The Trustees present their annual report together with the flnancial statements of the The Soclal
Work Awards Limited for the period l April 2024 to 31 March 2025. The Annual Report serves the
purposes of both a Trustees, Report and a Directors, Report under company law. The Trustees
confirm thatthe Annual Report and financlal statements ofthe charitable company comply wlth the
current statutory requirements, the requirements of the charltable company's governin8 document
and the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Practice ISORP} applicable to charities
preparlng their accounts In accordance wlth the Financial Reporting Standard applicable In the UK
and Republic of Ireland IFRS102} (effective l January 2019}.
Slnce the Company qualif ies as small under sectlon 382 of the Companies Act 2006, the Strateglc
report required of medlum and large companies under the Companles Act 2006 IStrate8lc Report
and Dlrectors'Reportl Regulatlons 2013 has been omitted.

The charlty was establlshed wlth the oblectlve of the rellef of poverty and the advancement for the
beneflt of the public, of educatlon In the Unlted Kingdom and by promotln8 and encouraglng hlgh
standards in soclal work.
The work carrled out has the following aims:
Glve recognltlon to the challengln8 work of quallfled soclal workers.
Promote best practlce In the profession and celebrate success.
Improve public understandlng of the range of work whlch soclal workers undertake.
Celebrate and promote diverslty and equal opportunltles In soclal work.
e. Artlvlties undertaken to achleve oblectlves
The Awards cycle Included managlng online appllcations, a serles of In-person and virtual judglng
events to promote a dlverse and incluslve Judgin8 panel, the organisation and delivery of Awards night
In London on 8 November and a special parllamentary receptlon for wlnners, sponsors and
stakeholders on 17 March 2025.
Effectlve media relatlons for the event reached substantial audience numbers through mainstream,
local, and sector media, advancing the charity's objectives to positively promote social work, soclal
workers, and best practices.
The charlty delivered a reduction in fin3ncial reserves following increasing delivery costs and reduced
sponsorship income and lower nomination numbers amid a challenging economic climate. Extra
effort is beingtaken to improve sponsorship uptake for2025 and to boost revenue throuEh increased
ticket prices for 2025 leveraging on the strong reputation that the Awards has built up over the years.

Achievements and performance
a. Main achlevements of the company
The main accompllshments for thls financial year were the delivery of an outstandinE event which
made social workers and soclal work teams feel valued and recoEnlsed and provided a platform for them
to share their best practlce. Following the success last year, the charity continued to diversify the volces
of the independent Judglng panel by Includlng young people with lived experlence.
Followlngfeedback from soclal workersandTrustees,the charlty introducedtwo newcategorles for2024:
Technology-Enabled Lives & Innovatlon in Practice; and Practitioner-Led Research Award
The British Assoclatlon of Social Workers IBASWI were headline sponsor thSs year, The charity also
continued to run the 'Thank You, sponsorship tler which allowed an entry polnt to sponsorshlp and
the Awards.
Thls year the Minister for Chlldren and Famllles, Janet Daby MP attended the Awards and spoke,
whlch received great reactlons from guests.
In recognltion of the challenglng flnanclal cllmate, the charlty malntained the offer to all flnallsts for
a f Ifty percent discount on the general admlsslon tlcket prlce, desplte rlslng suppller costs. This saw
an Increase In tlcket sa les and an increase In larger group bookln85, between 8-11 people from the
same organisatlon, compared to prevlous years.
The charity 8enerated 46 Stems of posStlve regional, natlonal and care sector medla coverage for the
Awards overall and stories of Its wlnners, whlch malntalned publlc Interest for several months
afterwards.
b. Key performance Indlcators
The charlty's core work Is to deliver on the charltable objectlves usln8 the mechanlsm of the Soclal
Worker of the Year Awards.
The Trustees conslder the key performance Indlcators to be:
Financlal Income from sponsorshlp and number of sponsors:
The charity generated £116,300 Income from 10 sponsors includlng introduclng a
Public Sector Sponsor (West Sussex County Council}. This was a fifty per centre
reductlon In the number of sponsors from 2023, with local authorities citing f inancial
crisls and wider economic issues as the main reason for not sponsoring this year.
While ticket sales had Increased, the lack of sponsorship meant the charity had to
use reserve funds for the 2024 event, which would not be an option for 2025.
Despite efforts to diversify sources of sponsorship and an intense period of actlvity
focused on sponsorship, there were seven categories not sponsored lat £9,950 each}
for 2024.

Cost savings were made where possible, for example not having a DJ and negotlatlng
prices with regular suppliers.
The Board agreed on the importance of securing early sponsorship for 2025. The
flnancial future of the Awards was dlscussed at len8th during the Trustees, annual
Away Day, where robust actions were agreed to save costs and increase income
overall. Thls Included a change of venue from London to Manchester as a cost-savlng
alternative.
The success of the event In terms of attendance and audlence feedback.
The event was well attended by 430 people, an Increase on 2023. In a post-event survey, 99
per cent of attendees rated the Awards 8ood/very good/excellent. Medla coverage and
soclal medla engagement achleved.
Media coverage reached 9,200,000 people, wlth 46 published artlcles and soclal
media achieved 336,143 Impressions through organlc posts on the Awards,
Twltterlx and Linkedln account5.
A dlverse and enga8ed Judglng panel, Includln8 volces wlth Ilved experlence, from across the
country.
The ludglng panel was comprlsed of 42 people and was made up of leadlng Industry
professionals withln the social work profession, previou5 Social Work Award wlnners
and those with Ilved experience of soclal work.
The headllne sponsor for 2024 was BASW UK. The Corporate Partner was Sanctuary Personnel.
The Category Sponsors were: London Boroughs of Rlchmond and Wandsworth, UNISON, Essex
County Council, West Midlands ADASS, Cafcass, Lancashlre and South Cumbrla NHS Foundatlon Trust
and West Sussex County Councll.
There was Just one thank you sponsor thls year: Gloucestershire County Councll.
PLMR Genesls, whlch provldes event management, PR, adminlstratlon and financlal servlces to the
charity, donated 41 days, whlch equated to £28,700 In the year.
c. Revlew of actlvlties
The event was successfully hosted by BBC journallst and presenter Ashley-john Baptlste, who is
hlmself care experienced and is well respected and liked by the Social work community.
Judging panel participation remalns strong and Increasingly representative of the dlverslty of social
work.
The charity has been able to facllltate medla Interviews for several of the gold winners which helps to
raise the positive profile of social work. The number of articles generated has increased year-on-year
and is testament to a detailed and personal approach from the PR agency who takes pride In
supporting the charity.
A well-attended parliamentary reception with representatives and guests from both sides of the
house, gave further recognition and positive promotion of the profession.

Golng concern
After maklnB appropriate enquirles, the Trustees have a reasonable expectatlon that the company
has adequate resources to contlnue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. For this
reason, they contlnue to adopt the going concern basis In preparing the financlal statements.

The trustees wlsh to maintaln a level of reserves for the mitlgation of rlsk.
Due to the current cllmate and challenges In securlng sponsorshlp, It has been a8reed that the
charlty needs to operate cautlously,
Structure• governance and management
Constltutlon
The Soclal Work Awards Llm Ited Is reglstered as a charltable company Ilmlted by guarantee and was
set up by a Memorandum of Assoclatlon.
b. Methods of appolntment or electlon of Trustees
The management of the company Is the responslbllity ofthe Trustees who are elected and co-opted
under the term5 of the Memorandum of Associatlon. The Trustees may at any time appolnt any
Indlvldual who is quallfied to be appolnted a5 a Trustee to fill a vacancy In theor number or a5 an
addltlonal Trustee.
The Trustees have agreed to a rolling recruitment of new Trustees. In the next 12 months, the
recruitment of a new Chalr wlll take place as Peter Hay CBE steps down.
Flnanclal rlsk Management
The Trustees have assessed the major risks to which the company is exposed. Partlcularly those
related to the operatlons and flna nces of the company and are satlsfied that systems and procedures
are In place to mitigate exposure to the major rlsks. This will contlnue to be reviewed at perlods
throughout the year.

