Objectives and Activities
| SORP reference | ||
|---|---|---|
| Summary of the purposes of the charity as set out in its governing document |
Para 1.17 | The Charity’s objectives are: a) to promote the education and training of the public in the playing of brass instruments and their appreciation of brass band music, b) to encourage public appreciation and understanding of brass band music, and c) to stimulate interest in the art of the Brass Band for the benefit of the public generally, and especially in the district of Cadishead and its localities, by the presentation of concerts, performances and other activities as the Trustees shall determine. |
| Summary of the main activities in relation to those purposes for the public benefit, in particular, the activities, projects or services identified in the accounts. |
Para 1.17 and 1.19 |
The Band Trustees have examined the guidance issued by the Charity Commission and found that our activities and objectives fall in line with the guidance and the contents of the Commissions Documents. As a village Brass Band there are many ways we can benefit the Public and local associations, churches etc. We have produced a very amenable Band Room and it is used by several music groups, the District Bereavement Group, Mothers and Toddlers Groups, Community Meetings with the local police, local and national voting station for elections. |
| Once a month we run a Film Club which is well attended, mainly by local pensioners, who enjoy the camaraderie and safety they find in the Hall. One evening was for a donation to the Breast Cancer Research Charity, We organise charity events supporting, for example, the Macmillan Coffee Morning event and welcome local charities who run events such as Garage Sales and Book sales. We have given concerts in three local churches in aid of their funds. During this year, the Band developed our Training Band and invited anyone interested to join. This initiative was to increase membership, improve our footprint in the district and to spread the benefits that music and playing music can give to individuals. We continued to offer musical tuition to learners and experienced players. The age range of this group ranges from 7 to 82. Over £2800 was spent on tuition fees and equipment for the Training Band. Our objective is to have twenty- five mainly young players in the Training Band by the end of 2025. We lead the local parade on Remembrance Sunday, as the Band has done for at least the last fifty years. At Christmas, we go into all the Care Homes in the district to play several carols for them and to bring a little Christmas cheer. Naturally, doing all this we incur costs and have to produce income to cover these costs. Our Christmas Busking was very successful thanks to the generosity of our local public. The combined total income from engagements, concerts and Christmas busking was £6268. |

Para 1.38 | The Band is very reliant on support from the people of the district and from the Cadishead Public Band Supporters Group. Although the latter are not formally part of the Band, having their own committee and organisational structure, they do provide support at concerts, attend all our activities and organise fund raising events, the proceeds of which are spent on providing equipment or uniform items for the Band. Their help is appreciated by all members and they form an important part of the musical environment within the locality of Cadishead and Irlam. |

Para 1.20 | The Band continues to entertain our public, but at the same time ensuring that the Band is in a sound financial state. As a consequence, our activities are normally fee paying with the exception of attendance at funerals, playing in local care homes and for fund raising events eg at local churches. The church concerts are always well attended and well received especially by the priest/vicar who needs funds to keep his church open. As stated above, the Band Room houses several clubs and societies and have a waiting list of tenants, due to it offering a comfortable and safe environment, especially to the older members of society. The Band Room is also used by a young rock group and a more experienced musical group. All our performances are well attended and enjoyed, providing a good musical experience. |
