2022 was another record￿reakIng year for the Foundath)n.' we granted more than £239,000 supporting ovef
150 good cause5. taking our gNiThJ to over £820.000 since the Foundation began.
2022 was a pwolal year for us. Not only dKI V￿ have our bKJgesl year ol giwng so far. we also undertook a
review of our strategy. which saw us set out a strong vision for the fulure and secure an incredibly generous
commilm@nl from thè John Good Group for a ￿0rd ￿Ve1 of funding over the next three years.
As well as continuing to support the John Gocd Group Charitab￿ giving programmes, the increas8 in
funding from the John Good Group means the FoundatK*n can also focus on amplifying the voices of small
charities and pr￿ecIS by provhJirvJ unrestricted grants and helpi￿ lo share Iheir slofies th¥ough the power of
film.
Our vision lo ampltfy small charities and g￿K1 cause5 a150 resonated wrth members of the public who
generousty Chose to donate funds to the foundation, safe in the knOw￿dge that 100'A of their donation woukl go
direct￿ lo supporting a diverse range of small charrtEs arKI ￿ causes.
Despite the challenging environment of the ksl years. we are delighted that 2022 was another successful
year. With a clear vision for the future. we're exuted for what's to come. To support us wth our plans, we were
delighted lo recruit kn employees to the FoundatKJn Team w￿) a￿ al￿adY helping us achieve our goals.
With the maiorty of our gr8nt-making a￿1 all opetating costs beirvJ funded by the John Good Group, in
November last year, we were delighted that throLwJh the work ol the Foundation. the John Good Group was
recognised for ils social impact, winning the Best Social Imp* Awaid al the Yorkshire and Humberside Family
Business Awards.

We know that new, Small, and local charrties are often able to make a huge imp&t with 8 small grant, bul many
are currently going under the radar of the ftjnding organisations Ihey need help from. This desire lo fill the
funding gap for smaller charilies is why we started our 'amplify fund. lo help target giving where il makes the
most impact.
- Empowering busIne￿S and indNiduals
We weie created by the Gc*)J Famity and their family busine￿. John G¢xKI Group. Through our nelworks.
we've learned that 50 many businesses and indNiduaL8 have a desire to make a difference by supporting high-
impact charilEs in their communities
but do not have the connections, resou￿ or experience lo be abl8 to
confidenlty act on it. So. as well as supporting John G￿xI Group in rt5 charf(able giving endeavours, we are
delighted lo invite other like-minded businesses and individuals lo work vnth us to help them meet their unique
goals. building a powerful philanthrop￿ community capable of aMplI￿ng more small chalilies.

We design and man￿e ftJndin9 programmes that invite small charitable organisations lo apply lo us for grants
which are funded by our partner businesses or indivKlual philanlhropisls. Our programmes arg our unique way
of connecting organisations Ihal are doing amazirvJ work in our communilies. with people and businesses that
want to make a meaningful 5LKial impxt.
Charrtable organisalions can expect lo work with a FoundatK)n that undetslands their ne￿IS and helps them find

grants ranging from £1.0(M)10 £3,500.
In addition, we managed John Good Group's employee givin9 pfografflme which empowers employees lo
support charities c105e lo their hearts through a range of applKalion type5 Such a5 tripling the impa¢l of
employee fundraisin9, doubling the impact of charitable donation5 and champion grants for small local charities.
- Amplify Charity Giants
We provide funding to selected small Charitab￿ organisations that need longer-lerm unrestricted support with
the core costs vital to running their oiganisalion, funds which are harder to find in the funding sector. Funds are
aimed al organisations that meet the Foundation's target sustainab￿ Devekjpmenl Goals. Grants made in 2022
included", £10,000 lo Calzero, £10.000 to Downr￿jh1 Special, £10,000 lo Reef Wodd Foundat￿)n. £14.500 10
Mires Beck Nursery, £2,000 lo The Junction Community Project arKI £10,000 lo the Tropical Biology
Foundation.
- Amplfy Charty Film$
Often. charitable organisalions are not just dealiTrJ wrth a funding gap. also with an expertise gap when il
Comes lo communicating their cause lo a wide audienca. As a foundation that has very c105e connections lo the
businèss world, this is something we have often found we are able to help fund and cc(srdinale. and so our
Gharty film offering has grown naturally as we worke(I with rnore organisalhjns who we could see would benefit
from this type of help. In 2022. we funded Ihe foll¢y•ving charity films.. Somersel Wildlands. Inga Foundation,
Harry s HAT and Downright Special.
- Employee Voluntaering
Socialty aware businesses often offer their empbyees paKI lime off to volunteer, prowding charities with
valuable iabour resource, and helping empk)yees gain the eXpe￿en￿ and personal benefits of helping local
causes meanirvJful to Ihem.
We provKle volunteèring programmes lo help chaiitie5 access volunteers ar8 empk)yees of our partner
businesses. Corporate volunteering days can be a great way for charities to find a new demographic of
volunteers, get help wilh18rge tasks. or even find a skilled volunteer for a spectfic type of work.
The Trustees are delighted with the Performan￿ of our programmes during 2022 as well as the awarding of
nreslricted funds to several small Charities and look forward lo devekjping these initiatives further in the future.

