TRUSTEES REPORT
The Trustees present their report and financial statements for the period ended 31 July 2023.
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out in note I
to the financial statements and comply with the chariWs governing document, the Charities Act 2011 and
"Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities
preparing their accourit in accordance with the Financial ReFK)rting Standard applicable in the UK and
Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 {effertive l January 20191".
Strurture. Governance and Management
5V2G is governed by a board of 4 trustees equipped with a wide range of skills to strategically oversee the
management of the charity.
The charity has no employees and operates with 28 volunteers and freelance sessional staff which are
engaged LSpon as needed to deliver the chartvs projects and programmes. Overall responsibilities of the
charity are managed by the Trustees and Executtve Board that leads on all activities and financial reporting.

Migration and Development- Sustainable Communities: Climate Action and Peace.
ACTIVITIES
SV2G is a highly dynamic charity. renowned for the high quality, early intetvention and preventative
attivities it delivers to empower and develop hundreds of young people, families and the wider
communities of various diverse backgrounds each year. The organisation has continued to create new
forms of learning though arts and heritage projects with an intergenerational audience. SV2G ha5
continued to build its strong track record in supporting communities through inspired creative
interventions. The charity has continued to show tenacity and vision and has attracted additional funds to
support its development and growth.
SV2G has developed its reputation around seve￿1 flagship programmes, including. School of Steelpan,,
'Wycombe Steel Orchestra, and various African Caribbean History projects. These proErammes, along with
other creative community projects has allowed SV2G to engage positively with young people, increasing
their confidence, skills and aspirations. SV2G not only nurtures the next generation, but also engages with
adults, families and the wider community.
Additionalty, environmental sustainability has been at the
forefront of SV2G's activity with all musical instruments being made from recycled oil drums.
Art5, Health and Wellbeing Programmes & Projerts:
School of Steelpan {SOSI
The School of Steelpan provides steelpan music lessons. work5hop5 and taster sessions for anyone from 7
years up to adults. Opportunities are available to young people to join our performance band. We serve
the diverse and wide communities of BuckinEhamshire with many co113borating ensembles working from
beginners to advanced which includes is not limited to=
Workshops, taster sessions and tuition in schools.
After school clubs and holiday clubs.
One-to-one group and private tuition for beginners. intermediate players and adults.
Accreditation including steelpan graded examination5
N.B. SV26 has been instnimental in
introducing uccreditotionforsteelpon educotion in the UK.
Support for students through graded examinations including BTEC. GCSE. and A Level Music
accreditation.
Professional development for steelpan tutors.
Support for the Steelpan Educatois and Tutors Association

Tuition is currently provided free of charge. All registered mefflbers of SV2G's School of Steelpan are
tutored in playing the steelpan instrument through the use of specialist techniques and by working through
sets of repertoires. Music theory tuition also continues to be on offer online. Once fluent on the
instrument, each member then has an opportunity to jointhe Chariws perfoimance band, Wycombe Steel
Orchestra.
Wycombe Steel Orchestra {WSO)
Wycombe Steel Orchestra is a unique. all percussion. orchestral experience established to nurture and train
young musicians to be inspired players, encouragirbg them to perfomi to their highest abilities within a
professional environment. Based in High Wycombe. the orchestra has a repertoire of wide variety of music
genre5 including calypso, classical and chart music. WSO can perform and run workshops for any occasion
including corporate. charity and private events. Wycombe Steel Orchestra has performed and given
steelpan taster workshops at private & corporate events. The team can tsilor to suit various needs from a
soloist to a 20-ple￿ orchestra. An orchestrd with vision, ambition and excellence. recipients are
guaranteed a unique memorable experience for their event.
The performance band was delighted to have been selected to attend and perform at Buckinghamshire's
Platinum Jubilee Service for H.M Queen Elizabeth11. The band recently performed at the inaugural Garifuna
Conference held at the University of Warwick The young people also participated in the master class
Garifuna drumming session.
The National Association of Steelpan Educators and Tutor5 ISPETA
SPETA is a professional organisation for steelpan educators and tutors, facilttated by SV2G delivering online
sessions. SV2G continues to provide ongoing support and professional development for SPETA members
with CPD training programmes.
Community Connections Project
SV2G continues to deliver a health and wellbeing project that incorporates weekly steelpan work5hop5
funded by the People's Health Trust and the Health Lottery. As part of the programme. there are fegular
focus groups for community needs. The successful delivery of activities will be evaluated to consider
participarits. needs for development.
Community Participatory Action Research
SV2G was selerted to be part of the Community Participatory Action Research ICPARI Training and
Mentoring programme to explore the health inequalities fa￿d by marginalised communities a5 a result of
the Cost-of-Living Crisis. Funded by the NHS Health Education England South East IHEE SEI Schools of Public
Health, in partnership with the Office of Health Improvement and Disparities South East IOHID SEI leads
this programme of training and mentoring with the University of Reading, the Scottish Development
Agency.
The programme supports SV2G working with communities adversely affected by health inequalities to
recruit, train and mentor their workforce in CPAR. The findings of the research will be used to inform key
decisions locally. It will also inform priorities and service development for marginalised communities in the
South-east.

