Recruitment and appointmgnt of trustees
Th8 Directors of Gladstone Village Hall Itha corporate trustee of ils registered charity) are appointed for
a 3 year period, bul can be reappointed by the Members. Each year the Members considef the
composition of the Board and approve new Directors where any vacancies arise due to additional need
or as a result of a retiring Director not wishing to be reappointed.
Membeis are tho$¢ individuals who are the guarantors of the Company wh￿h is limited by guarantee,
as this type of company does not have shareholders.
The Trustèes work closely with the Gladstonevillage Hall Management Committee, which is reSponsi￿e
for day to day managèment ol the charity.
Objectives and actlvlties
The objects ol the charity are to further or benefit the residents of the parishes as at 1925 01 Burton and
Puddington and at the discretion of the members from time lo time such other distri¢ts the members
shall deem appropiiale. without distinclion of sex, sexual orienlalion. lace. disability or of politieal,
rèligious or other opinions by associating together the said residents and the local authorities, voluntary
and other organisation5 in a common effort to advance education and to pr¢vide facilities in the interests
of social welfare lor recreation or other leisure time occup31ion with the objective of improving the
conditions of life for the residents.
Wè have refèrred lo the guidance contained in the Charity Commission's general guidance on public
benefrt when reviewing our aims and objecb'ves and in planning our fulure acty"vrtie5.
Achievements and performance
ThÈ chanty has achieved ils objective of providing varied social, lèisure & community-based activities
3nd support to the local residents.
During 2025 wé havè seen a modest fall in room hire, bul this has been compensated forby an increased
gift aid frorN our 100% subsidiary. Despite a reduction in our own event surpluse5 that gift aid increased,
due to more frequent bar opening and its higher margin turnover. Our sports club membership l¢lal rose
by 23 to 187. We have continued to repair and moderni5e throughout the yeai and have seen a fall in
sumrner usage of third party electricity due to our solar panel system. We are howevei v8ry much
8ffècled by oil and waterlwaste Gosls which continue lo inGreasa and which we have little control over.
particularly heatin9 C051s given the aged Inlraslructure of our Village Hall buildings. Given this il is
pleasing10 See that we achieved an overall surplus of £6,489 in the yèar, which is £1,563 excluding one
off donations.
The operating surplus this year is due to the hard work of 8 $mall core group of volunteers both in fronl
of and behind thè scenes., their year-round dedication and energy is to be applauded. In the year a site
maintenance volunteer group was forrned, whose valuable year round efforts included an exterior
repaint of the village ha11. Without all of them and our 3 part tirne employees the charty. which operates
the only community leisuie space in Burton, would not be sustainable.
The review of our future property & running cost slrategy which began in 2024 is vrfcal lo our plan for
refurbishment and modernisation over the coming years. This wll require a number of fundraising
campaign5 a5 the cost of the required capltal oxpenditure 15 significant and cannot be financèd from
reserves alone.
Looking ahead into 2026, the Trustees and the Gladstone Village Hall Management Committee a
aiming to produce a 5 Year Plan. Its ensure that there is a foGLJS to besl meelthe needs ol the community.