Over the years, we're proud lo see that charitable donation5 have risen from a modest £2,000 in 2012 to more
than £239,000 in 2022. We have granted more than É820.OCKJ to good causes since we were founded. Funding
from the John GCMXI Group has made this possible. and we're incredibty gratefvl lo everyone who helped make
Tim and Matthew's vis*)n a realty.
Now with a generous commitin8nl from the John GO￿ Group lo increase funding. we're incredibly excited lo be
able lo take our giving lo the next level. OUT grants wtll increase as we focus on elevating small charities
alongside our existing aclivilies, engaging directty wth charitable organisalions lo help them reach their full
polenlial. Through the many good causes we've supported since 2011. bve've discovered how difficult it Can be
for ne￿ created and small charitEs and projects lo secure funding. And through our grassroots projeGts. we
have collaborated with several charities lo produce high-qualty films that help them tell their stories.
A small grant can considerabty impad a small charity or project. And the power of storytelling through film
allows charities to connect bwth Iheir audiences, e<lu¢ate them about their mission and gain much needed
support to help them achieve their goa15. Focusing our efforts on small charities and projects by providing
unreslricled funding andlor proclucing professional chanty films is a natural slep for the Foundation as we look
lo maximise the impact of our funds.
Looking ahead. in 2023. you can expect lo s80 the lollowing..
Increase in Grants for Good Funding.. Increase in Grants for C(od Funding Due lo the first year's success,
in 2023. we'll be increasing the Grants for GOCKI fund to £60.[￿0. which will see £15.000 shared between
five good causes every three rrv)nlhs.
Dedicated Films Fundin9'. We'll be helping create more films for charti.es through a dedicated Amplrfy
Charity Films Fund.
New website." We'll be creating a new web5rte ar￿ refreshing our branding so that we clearty communicat&
what we do and how we support the mn-profit sector.
Reporting our impact." We'll devek)p ouf le￿rting capabilty on our grants and acliwlies impact the
charities they support and their bener￿larieS.
Helping others ￿nnect with small ¢harilies". We'll devek)p our abilty lo support other businesses and
philanthropists to connect with and supw)rt small chariti'egJproje¢ts.
Public benefit confirmation

a. Going Concern
After making appropri*e enquiries, the tnjstees have a reasonable expectat*)n that the charity has adequate
resources to continue in Operat￿)nal existence for the foreseeable future. For this reason they wnlinue lo adopt
the going Co￿rn basis in preparing the financial statements.
b. Investmont policy
Surplus fvnds that may from time to lime be availab￿ are invested in a bank ￿pOSitS ￿cOUnt.
. Reserves
Reserves. wh￿h comprise cash deposits, will be maintsined al a level suificient to cover the expected future
levels ol committed charrtable experidiiure. The In151ee5 de5vJnated an earmarked fund of £97,427 for medical
research into the medical prxtice and treatment of illnesses commonty found during marathons and other
similar events of which the remaining balan￿ on the fund is £53,747.

