Chalffs report- AGIA- 28 Plar¢h 2023
This reFort covers the period from 1 January to 31 De¢emL*r 2022 but also comments on a￿ts in eafty
2023. During Ihis time we welcomed Cass Cassds to ￿EMte[ship of the Committee.
We retumed to a full year of activities following a limited year due to Covid in 2021. However. the Over 60s party had
to be moved from January to March due to Covid arr¥)rvJst the helpers as cases remained in the community.
We had a packed year of events in an attempt to ra￿ valuable fvnds towards our develOpn￿nt schenE. In total we
made around £11k in year which, with fvnds on dep*)stL twnt we had around £40k fr)r the Jubilee Wng. Well done
to the Committee ￿￿MberS for all their hard work during the year to raise this significant aff￿￿nt.
David M has led in seeking estimates for ihe buikling works and we an￿1pate that the cost will be around £240k so
extemal ftjnding will be required to undertake the changes. Dav￿ atso researched the various funders available.
The Committee agreed to devebp the surrounding garden, particulaty the merrKJnal garden. The development and
changes to the garden will create a very attractive centre to the village.
Encouragingty, several events we arranged in 2022 drew audierKes from outside our imtrEdiate community eg Chris
Bannister concert, Fasttion Shu4V and AftemTr)n tea. and Murder Mystery evening. Sadly we had to cancel the
Valentine's meal in February due to the l¥k of interest
The regular events have continued in year induding the Community lunch. Numbers attending the lunch dipped a bit
but have picked up again in 2023. My grateful thanks go to the three teams who are catering for the lunches- all the
meals have been lovely and very well re￿ved. We again ran a 100 dub- this cor¢tinued to help with fund raising.
The draw has been retaunched for 2023124.
The usage report is attached and shows we have retumed to pr&CovMI usage levels. In year we increased the hire
charge from £9 to £10 for those residing in the Parish and from £14 to £15 for others.
The H&S sub group has conbnued to undertake the ne￿ ￿￿kS and I Ihank Marian and Dav￿ B for their efforts
on our behalf in keeping the hall safe for all users.
On the equipment front. we had to rep*e the krtchen hot water boiler. Wa were wwarded a Making a Difference fvnd
by Hambleton Distst Counal to improve our audio and IT equiprrEnL The new iiems were all purchased in eady
2023. We updated the lighting in the hall to provKle dimming facilities- very usefvl for speaker events et
We commenced an initsative wtth Snape Melhodtst Church to provide a weekly warm hub for anyone in the community
who wished to attend. These were supported financialty by NYCC, HDC, The MethcKtist Church, the Parish Council
and Broadacres raising in total £2.750 split *Joss the two organisations. An interesting programme of activities was
organised covering the ￿nI￿1 from November to March. Numters were small when this first started but grew to
around 25 for sorre aftemoons. These sessions. running from 12.30 to 4.30. offer. free of charge, a soup and bread
lun¢h, the vegetables provided by carr￿S, fr￿lowed by reguLar or S￿la1 activities. Fcod wrth a short shelf life was
provided by the Coop, Bedale. and distributed to those attending or INing in the vilkge. ￿ show8J a film at one of
the sessions and this was wdl receNed. There may be scope to consTrder film evenings in the fijture. Board games
also proved very popular and again may be sorrEthing to organtse for the fijture.
We issued rI￿s1etters throughout the Parish on Iwo crtxasions in 2022 using the Parish Newsletter to keep in touch
with the Community in be￿een. Wle were disapFointed when we were thised that the Par￿ Newsletter would end
in December 2022. Going fopward, we to ensure that we keep up a full and informative contact wth the
ommunty.
I don't underestimate the challenges 2023 ￿11 bring wilh the continuing cost of living rise5 for all and ts impa¢t this
will have on our funds anrj fundraising. We must tske all OPFM)rtunth"es we can to market and promote the hall to
engage with our local and wider community rfwe are to be abb to put in our future plans.
A huge thank you to the Committee Officers and Mem￿r$ for th￿r ￿ntinU&j supporL Lyn Le Cornu resigned from the
Committee a few months ago and we were very sorry to hear her go. We already know that Marian Mccarroll and
David Barnes. both actNe Committee member5 and our H&S swalists. will ￿e us at the AGM. Cass Cassells
resigned too due to him moving from Ihe village. are realty sory to see them all go and thank them
wholeheartedly for all their hard work for the Institute. lan Fiddler and John Vthite have joined the Committee in 2023
and we look forward to Working with them.
