The evaluation report was extremely positive, confirming that the programme has a
profound impact on young people by enhancing their skills, confidence in their abili-
ties and resilience in facing life s challenges. Our staff and volunteer mentors were
also praised for being dedicated. enthusiastic and relatable, enabling them to
effectively guide and support the young people to reach their full potential.
The report has been published on the Youth Endowment Fund's website and forms
part of their Toolkit of research about what works to prevent youth violence. We are
very proud of this achievement and look forward to building on this momentum in
the coming year.
Another significant focus of our work has been supporting NEET (Not in Education.
Employment or Training) young people in our community.
The percentage of young people aged 16-24 who are NEET is currently estimated at
12 %. This has been a year-on-year increase since 2021 from 9.5% which is a concern-
ing trend. These young people are at a greater risk of negative outcomes. including
poor health. depression. and face greater barriers in entering the workforce the
longer they remain inactive.
Our Break the Cycle- Track to Success Project supports NEET young people in their
journey to increased life prospects and employability. We provide opportunities to
acquire practical skills and obtain City & Guilds qualifications to enhance their CVS,
which are recognised and valued in the job market. The young people also receive a
range of tailored support from our Employment Coach that includes CV writing, job
search and interview coaching.
Welcome to the 2023 Annual Report of YES Outdoors. As Chair.
it is my privilege to present this overview of our achievements
of the past year.
Our mission is to improve the lives of disadvantaged young
people in north London through a unique combination of chal-
lenging activities and mentoring support. This year has demon-
strated the incredible impact of this approach. as we have wit-
nessed remarkable transformations in the young people we
serve.
We are delighted that our project has successfully supported the hardest to reach
NEET young people to make an effective transition to further education, an appren-
ticeship or employment.
Our success this year a testament to the pas-
sion and expertise of our staff, volunteers and
Board of Trustees whose tireless efforts have
enabled us to make a lasting difference on the
lives of disadvantaged young people.
A key highlight of the year was the successful evaluation of our
CLIMB activity-based mentoring programme by Sheffield
Hallam University. The programme offers an array of enriching
experiences including rock climbing. bicycle maintenance
workshops, culminating in a memorable residential trip to
Wales. These activities are not just recreational,. they are care-
fully crafted to challenge participants and instil a sense of
accomplishment and self-assurance.
We are also grateful to our partners and donors,
whose steadfast support has been instrumental
in sustaining and developing our programmes
and initiatives.

Winter Care
Packages
Last winter, we were proud to deliver another successful winter care package
campaign. We gave out 300 packages and 1,000 hot water bottles to residents
in-need for which they were most grateful.
The care packages contain essential items such as non-perishable food, toilet-
ries. thermal coffee mugs, warm socks. as well as small decorations hand crafted
by local children. to give a personal touch. The campaign brings the local com-
munity together to make a difference. including young people. primary school
children, staff, and volunteers.

This year saw more of our staff
become qualified as Internal Quali-
ty Assurers (IQA'S), which supports
us to continue delivering the high-
est standard of City & Guilds quali-
fications.
In September, our CEO Tony Quinn was
invited to watch Arsenal play at the
Emirates stadium where he was proudly
presented with his No More Red jersey.
This was in recognition of his tireless
work to divert disadvantaged young
people away from knife crime and
youth violence.
We are delighted that our CLIMB Mentoring Project was a great success. Thirty
young people took part in 20 weekly sessions of indoor rock climbing. This was
followed by a 10-week bicycle maintenance course. The young people learnt how
to restore abandoned bicycles. one of which became theirs to keep. Throughout
the project, the young people received mentoring support from their personal
volunteer mentor.
The project culminated in a 5-day residential trip to The Outward Bound Trust in
Aberdovey, Wales. This was a great opportunity for the young people to put
their rock-climbing skills to good use to climb real mountains. The young people
enjoyed bein8 able to spend time with their friends in the great outdoors.
We will begin delivery of our next CLIMB project again in the Autumn and look
forward to supporting all the young people on their journey towards increased
life prospects.

Homework Club &
Education Support ;1
ICCES
We continue to deliver our successful Homework Club at the Thanet Youth and
Community Centre, Camden. Our Club has been running for five years and has
helped many young people to progress academically. We have helped students to
pass exams, successfully re-sit exams, and to achieve higher grades than they were
predicted and thought possible. We have also helped to increase their confidence
in difficult subjects and supported some to stay on into further education.

YES Outdoors was selected to participate at an event at House of Lords,
hosted by Youth Endowment Fund and The Sunday Times. where we were
recognised as being an important organisation in tackling youth violence.
We also had the pleasure to meet with National Youth Agency's CEO.
Leigh Middleton, to discuss ongoing youth work in the capital.
In addition to our homework club and targeted support sessions, YES Outdoors
also offers free 1.1 tailored CV support for any young person living in north London
through our online web-site. A young person simply needs to upload their CV via
the form on our site, and our specialist education and employability worker reviews
their CV and suggest improvements.