HeritaEe Projects- Documenting, Preserving and Celebrating African and Caribbean History:
SV2G's continues to further develop and encompass more intangible cultural heritage programmes and
projects through the following=
Diaspora Connections
SV2G has expanded their network of diaspora connections with a number of Caribbean diaspora
organisations and individuals to develop initiatives related to home country development, as well as to
encourage more development-oriented migration policies.
As a result of extending SV2G's strategic partnerships. the Charity's sort after views and perspectives for
influence has led to collaborating on several new and exciting initiatives currently being developed.
Windrush Schemes project
SV2G continues to support Nationals. assisting with their Home Office issues. SV2G attended a Windrush
Conference at the Home Office as part of the Phase I project group.
An overview of the social media campaign was produced on this projert. measuring the reach and
engagement. SV2G were commended for the quality short films. reports and social media content for the
Windrush Schemes project.
European Union Oia5pora Development pilot project
SV2G registered to partlCiP3te in the first EU funded project with a global perspective on diaspora
engagement. The aim of the project is to bridBe existing gaps between policy development and research.
to test out concrete modes of engagement and to create a laboratory of innovatrve ideas and policies,
based on needs and priorities. The projert works with a range of partners in the diaspora development
ecosystem to ascertain the needs and challenges in order to support and promote collaboration5.
The Charity was invited to participate and was exposed to opportunities with existing diaspora engagement
projects and organisations. SV2G attended the launch to contribute to recent research findings of long term
thinking for diaspora engagement in the heritage tourism. The results of the research on diaspora youth as
consumers and entrepreneurs were reviewed for future plans on how young people can benefit in an
exchange of the experience of tourisrn sites for socitreconomic growth.
Side-Event UNGA77: Diaspora as Key Partner Across the Humanitarian-Development Peace-Nexus
SV2G attended the event that took place during the High-level week of the 77th Session of the United
Natiorks General Assembly IUNGA77)- Panellists showcased examples of best practices that have led to
effective and sustainable diaspora engagement. The event wa5 also an opportunity for SV2G and other
diaspora representatives to showcase how their talent, skills. networks, and resources make them Lsnique
partners for development reacting and engaging throughout the humanitarian development peace nexus.

George Alexander Gratton
The Charity continues to serve as a legacy for George Alexander Gratton aka The Spotted Boy in partnership
with Marlow Museum. SV2G's Chief Executive Officer continues. at various events, to Share George's story
and di5CU55 the conservation project managed by SV2G.
Revolutionary Vincentians
Revolutionary Vincentians Projert continued to discover our Caribbean heritage and history in partnership
with the University of Warwick. The co-produrtion of research and interpretation of our colonial history
uncovered one of the I" Mass Migration of Caribbean people arriving in Britain in 1797 as prisoners of war.
GarinaEU delegation visit to the UK
A Garifuna delegation visited the UK in August 2022 from Honduras. Beliie. Guatemala, and New York and
was co-hosted by the University of WaNick and SV2G. The delegation visited Chief Joseph Chatoyerfs Ladle
at the West India Committee. Portchester Castle where the Caribbean Prisoners of War were held.
Prisoners included soldiers. their families. and French soldiers. The delegation also attended and
participated in the inaugural UK Garifvna conference led by Professor Kate Astbury at the University of
Warwick. Speakers at the conference included=

