offers Sunday school for children of various
ages and holds Catechism classes every
Wednesday evening, open to all.
Additionally, Fr. John Petkov, our priest-in-
charge, actively visits local schools to
promote awareness of the Christian values
from the Orthodox perspective. Heritage
Days are particularly successful, attracting
many non-Orthodox people eager to learn
about Orthodoxy.
To combat poverty, sickness, and distress,
our Parish supports the local West
Cheshire Food Bank and participates in a
mission to aid children living in zinc houses
in Sierra Leone, initiated by Alexios
Gennaris, with the blessing of Archbishop
Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain.
Supporting local families and parishioners
in distress is a priority and we have
extended our assistance to Ukrainian
families fleeing the war in Ukraine.
Our Parish fosters social welfare and
fellowship by offering coffee and cookies
after our Sunday Liturgy as well as
organising social gatherings at other
suitable venues. We also arrange
pilgrimages to Holywell and St. Plegmund’s
Well, providing further opportunities to

In January 2023, Father Pancratios
Sanders retired and now serves as priest
emeritus, available for occasional services
and confessions. Fr Pancratios and
presbytera Anna’s service to the Parish has
been invaluable for its growth in the past 25
years. Their contribution in every aspect of
Parish life and constant support has been
tremendous and greatly appreciated. Fr
John Petkov has taken over as priest-in-
charge. His enthusiastic leadership has
been attracting more people to the Parish,
who were baptised, and now attending the| Divine Liturgy on a regular basis. His work on catechesis has been fostering a deeper understanding of God and the Orthodox faith, vital for the spiritual health of the Parish. We have now expanded our liturgical schedule to include more morning and evening services, promoting further spiritual growth as our parishioners meet and worship together more frequently. We have updated our safeguarding policy to align with the latest Archdiocesan guidelines, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our community members. In addition, we are in the process of updating our Sunday school curriculum to better serve our young parishioners. Our website has been revamped providing an enhanced online presence. It features the history of our Parish, information on services offered, news, catechism, contact details, and more: https://www.stbarbara.org.uk Our annual pilgrimage to Holywell has been a great success, drawing Orthodox pilgrims from Cheshire, Wales, and beyond. In addition to our regular Food Bank donations, our parishioners made a significant contribution of £1,200 to aid the victims of the February 6th, earthquake in Syria and Turkey.
