AGM – 1 Dec 2025
Chair’s Annual Report
Introduction to FOSS
-
FOSS is a registered charity whose aims are to raise funds for the good of all of the children of Slimbridge Primary School.
-
FOSS does this by holding fundraising events, applying for grants and accepting donations.
-
In terms of how FOSS is structured, it is governed by a constitution is a ‘friends of’ rather than a parent teacher association, meaning that the parents and carers of the school, including grandparents are all members and can vote and attend AGMs. The committee is made up of individuals voted in at the AGM to specific positions.
-
At today’s meeting I will report the events of the last years, Belle our Treasurer will report the last year’s finances and we will then vote on the committee for year 2025/26.
-
At the last AGM in September 2024, FOSS voted in the following trustees:
Emma Godding, as Chair
Belinda Gilbert, as Treasurer
Jo Purslowe, as Secretary
- Shortly after the AGM we held an EGM to vote in further committee members,

- The year in review
The first year of the new FOSS team has been successful and we have learnt a lot.
Grants
-
We started our first month with an application for a grant from the June Margaret Pavyer Will Trust for topics books. In October FOSS were awarded £2000 which has since been provided to the school for topic books.
-
During October 2024 FOSS applied for a grant of £18,975 from the Solar Fund which is administered by the Slimbridge Parish Council. That application was for the building of a new covered space outside of the Reception classroom. We were successful and awarded the full amount awarded in December.
Events
- In October we ran our first event – a Halloween movie night. The event was a success and the children enjoyed dressing up in spooky costumes and watching Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

In December we ran a Christmas Fair in the school grounds. Highlights included petting donkeys, a tombola, Elfridges toystore, crafts, Christmas movie, face glitter, a raffle, visit from Santa and a trail. We were supported by Natalie and Steve Guy who provided their food and coffee vans, and assisted with logistics.
-
We took provided refreshments at the various Christmas nativities and took donations for doing so.
-
We held a further movie night in May and had a huge number of children attend. We ran two screens and children could choose their film.
-
On Sports Day we drinks to parents who watched the children. We also attended the production provided refreshments at the production of Aladdin and parents gave generous donations.
-
In June we held a Summer Fete which took place on the recreation ground and cricket pavillion. The event was well attended and included a raffle, penalty shoot out and welly wanging competitions with prizes for the winners, face glitter and tattoos, crafts, a how many balloons in a tractors and a bar. We also held a fancy dress competition. Food, coffee and ice cream vans, and fairground rides were provided by Natalie and Steve Guy. Iron and Earth helped by sponsoring the fete.
-
In July we held a full school disco which was run by First Choice Discos and proved to be a hit with the children.
-
During the summer term we ran several treat fridays and sold ice lollies in the playground after school. This was particularly lucrative and very popular, probably in part due to the very hot summer we had.
Donations
- In addition to money obtained via grants and events, FOSS has also received donations of both equipments and food for events.