The charity aims to contlnue to improve the reputation of the soclal work profession through
highli8htlng excellent social work practlce in Its annual Awards cycle, Awards nlght, and
Parliamentary Receptlon.
The charlty alms to contlnue the success of the Awards, repllcatlng Increased tlcket sales and
focussing all efforts towards securln8 previous levels of sponsorship to secure the Awards, flnancial
future.
In 2025, the headline sponsorshlp with remaln as BASW as per a three-year sponsorship
agreement.
Work to recrult a new Chalr Is already underway alongslde a rollin8 recrultment of new Trustees,
being mlndful of dlversity and needing to reflect the soclal work communlty.
Whlle 2024 was the most challenBlng year to date for the charlty, due to wlder economlc Issues
affectlng sponsorshlp, the Board of Trustees agreed on the Importance of securlng early sponsorshlp
and las of February 2025} actlvlty had already begun to seek Interest,
The 2025 Awards wlll also beneflt from a comprehenslve marketlng plan, In addltlon to prevlous
marketin8 actions, to promote the charlty and sponsorshlp opportunltles whlle utlllsing the
Trustees, essentlal network of contacts.

Street, Ipswich, IPI IUR.

2.1 Bas15 of preparatlon of financlal Statements
The financial statements have been prepared In accordance wlth the Charltles SORP
IFRS 1021 Accountin8 and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended
Practlce applicable to charities preparing thelr accounts In accordance wlth the
Flnanclal Reportin8 Standard applicable In the UK and Republlc of Ireland {FRS 102}
leffectlve l January 2015}, the Flnanclal Reporting Standard applicable In the UK and
Republlc of Ireland IFRS 102) and the Companles Act 2006. The Trustees have
reasonable expectation that the company has adequate resources to contlnue in
operatlonal exlstence for the foreseeable future, therefore the accounts have been
prepared on a golng concern basls.

102. Assets and Ilabllltles are Inltlally recognised at hlstorical cost or transaction value

2.2 Income
All Income is recognlsed once the company has entltlement to the Income, It Is probable
that the Income will be recelved and the amount of Income recelvable can be measured
rellably.
2.3 Expendlture
Expendlture is recognlsed once there is a legal or constructlve obligatlon to transfer
economic benefit to a thlrd party, it is probable that a transfer of economic benef its will
be requlred in settlement and the amount of the obligatlon can be measured reliablv.
Expendlture is classlfled by activity. The costs of each activity are made up of the total
of dlrect costs and shared costs, Includlng support costs Involved In undertaking each
actlvlty. Direct costs attributable to a single activity are allocated directly to that activitv.
Shared costs which contribute to more than one actlvity and support costs which are
not attributable to a sin8le actlvlty are apportioned between those actlvlties on a basls
conslstent with the use of resources. Central staff costs are allocated on the basis of
time spent, and depreciation charges allocated on the portion of the asset's use.
Expenditure on raising funds includes all expenditure Incurred by the company to raise
funds for its charitable purposes and includes costs of all fundraisin8 activities events
and non-charitable trading.
Expenditure on charitable activities is incurred on directly undertaking the activities
which furtherthe company's objectives, as well as anyassociated support costs.

2.4 Debtors
Trade and other debtors are recognised at the settlement amount after any trade
dlscount offered. Prepayments are valued at the amount prepaid net of any trade
discounts due.
2.5 Cash at bank and In hand
Cash at bank and in hand Includes cash and short-term highly liquld investments with a
short maturity of three months or less from the date of acquisltion or openlng of the
deposit or simllar account.
2.6 Llabllltles and provlslons
Llabllltles are recognised when there Is an obllgatlon at the Balance sheet date as a
result of a past event, It Is probable that a transfer of economic beneflt wlll be requlred
In settlement, and the amount of the settlement can be estimated rellably.
Llabllltles are recognlsed at the amount that the company antlclpates It wlll pay to settle
the debt or the amount It has received a5 advanced payments for the goods or servlces
It must provlde.
Provisions are measured at the best estlmate of the amounts requlred to settle the
obligatlon. Where the effect of the tlme value of money Is materlal, the provlslon Is
based on the present value of those amounts, discounted at the pre.tax dlscount rate
that reflects the rlsks specific to the liabllity. The unwindlng of the dSscount Is recognised
In the Statement of Flnanclal Actlvities as a flnance cost.
2.7 Flnanclal Instruments
The company only has flnancl31 assets and flnanclal Ilablllties of a kind that qualify as
baslc financlal Instruments. Baslc flna ncial Instruments are Inltially recognised at
transactlon value and subsequently measured at thelr settlement value with the
exception of bank loans whlch are subsequently measured at amortlsed cost using the
effective Interest method.
2.8 Fund accountlng
General funds are unrestricted funds which are avallable for use at the discretion of the
Trustees In furtherance of the general objectives of the company and whlch have not
been deslBnated for other purposes,