d. Fundraising Policy
Matthew Good Foundation raises funds in a number of differerbt ways.
Matthew GLN)d Foundation receives the majofrty of ts funding from the John Good Gioup. The John Good
Group makes an annual donalN)n lo the Foundation.
Matthew Good Foundation receNes a dwKlend payment from it5 minorrty shale ownership of the John Good
Group.
We encouwJe donors to wn a fund to provide a SIMP￿ alt&malive to establishing an independent Tfusl or
Foundation.
The Foundation does not use a professional fundraisei 01 commercial participalor to raise funds and we do not
directty approach indwidual members of the public, however, donors can donate via our website should they
wish lo. During the year. no complaints have been ￿eNed about our fundraising activities. Our fundraising
practices comply with the Ccde of FUndrai￿r￿j Prxlice.
Grant making policy
The majorrty of our grant making 15 in the UK-, hcV￿ver, we oCCasK)nal￿ grant funds to charilÈs operating
overseas. Unless otherwse Stated, all funding applicat￿n5 are open lo non-profit organisalions. The potential
recipient does not need lo be a registered chanty lo apply for funds. ￿>wever, the organisalion musl have
charitable aims and a structure in pla￿ lo show that it is property run. Appropriate due diligence is always
carried out before any grant is issu8d_
Unless othewse staled in the grants guKJelines for the separate funds we manage, we cannot support
profflolion of purely religK)Us or pdf(ical ￿useS.
For grants of £2,000 and above. we keep in touch wrth recipients lo monrtor progress. Further applications for
funcling will not be accepted unless our findings are satisfactory. Given the nature of the small organiusation we
work with, we try lo keep form filling lo a minimum and prefer lo keep in touch on mole personal basis. Where
grants are paMI perh)dically. the subsequent inslalmerbt of any grant will not be paid unless our ongoing due
diligen￿ is carried out and deemed acceptable. or in some cases. Specif￿ objectives have b￿n mel.

a. Governing document
Matthew Good FOU￿$atIOn is a charilable company limited by guatsnlee. 11 was in￿r￿rated on 24 June 2011
as John Go¢)d Foundation. Folk)wing the death of Matthew Good on 26 June 2011 whilst running for charity, the
loundalion's name was changed to Matthew Gwd Foundation. Matthew Good Foundation was registered as a
charity on 25 August 2011. The charty was established as a company under a Memorandum of Associalk)n
which established the objects aThJ powers of the Charitab￿ company and is governed under ils Articles of
Association. In the event of the chacity beiTh3 wound up rts members a￿ ￿qUired lo contribute an amount not
exceeding £1.
b. Trustèes
The directors of the company are also charty trustees fof the purposes of charity law and under the companls
Articles are known as members of the company. Under the requirements of the Memofandum and Articles of
Association new members of the company musl be approved ty the directors before they can be admitted into
membership.
As set out in the Articles of AssocialKJn there shall not be than three trustee5.
At each annual general meeting one third of the Iruslees shall relire from Of[￿e. If the chanty does not fill the
vacancy the retiring Iruslee shall, rfwilling lo ￿t be deemgj to have been re-appointed.
The Iruslees mel during th8 year ended 31 D￿mber 2021 to supeNise and fom￿1￿ approve the management

The Tru51ee5 consider the Board of Trustees and the ExecLrtive Director as comprising the key management
personnel of the charrty in charge of directing and controlling the charity., and running and operating on a day-lo-
day basis. All Trustees give their lime freety and no Trustee remuneration was partl during the year. Trustees
are required lo disclose all relevant inteiests and register them with the Executive Director and, in accordance
with the charity's policy. withdraw from decisiorbs where a conflict of inlefesl arises. The Board of Trustees has
responsibility for establishing the charity's pay poI￿y, ensuring ils application in practi￿, and reviewing it on an
annijal basis, including pay awards. The Board of Trustees is also responsible lor determining the annual pay
budget. When setting salanes. we balance affordabilrty, inlemal fairness and external compeliliveness by
benchmarking similar roles, while also ensuring we are meeting National Livinglmirbimum w￿e.

Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland, and the Companies Act 2006. The financial
slalemenls have been prepared undeT the hislollcal cost convention.
