.

The net result for the period was an excess of receipts over payments of £7,194 on unrestricted funds Adding bank and deposit balances brought forward at the beginning of the period, the balances carried forward at 30[th] November on unrestricted funds totaled £12,923.

Reserves policy

It is policy to maintain a balance on unrestricted funds (if possible), which equates to at least three months unrestricted payments, equivalent to £15,000, to cover emergency situations that may arise from time to time. The balance of £12,923 held on unrestricted funds, after designations, at the year end did not match this target.

Volunteers

We would like to thank all the volunteers who work so hard to make our church the lively and vibrant community it is. In particular we want to mention our associate pastors Abraham and Senior Pastor Boafo, and Pastor Linda Renee, the resident Missionary Prophetess Coleen, and Elder Marfo who have worked so tirelessly on our behalf, Dr Rosemond who has helped us administratively, Bro Brown in the transport department and all the other volunteers for their valuable contribution to our ministry and for keeping the church running.

Structure, governance and management

The method of appointment of Church Board of Trustees(CBT) is set out in the Church Constitution. At SCIM the membership of the (CBT) consists of the incumbent (our lead Pastor), associate pastors, church administrator and ordained elders. All those who attend our services / members of the congregation are encouraged to register on the Electoral Roll and can be appointed to the CBM.

The CBM members are responsible for making decisions on all matters of general concern and importance to the parish including deciding how the funds of the CBM are to be spent.

The full CBT met 11 times during the period with 100% attendance. Given its wide responsibilities, the CBT has a number of committees each dealing with a particular aspect of parish life. These committees which include worship, mission, outreach, evangelism and welfare are all responsible to

the CBT and report back to it regularly with minutes of their deliberations being received by the full CBT and discussed as necessary.

Independent Examiner’s Report to the Church Board Trustees

I report on the accounts for the period ended 30[st] November 2023 which are set out on pages 4 to 6.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year (under section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 (the Act)) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

examine the accounts (under section 43 of the Act),

to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 43(7)(b) of the Act), and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of independent examiner’s report

My examination was carried out in accordance with General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

Independent examiner's statement

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

  1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the requirements:

  2. to keep accounting records in accordance with section 41 of the Act; and to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 1993 Act; have not been met; or

2. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached .
