ObJectfve8 and actlvltles
The Iru$l was sel up as the Welsh Georglan Trust in 2011 to preserve for the benefft of the people of Wales and
Ihe Welsh Marches and of the Nation, the historical, archllectural and constructional heritage that may exlsl in
and around Wales and the Welsh Marches in Georgian and PrfrGeorgSan bulldings (including any structure or
rection, and any part of a building a$ so defined) of partScJJlar beauty or ￿$toriCal, aichitectural or con$tructlonal
interest.
On 12th March 2020 thè narne wa$ ¢hange(I to Plos Gunter Mansion Trust cyf lo r￿ect the ftKus on the Plas
Gunter Mansion project. In January 2022, the Artlde8 of Assoclalion were revised and brought up to dale.

Dating largely from the 17th Century, Plas Gunter Mansion (37-39a Cross Street. Abergavènny) played a
pSvot81 role in the history of Catholicism in Wales and Is closely associated with Salnts David Lews and Phllip
Evans. 11 has long been recognised as being one of Ihe rnast important hlstoroc bulldings in Aberga￿)nY bul
had fallen into a perilous state.
The Trust bought the buildlng in 2017 for £150,000 with a mixture of grant and crowd funding. An architectural
and archaeological survey in 2018 funded by the Archrt¢rtural Heritage Fund and Heritsge Lottery Fund,
confirmed Ils significant historical and cuRural valuè and in 2019 the Trust submitted an Expression of Interest
to the renamed Nalonal Lottery Heritaga Fund.
Unfortunately. the onset of the CovKk19 pandemic hatted funding actlvty. but It had a130 b•come apparent that
the Tru$l's buslness plan lo develop a comprehensive project for the restoration and re-use of the bLFll*Jing was
not robust enough. The Iruslees successfully applied for grant8 to cary out som8 detalled business plannlng
and stakeholder consullalion from the National Lottery Herftage Fund 1£9,5001. Abergavenny Town Counc1(
1£2,500} the Architectural Heritsge Fund {£19,8001 under the proje¢t name, celebra￿ng Tolerance. The
Trust completed this work In April 2023 and subsequgntly submitted a full appllcafrjn to the National Lottery
Heritage Fund.
In Oecember 2023, the Nallonal Lottery Heritage Fund awarded the Trust a grant of up lo £222.340.
Income Is provided by the letting of three relall unlls on the ground floor.. 37. 38. and 39 Cross Street. Units 37
and 38 are successfully let to Moorings and Moor, trading 08 Dynamite Brandlng. and unit 39 is let to Amalsu
Massage. Both tenants renewed their leases for another tsvo years at tho beginnSng of 2022. Unil 39a is notlgt
and 1$ ￿cUpied by the Friends of Plas Gunter Mansion.

In December 2021 Ihe Manageme￿ company for Plas Kynaston. Plas Kynaston Management Company
Llmited, was transferred to the leaseholders. The freehold of the building is ￿11 owned by the Trust together
wilh an outstanding loan to Wrexham County Borough Coundl of £20,000. This is being repald at a rate of
£900 per annum untll 2028. when the expiry of a grant covenant (from th6 Cefn MavK Town8¢ape Herita5
Fund grant) whll allow tho sale of the freohold intere8t to provth funds for repayment.
