programmes, funding and partiC4pants are in the eaty years (Ghildfen aged 0-5) bracket

EARLY YEARS PROJECTS
CreatlV8 Futures is an established sector lea(ler in earfy years music and arts delivery. Our
carefulty structur8d pr(wJrammes, (rften a resear(* ebement, provide inspiring and
developmentally benefiaal music, movement, stOry4elling, and art activities to children in
some of thè most deprived parts of London and beyond.
'Building Strong Communty Families. Wan a new phase in April 2022 following
the conclusion of the 4-year funding which our partner Pwjd￿gton Development
Trust IPDTI vrds avmrded tr￿Tr Tho Natlonal Lottory Community Fund.
Subsequently, Creatsve Futures received lunding from the Clty of Westminster'g
Communlty Prloritlo• Prografflrno and the P￿t¢Od0 Socloty Trust to continue
the project. particularly the addition of 2 new 'Nurture Group, sessions each week
for vulnerable famili8s referred to the wcyed by partiapating Family Centres and
their partners. These Nurture Groups have been highly su￿Ssful in supporting
families, building their c#￿ftlence to then join one of our other 5 music drop-in
86ssions every week. Community Families supp)rts 450+ families every year in
northwest Westminster. one of the most deprivèd areas in London. provSding fvn,
eative and stimulating activities for parents and children, infonnation and support
from PDT'S Maternity Champions, and thus reduc4ng isolation, tK)Istering wellbelng,
and supporting aspects of eaty childhood development. Further funding was
awarded for the prc¥e¢t in 2023 by Th¢ W•¥tmln¥ter Foundatlon and the Young
W••tmln•tsr Foundatlon's Brtghtsr Futur• Fund.
'London Rhymes, is dellvered in part￿rshIp vath Ro8le Adediran, its music leader
and initiator. During 2022-23 we received no grant funding, but instead were
fvnded by the East London Foundalion NHS Trust to delrver 30 London Rhyrnes
sessions with mothers and babies al Homerton Hospital's perinatal outpatient unit.
We We￿ also fundèd by The Magpie Proièrt a ¢haTTty in Newham supporting
homeless mothers and their children, to continue d81iv8ring the WO18Ct with them.
London Rhymes is delivered by pairs of musioans vtho lead singing and song-
writing activities with famili8S With children aged 04 years. creating new songs
together al)oul the joys and challenges of parenting. A constant stream of n8W
songs is c*eated through the projects. reccKded by musicians, and released on
Soundcloud and Spotify. Many have aL80 b8en animated and appear on YouTube
- some V￿th over 200.000 views - extefNJing the reach of these beautifully crafted
and visually enticing songs to families vkno have not been a part of the projects.
'Sound Communities, and 'Sound Communth'es *' concluded their fiTSt phase.

this earfy years workforce developmenl programm8 to prornote an understanding
of how music can support children's communication 5ki115 reached 137 Early Years
Professionals from 88 diffe￿nI settings in London. East Sussex, Bedfordshire and
Essex. The programme ss delivered through a combination of F¢ofèssional
development sessions (in local groups) and in-setting workshops co4elivered by
our music leaders and participats'ng teachers. Each group has an ethos of reflection
and practice sharing. wth ijiscussion about kne praclicalrties of implementing music
activities in their settings. A comprehensive [￿lIne toolkit for the F￿018Ct, crealed in
Illaboration The Communications Trust (part of ICNb4), was launched in
January 2020 and wntinues to supwt teachers. A new &year phase of the

Pathway, to support mothers with mental health conditions through the specialist
support given al Music at Heat to our Nurtur8 Groups, and on the open-aG¢es$
dropin sessions.
'Sound & Syrnt￿l,, a (x)Ilaboration *ilh two departments at the UCL Instttute of
Educatlon to explore the impact of specfft muslc advlties on chlldren's
ojmmunication and Lqnguage development and engagement with tooks,
nduded in the summer 2022. It was funded by the Garfleld Wèston Foundatlon
and Natlonal Foundatlon for Youth Musle and th8 Monday Charltablè Trust Iwa
UCL). Sound & SyTnbd was delivered in partnership the London Eaty Years
Foundation (LEYF) four of whose settings in Barking and Dagenham look part. A
detsiled report ouuining the significant impads and findings of the pilot project is
aV8Iable on our website. and a furKling bKI to deliver a largef-scale prol6ct has
been submitted by UCL.
Sound Connections 'Lon¢Jon E8rty Years Music Network.: our Creative Producer
and e8rty years music specialist Vanesga St8ns811 continuas to provide guest
curatorshlp of this network.
Other Certtres.. We dellver weekty musSc and movement sessions at Ann Tayler
Children's Centre in Hackney, especially fccussed on engaging 'hard to reach,

PROJECTS WITH CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS
CreatNe Futures is pleased to have continued to work with deaf and h8aring impaired
children during the year.
'Sounding Out., ow fiagshtp music Frogramme for deaf children, has continued in
two primary sthwls with specialist deaf units: Selwyn Prirnary School (Newham)
and Laycock Primary School {Islinglon), wilh funding from The Foyle Foundatlon
and Inv05t•c Corporate Su51alnability. Weekly music sessions with small groups
of pupils aged 4-9 years focus on Singing. vcKslisation, playing instruments,
impmvisation and ¢omp*)srtion. A free online Tcolkit on our website supports
teachers of the deaf. The lead musicians were joined by two trainee music leaders

'My Sound Stories, _ CreatNe Futures. first App - was launched in autumn 2022
and has been d<XvnIoad￿ around 1.000 tlmes so far. My Sound Stories is an
interactive music, speeth and langua9e digital resource which aims to support
yourKJ children's speech. language and communication development. especially
Ihose vtho are deaf or hearing impaired, or have Speech Language and
Communicatson Needs. The app is spear￿llY designed to enable a child,
collaborats'ng with a parent or t8acher, to creats a personalised story combining
different illustrations. scwnds. music and voices to bring their story to lrfe. It is
aimed at children between the ages of 2 and 8 years old. and is the brainchild of
musi¢ian and Speech L8rwJuage Therapist Phoebe OstKme {one of our artis18

Que8n's Park (where our office is kKate(l) in partnership with A2Dominion (who
own the building), with funding from John Lyon'• Charlty and Quoen'$ Park
Communlty Councll. These projects were attended by local children aged 5
years and Included music and art activitses using recyded objects to create
InstallaUons.

schools. The prqect aimed to re-ignite arts provision following the government's

many schools. curriculum planning. The Project involved spoken y￿rd, drama, art
and music in order to engage children in a range of creattve arts activity to
