Birmingham Youth Theatre Ltd Trustees Annual report 2024
Birn]ingh3m Youth Theatre was established in 1987 as an extension of the BMOS Adult theatre and it
is still flourishing over 35 years later. The Youth theatre was formed with the vision of providing
young people from the ages of io to 18 with the surroundings and a stage to develop actin& dancing
and singing skills as well as the opportunity for personal developmenL These principles continue to
this day and over the years we have seen many of our members, progre&s into professional careers in
the perforniing arts.
In most years The Company rehearses for and presents 2 prnfessionally produced and stsged shows.
generally a musical and a pantomime: for many years the shows were perfornied at the Old Rep
Theatre but the company resettled at the Crescent Theatre off Broad Street..................
Our income comes from. memberfs subscriptions tickets sales and sponsorship, supplemented by a
number of ad hoc donations and easy ￿ndraising. The main Sponsor is The Lillie C Johnson Charitable
Trust and we are indebted to them for their continuing support both in tern]s of sponsorship and
patronage of the shows. A number of Financial and commercial organisations provide funds based on
employee involvement and applications to internal ￿nds. e.g. Employer Matched Giving {e.g. The
Lloyds Foundation) as well as Asdi Tesco and TK MaxL Funding from lust Givin& Easy Fundraising
and various events throughout the year. have provided very useful additional income.
The Company receives tretnendous support from our members. members. families and friends, and
"business" partners.
In 2024 we staged two shows as nornial.. both of which were well attended and successfuL Turnover
from all sources for the year was just in excess of £53.000 an increase of £12000 on 2023, however,
show costs and other cost of sales increased in line and administration costs such as prints'n& website
and workshops increased in addition to which there were exceptional costs for storage following the
closure of 2 rehearsal venue. resulting in a deficit Members funds reduced from £12.352 to £9128
We staged Foodoose in early July to good reviews and are currently in rehearsal for the winter
pantomime.
There have been some changes in the Board of Trustees but the core remains the same, with all
members being people with a real passion for the development of the young people through the
performing arts.
