## Bird Aid Trustee Annual Report For the Year Ended 31 December 2024 ## Introduction This Trustee Annual Report has been prepared for Bird Aid to outline our activities, achievements, financial position, and governance during the year ended 31 December 2024. Bird Aid is committed to the Leaning disabled and autistic adult support activities including the rehabilitation, and release of Gulls, as well as to the education of the public regarding avian welfare and conservation. ## Charity Details |**Charity Name**|Eastbourne Bird Aid CIO| |---|---| |**Registered Charity Number**|1143728| ||| ||| ## Objectives and Activities Bird Aid’s primary objectives are: Written in our constitution we have to defined objectives but as a simplified statement, we support learning disabled and autistic adults without an adult social care service in our retail, hospitality and animal welfare activities. Over the Years our animal welfare site has become international known for the care and rehabilitation of Gulls. ## Achievements and Performance During 2024, Bird Aid has continued to expand its operations and strengthen its impact. Key achievements include: We now own the animal welfare site Isolation facilities have been improved to deal with the impact of avian flu. Selected users, funded by the Lawson Trust had a suburb, self catering respite break to the Isle of Wight. A full site inspection has revealed the facilities are reaching the end of the working lift and have become compromised by predators. This has meant immediate closure of those facilities until funding can be raised to rebuild with enhanced predator proofing. A full rebuilding plan has been formulated. This plan will be executed when funds are available. Until that time admissions with be limited. We received funding from the national Lottery for part time support workers, which meant we could offer more users supported activities We also had unrestricted funding for the Peoples Postcode Trust, with was a great help with core costs. • . ## Financial Review Bird Aid relies on grants, donations, fundraising events, and the dedication of our volunteers. In 2024, total income was £114919, with expenditure of £94027, resulting in a net surplus/deficit of £20982. Key sources of income included: - Individual donations - Charitable grants - Fundraising events Expenditure was allocated as follows: - Veterinary care and medical supplies - Facility maintenance and improvement - Educational outreach and materials - Operational costs (rent,utilities, insurance, etc.) ## Governance and Management The Board of Trustees met regularly throughout the year to oversee the charity’s strategic direction, financial management, and compliance with statutory requirements. No major governance issues were identified. The charity complies with all relevant UK charity regulations and best practice guidelines. ## Plans for the Coming Year Bird Aid’s priorities for 2025 include: - Maintaining our rescue and rehabilitation capacity through improved facilities. - Developing our user engagement and training programmes. - Developing new partnerships with animal rescue groups that align with our Values - Securing additional funding to support our core activities. - Continuing to monitor and improve governance and operational procedures. ## Statement of Trustees' Responsibilities The trustees are responsible for preparing the Annual Report and Financial Statements in accordance with applicable law and regulations.. ## Thank You Bird Aid wishes to thank all volunteers, supporters, donors, and partners for their invaluable support throughout the year. I have reviewed the accounting records kept by the charity and made a comparison of the financial statements presented with those records and considered any unusual items or disclosures in the financial statements, seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the financial statements present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below. ## **Independent examiner’s statement** Since your charity's gross income did not exceed £250,000 your examiner is not required to be a member of a listed body. I can confirm that I am qualified to undertake the examination because I am a certified accounted registered with AAT. I have completed my examination and can confirm that no matters have come to my attention: - (1) which give me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements: - to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and • to prepare financial statements which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting records of the 2011 Act have not been met I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