St. Wincent's Botanical Garden project
SV2G co-hosted the launch of a pop up exhibition at the Wycombe Museum. The exhibition is part of the
unearthing the contribution of indigerkOUS and enslaved African knowledge system5 to the St Vincent
Botanical Garden projert that is currently being delivered by the University of Winchester. The project
digitised archives to document the contributions made by the indigenous Garinagu people and enslaved
African people's knowledge and physical labour into the successful development of St. Vincent's Botanical
Garden, and western scientific knowledge.
Black History Month ActivttTes and Events
A series of Black History Month community activities and events were held in various locations celebrating
African and Caribbean contributions to society. The Charity held small scale activities for young people.
The Charity participated in the National Hate Crime Week, as a member of the Buckinghamshire Hate Crime
Forum. A recently commissioned 24hr helplirie with Stop Hate UK to report and give support to anyone in

Buckin8hamshire affected by Hate Crime. Charity rnembers are registering to becoming trained as Hate
Crime Ambassadors with Stop Hate UK and SV2G will also become a sigriposting centre.
Buckinghamshire Windrush 75
SV2G's Windrush 75, anniversary programme for June 2023 was funded in partnership with SV2G and
Buckinghamshire New University, The Clare Foundation, the High Wycombe Community Board and the
National Lottery to deliver fitting tributes to BuckinEhamshire Windrush generations and their descendants.
Activities were planned across 2023 with the main focus being Windrush Day, and Black History Month.
Buckinghamshire New University IBNU) MOU
SV2G and BNU agreed a five-year partnership to improve the lives of local ethnic minority communities,
including the African and Caribbean populations. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by BNU
Vice-chancellor, Professor Nick Br3isby, and SV2G Chief Executive Officer, Jacqueline Roberts, and
witnessed by SV2G Honorary Member and Lord-Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire, Countess Elizabeth Howe.
The collaboration aims to facilitate and enhance social and cultural exchènges,- drive research to irnprove
the experiences of African Caribbean comrnunitie5 in Buckinghamshire- and provide local and international
skills development. Each organisation will also support each other in improving race equality in
Buckinghamshire and beyond.

The Charity operates on a break-even basis. Total income for the period amounted to £48.868 and total
expenditure for the year amounted to £43.101. N.B. the surplus shown in 202112022 of 3.013 relates to
grant funding ring fen￿d for project delivery carried through to this next financial year.
SV2G's activities are continually funded through donations and grant income. we'd sincerely like to thank
the above listed for their financial 5UPPOrt. A very srnall amount of revenue is derived from commercial
activity which includes hires and merchandise.
The main area of expenditure is professional fees linked to grant-funded delivery of projert activities.
Other key costs all relate to storage of musical equipment. exhibition equipment and rental of teaching
premises. In the absence of funding for any level of staffin& SV2G relies hugely on the goodwill and hard
work of its volunteers and Trustees.

Risk & Un￿rtaintIeS
The Trustees are satlsfied, having assessed the major risks to which the organisation is exposed. that the
Charity has systems and procedures in place to mitigate any such exposure.
Despite the challenges of the pandemic. the Char¢ty has returned to its regular activities to deliver public
benefit. SV2G ha5 been able to expand its activities. reach and impact delivering health, well-being and
racial justice projects through the arts and heritage.
On behalf of the Trustees, we would like to thank all of our volunteers. grant providers, sponsors. and
supporters in making this year another success. Without this wdluable contribution of time, energy and
expertise, we would not have been able to achieve so much.
