Descrlption, Aims and Objectives
The cl)drily takes Its name from the Kiswabili word 'Tumaini" meanlng Hope" It aims to
Ca￿ for AJDS widows and orphans fin the Regions of Kagera and Lweru in Northwest
Trnzanla (thought to number 200,000) by in]proviDg basic kivlng and health conditions and
provlding fundlng for their educatioDal needs.

Organi8ation and Management
Thmainl UK is organlsed and managed by a Board of Thstees, who meet at least three tthies
a ye￿, and operational units in TOj￿an]a. It is one of several such charides, which support the
work of The Turnajnl Fund in Tanzania.
liunalnl Tanzanfia Is managed by the Cornmittee of The Turnainl Fund, a registered charity in
Guernsey) Channel Islands. and compIises teams of social workers in the offices at
Murgwanza (near Ngara, Kagera), Chato (Kagera, near Lake Victorta), MLdeba (Lweru) and
Kayanga (dlstrict of Karagwe, Lwenj); they fin turn manage a network of fteldworkers
throughout the Dioceses of Kagera and Lweru respectively. AJI community work is
conducied In Conjunction wfith the Diocesan SecrtarAes with the final oveTslght by the
Anglican Bishops of the Dioceses.
Funding
The Thmainl Fund Is funded through voluntary donations amd long-lenn sponsorship raised
principally In Guernsey, USA, Canada, UK Scotland and New Zeala])(L In addition, it has
recelved support for specific capiial projects from the States of GuerDsey Overseas Ald
cOmll￿￿ee, other charftable tsvsts and from Indivldual donors.

ts locaied at Busbara Cottage, Honon Hlll. Honon. BS37 6QN. Thmaini UK is a cbarlty
regISte￿d with the Charlties Commfission of the Unlted Kfingdom (no. 1143833) and Its
banke￿ are Barclays Bank plc in Bristol.

Trmolnl UK* sole purpose Is to rajse awareness and funds to help the most vulnerable in the
Kagera Reglon of Tanzanla. Tan&￿la is one the ten poorest nations in the world and this
rernoie region has been particularly affeckd by the AtDS epidemic that spread through the
reglon 20 years ago sn the wake of the unrest and rehjgee crisis in neighbouring Rwanda
BUrL￿dI and Uganda. This meani that though a peaC￿l0vIng Country, a generation of
Tan2anlans In Ihts rural area were affected leaving nearly 200,00 dlildren who have lost one
or both of thelr parents.

Ilmtsini UK has therefore been raising money to send to Tanzania to enable these 0￿han5 to
be supw)rted in their conmnunity care. shelter. dothiDg. fo￿. bealth ptoducts and the
opportuniry to go to school. and for some, comple(e higher education or receive eLupIoyEnent
sk￿S and training. Sponsorship is offered based on need assessed by village workers wit
their communlues, wlthout prejudice based on tribe. disability or religion.

have audited the fiiiancial statements of Tumaini UK for the year ended 31 December 2020
,liich coniprise the Receipts and Payments Account and Balance Sheet and the related notes
("the Financial Statements.). These Financial Statements have been prepared under the
accounting policies set out therein.
This report is made solely to the Trustees. My audit work has been undertaken so that I might
state to the Trustees those matters I am required to state to them in an auditor's report and for
no other purpose. To the fullest extent pennitted by law, J do not accept or assume
responsibility to anyone other than the charity &nd its Trustees for my audit work, for this
report, or for the opinions I have fonned.
Respective responsibilities of the Trustees and the auditor
The Trustees are responsible for preparing the Financial Statements in accordance with United
Kingdom Generally Accept¢d Accounting Practice.
My responsibility IS to audit the Financial Statements in accordance with United Kingdom
Generally Accepted Accounting Practice. I report to you Iny opinion as to whether the financial
statements give a true and fair view and are properly prepared in accordance with Unit¢d
Kingdom Generally Accepted Accouniing Practice. l also report to you if, in my opinion, the
charity has not kept proper accounting records, or if I have not received all the information and
explanations I require for my audit.
Basis of audit opinion
I conducted the audit in accordance with Intemational Standards on Auditing (UK and Ireland)
issued by the Auditing Practices Board. An audit includes examination, on a test basis, of
evidence relevant to the amounts and disclosures in the financial statements. It also includes
an assessment of the significant estimates and judgements made in the preparation of the
Financial Statements, and of whether the accounting policies are appropriate to the charity's
circumstances, consistently applied and adequately disclosed.
I planned and perfom]¢d my audit so as to obtain all the infomiation and explanations which I
c£)nsidered necessary in order to provide me with sufficient evidence to give reasonable
&ssurance that the financial statements are free from material misstatement, whether caused by
fraud or oiher irregularity or error. In forming my opinion, l also evaluated the overall
adequacy of the presentation of information in the Financial Statements.
Opinion
In my opinion the financial Statements give a trlie and fair view, in accordance with United
Kingdom General ly Accepted Accounting Practice, of the charity's State of affairs of the
