## **Objectives and activities**

The Objectives of the Band are –

a) To advance, improve, develop and maintain public education in, and appreciation of, the art and science of music in all its aspects by any means the trustees see fit, including through the presentation of public concerts and recitals.

b) To further such charitable purpose or purposes as the trustees in their absolute discretion shall think fit but in particular through the making of grants and donations.

## **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objectives**

The key activities of the year have been to support the objectives of the band through the fostering and facilitation of the musical aspirations of Verwood Concert Brass (VCB) members and to further their musical advancement, by providing musical entertainment for others, participating in and promoting musical activities including concerts and contests and collecting money on behalf of designated charities and participating in other additional activities for the purposes of public benefit.

2021 continued to be difficult for the band with the Worldwide pandemic placing continued restrictions. The normal key activities of the year have been greatly limited making it challenging to support the objectives of Verwood Concert Brass (VCB) to facilitate the musical aspirations of its members. However, a Brass on the Grass outdoor concert, two Hub concerts, two contests and one coffee morning took place towards the end of the year and the band were able to get back out playing carols in the community in the run up to Christmas.

## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

Unfortunately, the Pandemic meant the band was not able to actively support the community during the first half of 2021. VCB would normally play a key role in the Verwood Carnival Parade, but sadly this was cancelled for the second year running, but the band were able to support The Rotary Club's Rustic Fayre, the Remembrance Sunday Service and Parade and Ferret Green Christmas Extravaganza.

The preservation of the tradition and heritage of Brass Banding is a key aim of the Trustees. Brass Band contests are an important way to uphold this tradition. Verwood Training Band would normally compete in the Wessex Training Band Contest in Downton in January but this contest was cancelled due to the pandemic. Both the Principal and Town Band would normally compete at the National Brass Band Championships West of England Regional Finals held in Torquay in March, however this was also cancelled due to the pandemic. However, the Wychavon Entertainments Contest and the Wessex Brass Band Association contest were able to go ahead in 2021.
